AND THE LORD DID EXACTLY AS HE SAID

SERMON TITLE: AND THE LORD DID EXACTLY AS HE SAID

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Genesis 21:1-2
Supporting Texts: Numbers 23:19, Isaiah 55:11, Luke 1:37

INTRODUCTION:
God is a God of His Word. Whatever He says, He has the power and authority to bring it to pass. In Genesis 21:1-2, we see the fulfilment of God’s promise to Sarah: "The Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had spoken." After years of waiting, Sarah bore Isaac, just as the Lord had promised. When God speaks, His words are not empty; they carry the power to fulfil themselves. God’s timing may not always align with our expectations, but His promises will always be fulfilled. Today, we will explore the faithfulness of God in doing exactly what He says.

1. GOD'S WORD IS CERTAIN

a) God is not a man that He should lie (Numbers 23:19).

b) His promises are sure and steadfast.

c) His Word does not return void (Isaiah 55:11).

d) No situation or obstacle can hinder God from fulfilling His promises.

e) Biblical Example: Sarah and Abraham waited for years, but God fulfilled His promise by giving them Isaac in their old age (Genesis 21:1-2).

2. GOD'S TIMING IS PERFECT

a) God’s promises are fulfilled at the right time (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

b) Delays are not denials—God works according to His perfect timing.

c) Waiting on God is an act of faith, trusting that His timing is best.

d) Impatience can lead to mistakes (e.g., Sarah and Hagar), but God’s plan prevails.

e) Biblical Example: The birth of Isaac came after many years of waiting, showing that God’s timing is perfect (Genesis 21:1-2).

3. GOD'S PROMISES REQUIRE FAITH

a) Faith is the key to receiving God’s promises (Hebrews 11:11).

b) Even when circumstances seem impossible, faith believes that God is able.

c) Abraham believed in hope against hope and received the promise of Isaac (Romans 4:18-21).

d) We must trust God’s Word, even when we don’t see immediate results.

e) Biblical Example: Abraham and Sarah's faith, despite their old age, was rewarded with the birth of Isaac (Genesis 21:5-7).

4. GOD'S FAITHFULNESS IS UNQUESTIONABLE

a) God is faithful to every promise He makes.

b) He watches over His Word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12).

c) Our circumstances do not change God's faithfulness.

d) He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

e) Biblical Example: God’s faithfulness to Sarah and Abraham stands as a testament to His reliability (Genesis 21:1-2).

5. GOD'S PROMISES CARRY TESTIMONY

a) When God fulfils His promises, it leads to testimonies that glorify Him.

b) Isaac’s birth was a testimony to the entire world of God’s faithfulness.

c) Your fulfilled promise will bring glory to God and be a testimony of His power.

d) Testimonies of fulfilled promises encourage others to trust God.

e) Biblical Example: Sarah’s joy and laughter were a testimony to others about the faithfulness of God (Genesis 21:6-7).

CONCLUSION:
When God says something, He means it, and He will surely bring it to pass. Sarah’s story reminds us that no matter how long it takes, God’s Word is sure. His promises are trustworthy, and His timing is perfect. You may be in a season of waiting, but know that God has not forgotten you. Hold on to His promises, because just as He did for Sarah, the Lord will do exactly as He said. His Word will come to pass in your life, and you will have a testimony of His faithfulness.
