INTRODUCTION:
One of the most painful experiences in life is to be despised — underestimated, looked down upon, or dismissed as unimportant. Yet, in the kingdom of God, being despised is often a stage in the making of great men and women. God’s anointing doesn’t need human approval to be valid.
When you are anointed, you carry divine enablement, divine backing, and divine purpose. People may despise your background, your appearance, or your methods, but they cannot cancel the oil of God upon your life. In fact, the despising often becomes the very platform for God to display His power through you.
This message will help you embrace your divine anointing, rise above human rejection, and walk with confidence knowing that no despising can stop your destiny.
1. UNDERSTANDING WHAT IT MEANS TO BE ANOINTED
a) The anointing is divine empowerment (Isaiah 61:1)
It equips you to fulfill your God-given assignment.
b) The anointing is God’s endorsement (Psalm 23:5)
When God anoints you, He sets you apart and validates you.
c) The anointing comes with divine backing (Luke 4:18)
The Spirit of the Lord works through you to accomplish supernatural results.
d) The anointing attracts opposition (Acts 4:13)
The oil on your life will make you a target, but it also guarantees victory.
Biblical Example: David — anointed in the presence of his family, yet still sent back to the sheepfold.
2. WHY THE ANOINTED ARE OFTEN DESPISED
a) People focus on your present state (1 Samuel 16:11)
They cannot see the future God has prepared for you.
b) Your background seems unqualified (Mark 6:3-4)
Jesus was despised in His hometown because they saw Him only as the carpenter’s son.
c) The anointing challenges the status quo (John 9:34)
Religious systems often resist those who carry fresh oil.
d) The enemy fears your potential (1 Samuel 18:8-9)
Saul despised David because he saw the rise of a future king.
Biblical Example: Joseph — despised and sold by his brothers, yet destined to save nations.
3. HOW TO WALK WHEN YOU ARE DESPISED BUT ANOINTED
a) Focus on your assignment, not your critics (Nehemiah 6:3)
Do not waste energy trying to prove yourself; let your work speak.
b) Stay faithful in your current place (Luke 16:10)
David returned to tending sheep after being anointed; faithfulness precedes promotion.
c) Rely on God’s validation (Galatians 1:10)
When God approves you, man’s disapproval becomes irrelevant.
d) Let the oil work for you (Zechariah 4:6)
It’s not by might or power but by the Spirit of the Lord.
Biblical Example: Gideon — despised as the least in his family, yet anointed to deliver Israel.
CONCLUSION:
Despising does not disqualify you; it is often proof that you carry something significant. The enemy will not fight what does not threaten him. The oil on your head speaks louder than the opinions of men.
Your focus should be to nurture the anointing, obey the God who anointed you, and step boldly into your assignment. When the time comes, the same people who despised you will witness your elevation and acknowledge God’s hand upon you.
