Description: God has the power to silence every devourer and preserve the blessings of His children.
INTRODUCTION:
There are forces described in Scripture as devourers—agents that waste resources, frustrate efforts, and swallow harvests. These devourers manifest in diverse ways: sickness that consumes finances, spiritual attacks that bring setbacks, unending struggles that swallow progress, and unexplainable losses that drain joy. But God is not only a Provider; He is also the One who protects His children from these destructive forces.
In Malachi 3:11, God promises to rebuke the devourer for His people. This means the battle against devourers is not ours to fight; it is God Himself who rises to silence them. When God shuts the mouth of devourers, no power can consume what He has blessed us with. He secures our harvest, protects our increase, and ensures our labour is not wasted.
This teaching will help us understand how God shuts the mouth of devourers, how to walk in His covenant protection, and how to enjoy lasting fruitfulness in Christ.
1. GOD REBUKES THE DEVOURER FOR OUR SAKE
God personally takes responsibility for silencing the devourer when we walk in obedience to Him.
a) The authority of God over devourers – Psalm 24:1
God owns the earth and everything in it; no devourer can override His power.
b) God’s rebuke silences destruction – Isaiah 17:13
When He speaks, the enemy loses strength and flees.
c) Covenant obedience triggers divine rebuke – Malachi 3:10-11
Through faithful giving, we place ourselves under God’s covenant of preservation.
d) God’s word is final over the devourer – Psalm 106:9
Just as He rebuked the Red Sea, He silences every force that seeks to waste His people.
Biblical Example: In Exodus 10:12-20, God rebuked the locusts that devoured Egypt, but Israel was preserved because of His covering.
2. GOD RESTORES WHAT THE DEVOURER HAS STOLEN
Even when the devourer has caused damage, God has the power to restore fully.
a) God restores lost years – Joel 2:25
No time, opportunity, or blessing lost is beyond His ability to recover.
b) Restoration brings abundance and joy – Joel 2:26
God ensures that satisfaction replaces loss.
c) No loss is permanent with God – Job 42:10
He turns captivity into double blessings.
d) Restoration testifies of God’s faithfulness – Psalm 126:1-2
When God restores, it becomes a testimony to all.
Biblical Example: Job lost everything to devourers, but God restored him with twice as much as he had before (Job 42:12).
3. GOD PROTECTS OUR HARVEST AND INCREASE
The protection of God ensures that the fruits of our labour are not wasted.
a) The Lord is our Shepherd – Psalm 23:1
His provision comes with divine preservation.
b) Without His covering, labour is wasted – Haggai 1:6
Without God, one gathers little no matter how much effort is invested.
c) God preserves our lives and blessings – Psalm 121:7
He protects us from evil that devours destiny.
d) God establishes lasting fruitfulness – John 15:16
What He gives remains preserved by His power.
Biblical Example: In Genesis 26:12-14, Isaac sowed in famine, but God preserved his harvest and multiplied him until he became very great.
4. GOD DESTROYS THE INFLUENCE OF DEVOURERS COMPLETELY
God does not only silence devourers temporarily, He brings their power to an end.
a) The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy – John 10:10a
Devourers are satanic agents of waste.
b) Christ came to give abundant life – John 10:10b
Devourers cannot thrive in the presence of divine abundance.
c) The blood of Jesus gives victory – Revelation 12:11
Through the blood, we overcome every devourer’s influence.
d) Victory over devourers is permanent in Christ – Romans 8:37
We are more than conquerors over every force of waste and destruction.
Biblical Example: In Daniel 6:22, God shut the mouth of the lions, proving His power to silence devourers completely.
CONCLUSION:
The devourer is a thief, a destroyer, and a waster of blessings. But the good news is that God has committed Himself to rebuke them for our sake. He restores what is lost, protects our harvests, and destroys their influence completely.
Therefore, we must trust Him, obey His covenant instructions, and walk in the assurance that devourers have no power over our lives. From today, the mouth of every devourer against your destiny shall be shut forever in Jesus’ name.
