Description: God has power to destroy every evil altar raised against your life, family, or destiny, and to establish His altar of righteousness.
INTRODUCTION:
Throughout Scripture, altars represent a place of spiritual exchange, covenant, and power. An altar can either be dedicated to God or raised in honour of idols and demonic powers. Evil altars empower curses, bondages, and spiritual oppression, but the Almighty God is greater than them all.
The Bible shows that God is not passive about evil altars. He commands His people to tear them down, break their hold, and replace them with altars of worship to Him. Gideon, Elijah, and Josiah were instruments God used to overthrow evil altars and establish His presence among His people.
Today, evil altars may not always be physical shrines; they can also be invisible—ancestral covenants, satanic patterns, occult practices, or even sinful lifestyles that empower the enemy. But we serve a God who destroys evil altars and sets His children free to worship Him in spirit and in truth.
1. GOD COMMANDS THE DESTRUCTION OF EVIL ALTARS
Evil altars are not to be tolerated but destroyed because they oppose God’s authority in our lives.
a) God’s jealousy for worship (Exodus 34:13)
God is a jealous God and will not share His glory with idols. He commands His people to destroy altars of strange gods.
b) Altars represent covenants (Deuteronomy 7:5)
Evil altars are places where satanic agreements are enacted. Destroying them breaks the covenant power behind them.
c) Disobedience empowers evil (Judges 2:2-3)
When Israel failed to destroy pagan altars, they became snares that led to oppression. Failure to obey God keeps evil altars active.
d) God’s word is final (Isaiah 14:27)
When God commands the destruction of evil altars, no power can resist His decree. His command brings total victory.
Biblical Example: Gideon was commanded by God to pull down his father’s altar to Baal and replace it with an altar to the Lord (Judges 6:25-32).
2. GOD DEMONSTRATES HIS POWER OVER EVIL ALTARS
God does not only command their destruction; He demonstrates His power by proving that no evil altar can withstand Him.
a) Fire of God proves His supremacy (1 Kings 18:38)
At Mount Carmel, God answered Elijah by fire, proving that the altar of the Lord is greater than Baal’s.
b) God’s presence nullifies evil (Psalm 97:5)
Mountains melt before Him; no altar can stand when God shows up in His power and glory.
c) Jesus disarmed principalities (Colossians 2:15)
At the cross, Christ triumphed over evil powers, destroying their altars of accusation.
d) Signs and wonders follow God’s altar (Mark 16:17-18)
Miracles, deliverance, and healing are proofs that God’s altar is alive and powerful.
Biblical Example: Elijah confronted and destroyed the prophets of Baal, proving God’s supremacy at Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:30-39).
3. GOD DELIVERS HIS PEOPLE FROM THE POWER OF EVIL ALTARS
When evil altars are destroyed, God’s people experience liberty, restoration, and dominion.
a) Deliverance from generational bondage (Exodus 20:5-6)
Evil altars often perpetuate generational curses, but God delivers His people through His covenant of mercy.
b) Restoration of God’s covenant (Jeremiah 31:33)
Destroying evil altars restores the covenant relationship between God and His people.
c) Freedom from demonic oppression (Luke 13:16)
Those bound by Satan through evil covenants are loosed when the altar is destroyed.
d) Establishment of a new beginning (2 Corinthians 5:17)
In Christ, all old things—including evil altars—are destroyed, and a new life begins.
Biblical Example: King Josiah destroyed the altars of idols in Judah, leading the nation back to God (2 Kings 23:24).
4. GOD ESTABLISHES HIS OWN ALTAR OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
God does not just destroy evil altars; He establishes His altar where His presence dwells and blessings flow.
a) God’s altar brings His presence (Exodus 20:24)
Wherever His altar is raised, God promises to meet His people and bless them.
b) God’s altar is built by obedience (Genesis 12:7-8)
Abraham built altars in obedience, and each altar marked God’s covenant promises.
c) The altar of Christ is supreme (Hebrews 13:10)
The cross is the ultimate altar where Christ gave Himself for our eternal redemption.
d) The altar of prayer sustains victory (Acts 16:25-26)
Building a lifestyle of prayer establishes God’s altar in our lives, shaking evil foundations.
Biblical Example: Abraham consistently built altars unto God wherever he went, and God established His covenant with him (Genesis 12:7-8).
