WALKING IN DIVINE LOVE

INTRODUCTION
The Christian faith is founded upon God's love. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son” (John 3:16). God's love is not theoretical; it was demonstrated through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Having received this love, believers are called to become channels through which that same love reaches others.
First Corinthians 13:4-8 gives us a practical description of divine love. Paul does not define love merely by feelings but by conduct. Divine love is patient, kind, humble, selfless, forgiving, truthful, protective, hopeful, and enduring. It changes how we respond when people disappoint us and how we behave when circumstances become difficult.
Walking in divine love is therefore a daily decision to allow the character of Christ to control our behaviour. It means choosing love when anger is easier, forgiveness when bitterness is tempting, humility when pride is attractive, and kindness when others are unkind. When believers walk in divine love, the world sees a practical demonstration of the Gospel.
1. DIVINE LOVE COMES FROM GOD
We cannot consistently demonstrate God's love through human strength alone.
a) God Is Love (1 John 4:8)
Love is an essential revelation of God's nature.
b) God Demonstrated His Love (Romans 5:8)
God proved His love by sending Christ to die for sinners.
c) God's Love Is Poured Into Our Hearts (Romans 5:5)
The Holy Spirit enables believers to experience and express divine love.
d) We Love Because God First Loved Us (1 John 4:19)
Our love is a response to the love we have received from God.
Biblical Example: Jesus demonstrated God's love by willingly giving His life for humanity (John 10:17-18).
2. WALKING IN LOVE REQUIRES PATIENCE
Divine love is revealed in how we treat difficult people.
a) Love Suffers Long (1 Corinthians 13:4)
Love does not quickly abandon people because of their weaknesses.
b) Love Is Slow To Anger (James 1:19)
It chooses restraint instead of impulsive reactions.
c) Love Allows People To Grow (Ephesians 4:2)
People require patience as they mature.
d) Love Reflects God's Patience (2 Peter 3:9)
God's patience towards us should influence our treatment of others.
Biblical Example: Jesus patiently endured the repeated failures and misunderstandings of His disciples (Luke 22:24-27).
3. WALKING IN LOVE MEANS BEING KIND
Divine love becomes visible through practical goodness.
a) Love Is Kind (1 Corinthians 13:4)
Kindness is one of the clearest expressions of love.
b) Love Does Good (Galatians 6:10)
We should actively look for opportunities to bless others.
c) Love Shows Compassion (Ephesians 4:32)
Love responds to human weakness with mercy.
d) Love Speaks Gracefully (Proverbs 16:24)
Words can either wound or heal.
Biblical Example: The Good Samaritan demonstrated genuine love through practical compassion (Luke 10:30-37).
4. WALKING IN LOVE REQUIRES HUMILITY
Divine love does not compete for superiority.
a) Love Does Not Envy (1 Corinthians 13:4)
It celebrates rather than resents another person's blessing.
b) Love Does Not Boast (1 Corinthians 13:4)
It does not constantly advertise its achievements.
c) Love Is Not Puffed Up (1 Corinthians 13:4)
It rejects arrogance and self-importance.
d) Love Esteems Others (Philippians 2:3)
It recognises the value of others.
Biblical Example: Jonathan supported David despite knowing that David would eventually become king (1 Samuel 20:12-17).
5. WALKING IN LOVE MEANS LIVING SELFLESSLY
Divine love places the welfare of others above selfish interests.
a) Love Does Not Seek Its Own (1 Corinthians 13:5)
It does not make personal benefit the centre of every relationship.
b) Love Considers Others (Philippians 2:4)
It pays attention to the needs of others.
c) Love Serves (Mark 10:45)
Jesus demonstrated love through sacrificial service.
d) Love Gives (John 3:16)
The nature of divine love is generous.
Biblical Example: Jesus washed His disciples' feet, demonstrating servant-hearted love (John 13:12-17).
6. WALKING IN LOVE MEANS FORGIVING
Love is tested when we are offended.
a) Love Is Not Easily Provoked (1 Corinthians 13:5)
It does not react impulsively when hurt.
b) Love Thinks No Evil (1 Corinthians 13:5)
It does not continually rehearse wrongs.
c) Love Forgives (Colossians 3:13)
We forgive because God has forgiven us.
d) Love Overcomes Evil With Good (Romans 12:21)
Love refuses to allow another person's wrongdoing to determine our behaviour.
Biblical Example: Joseph forgave his brothers after years of betrayal and refused to retaliate (Genesis 50:15-21).
