Description: God has the power to reverse situations, elevate the overlooked, and promote those considered last.
INTRODUCTION:
Life often presents situations where the humble, the overlooked, or the last in line feel forgotten or undervalued. Yet, the Bible teaches that God’s ways are not like man’s ways. He delights in reversing human expectations and promoting those whom the world has despised.
The principle of God making the last first is rooted in His justice and mercy. It assures the believer that no matter how long they have waited or how unfair life may seem, God is aware and ready to act. His timing is perfect, and His promotion is irreversible.
This message explores how God elevates the last, what attitudes invite His favour, and how to position oneself to receive His divine reversal.
1. GOD SEES THE VALUE IN THE LAST
God does not overlook anyone; He sees potential where others see none.
a) Divine perspective over human ranking – 1 Samuel 16:7
God looks at the heart, not the outward appearance.
b) Humility attracts God’s attention – James 4:10
Those who humble themselves are positioned for exaltation.
c) Faithfulness in small things matters – Luke 16:10
God promotes the faithful regardless of their current status.
d) God’s timing is perfect – Ecclesiastes 3:1
No one is too late for God’s intervention.
Biblical Example: David, the youngest son of Jesse, was overlooked by his family but chosen by God to be king of Israel (1 Samuel 16:1–13).
2. GOD REVERSES EXPECTATIONS
God delights in reversing human circumstances to display His glory.
a) The last shall be first – Mark 10:31
God changes the narrative for those who trust Him.
b) He humbles the proud – Luke 1:52
The elevation of the humble is part of God’s plan.
c) Divine reversal restores justice – Psalm 75:6–7
Promotion comes not by might but by the Lord’s decision.
d) God’s ways bring astonishment – Matthew 19:30
People are often surprised by God’s reversal.
Biblical Example: Joseph was sold as a slave and forgotten in prison but became second in command over Egypt (Genesis 41:39–41).
3. GOD PROMOTES THE FAITHFUL
Promotion comes to those who remain steadfast despite challenges.
a) Perseverance is key – Galatians 6:9
Faithful endurance results in divine reward.
b) Obedience invites elevation – 1 Kings 2:19
God rewards those who serve Him consistently.
c) God blesses the diligent – Proverbs 22:29
Skill and diligence in small tasks bring greater responsibilities.
d) Trusting God ensures security in promotion – Philippians 1:6
God who began a good work will complete it in your life.
Biblical Example: Esther, a humble Jewish girl, was promoted to queen and used by God to save her people (Esther 2:17–20).
4. GOD’S PROMOTION IS IRREVERSIBLE
Once God elevates someone, no force can undo it.
a) God establishes and preserves promotion – Psalm 75:7
It is God who lifts and sets in place.
b) Divine elevation silences opposition – Daniel 6:27
God’s favour protects the promoted from their enemies.
c) His promotion brings lasting fruit – Psalm 115:15–16
Those He lifts are set for blessing and influence.
d) Trust in God overcomes fear of delay – Isaiah 60:22
No one is too late for God’s appointed time.
Biblical Example: Mary, a humble maiden, became the mother of Jesus, the Messiah, fulfilling God’s plan of promotion and honour (Luke 1:26–28).
CONCLUSION:
God’s principle of making the last first assures every believer that position and circumstance do not limit divine favour. Those overlooked today will rise in His perfect timing.
Faithfulness, humility, and trust in God position you for promotion. Receive His reversal in your life today, and walk boldly knowing that the last shall indeed become first in Jesus’ name.