7. WALKING IN LOVE MEANS LOVING TRUTH
Divine love never celebrates sin.
a) Love Does Not Rejoice In Iniquity (1 Corinthians 13:6)
True love does not encourage wrongdoing.
b) Love Rejoices In Truth (1 Corinthians 13:6)
It delights in righteousness and honesty.
c) Love Corrects When Necessary (Proverbs 27:5-6)
Faithful correction can be an expression of love.
d) Love Walks In Truth (3 John 3-4)
Christian love and truth must operate together.
Biblical Example: Nathan confronted David concerning his sin rather than remaining silent (2 Samuel 12:1-13).
8. WALKING IN LOVE MEANS ENDURING
Divine love does not disappear when circumstances become difficult.
a) Love Bears All Things (1 Corinthians 13:7)
It carries burdens without giving up easily.
b) Love Believes All Things (1 Corinthians 13:7)
It does not habitually assume the worst about others.
c) Love Hopes All Things (1 Corinthians 13:7)
It believes that God can bring transformation.
d) Love Endures All Things (1 Corinthians 13:7)
It remains steadfast through trials.
Biblical Example: Paul continued his ministry despite persecution, rejection, imprisonment, and suffering (2 Corinthians 11:23-28).
9. WALKING IN LOVE MAKES US LIKE CHRIST
The ultimate goal of divine love is Christlikeness.
a) Follow God's Example (Ephesians 5:1)
Believers are called to imitate God as beloved children.
b) Walk In Love (Ephesians 5:2)
Love should become our daily manner of life.
c) Love One Another (John 13:34)
Christ commanded His followers to love one another sacrificially.
d) Let Christ Be Seen Through You (Galatians 2:20)
The life of Christ should increasingly become visible through the believer.
Biblical Example: Stephen demonstrated Christlike love by praying for those who were persecuting him (Acts 7:59-60).
10. WALKING IN LOVE PRODUCES LASTING FRUIT
Love has eternal significance.
a) Love Never Fails (1 Corinthians 13:8)
Love remains when many temporary things pass away.
b) Love Is The Bond Of Perfection (Colossians 3:14)
Love brings Christian virtues together in maturity.
c) Love Is Evidence Of Spiritual Life (1 John 3:14)
Our love for believers demonstrates that we have passed from death to life.
d) Love Brings Glory To God (Matthew 5:16)
Christlike conduct can cause others to recognise God's goodness.
CONCLUSION
Walking in divine love is not an occasional spiritual exercise; it is a daily lifestyle. It means allowing God's love to govern our words, attitudes, reactions, relationships, and decisions. It is demonstrated when we remain patient under pressure, kind when others are unkind, humble when we have reasons to boast, forgiving when we have been wounded, truthful when compromise is easier, and faithful when circumstances become difficult.
The world needs to see the reality of Christ through the lives of His people. Therefore, let us not merely preach about divine love but walk in it. Let love govern your home, marriage, ministry, friendships, leadership, and dealings with others. When we walk in divine love, we walk in the character of Christ, and when Christ's character is revealed through us, the Gospel becomes visible to the world.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, thank You for demonstrating Your divine love towards me through Jesus Christ, in Jesus name.
2. Lord, fill my heart continually with Your love and let it overflow to everyone around me, in Jesus name.

7. Father, give me grace to love difficult people and respond to evil with goodness, in Jesus name.
8. Lord, help me to endure difficult seasons without losing my love, faith, hope, or Christian character, in Jesus name.
9. Father, let Your divine love transform my marriage, family, relationships, and ministry, in Jesus name.
10. Lord, make my life a visible expression of the love of Christ so that people will see Jesus through me, in Jesus name.
PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS
1. The love of God shall fill your heart and govern your life.
2. You shall walk in patience and kindness even under pressure.
3. Every root of envy, jealousy, pride, selfishness, and bitterness shall be uprooted from your heart.
4. You shall walk in humility and consistently seek the good of others.
5. You shall receive grace to forgive and refuse to become a prisoner of past offences.
6. You shall love truth and righteousness and reject every form of ungodly compromise.
7. You shall have grace to love difficult people and overcome evil with good.
8. You shall endure trials without losing your love, faith, hope, or spiritual strength.
9. Your home, relationships, and ministry shall become channels of God's divine love.
10. You shall walk in divine love, reflect the character of Christ, bless many lives, and bring glory to God, in Jesus name.
