Description: The cross of Christ removes every barrier between God and humanity and unites believers into one family through the power of salvation.

INTRODUCTION
The message of the cross is the heart of the Christian faith. Paul declared that Christ sent him to preach the Gospel, "not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect." The cross is not merely a symbol of suffering but the place where God's love, justice, mercy, and power were fully revealed. Through the death of Jesus Christ, sinners are reconciled to God and brought into one spiritual family.

The Corinthian church struggled with divisions because many believers focused on human personalities and worldly wisdom rather than the cross. Paul redirected their attention to Christ crucified, reminding them that the cross alone has the power to save, transform, and unite people from every background.

Today, believers come from different tribes, cultures, languages, and social classes, yet the cross removes every dividing wall. As we embrace the message of the cross, we are called to live in unity, humility, forgiveness, and sacrificial love for one another.

1. THE CROSS RECONCILES US TO GOD
The greatest work of the cross is restoring broken humanity into a right relationship with God. Through Christ's sacrifice, sinners receive forgiveness and peace with God.

a) Christ Paid The Price For Sin (Romans 5:8)
Jesus demonstrated God's love by dying for us while we were still sinners, providing complete redemption through His sacrifice.

b) We Are Justified By Faith (Romans 5:1)
Through faith in Christ, believers are declared righteous and enjoy peace with God.

c) We Receive Forgiveness Of Sins (Colossians 1:13-14)
The blood of Jesus cleanses believers from sin and transfers them into God's Kingdom.

d) We Become Children Of God (John 1:12)
Everyone who receives Christ is given the privilege of becoming a member of God's family.

Biblical Example: The repentant thief on the cross believed in Jesus and received the promise of eternal life, demonstrating the saving power of the cross (Luke 23:39-43).

2. THE CROSS UNITES BELIEVERS INTO ONE BODY
The cross destroys every barrier that separates people and creates one united family in Christ. Our identity is found in Jesus rather than in earthly distinctions.

a) Christ Broke Down Every Dividing Wall (Ephesians 2:13-16)
Through His death, Jesus removed the hostility that separated people and established peace.

b) We Are One In Christ (Galatians 3:26-28)
In Christ there is no superiority or inferiority based on race, culture, gender, or social status.

c) We Belong To One Body (1 Corinthians 12:12-13)
Every believer is baptised by one Spirit into one Body with Christ as the Head.

d) We Share One Hope (Ephesians 4:4-6)
Believers are united by one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of all.

Biblical Example: Jews and Gentiles worshipped together in the church at Antioch, demonstrating the unifying power of the Gospel across cultural barriers (Acts 11:19-26).

3. THE CROSS CALLS US TO HUMILITY AND LOVE
The cross reveals Christ's humility and sacrificial love. Every believer is called to imitate His example in relationships with others.

a) Follow Christ's Humility (Philippians 2:5-8)
Jesus humbled Himself even unto death on the cross, providing the perfect example of servant leadership.

b) Love One Another Sacrificially (John 13:34-35)
The love demonstrated at the cross should inspire believers to love one another selflessly.

c) Forgive As Christ Forgave You (Ephesians 4:32)
Because Christ has forgiven us, we must willingly forgive those who offend us.

d) Serve Others With Joy (Galatians 5:13)
Christian freedom should be expressed through loving service rather than selfish ambition.

Biblical Example: Stephen reflected the spirit of Christ by praying for those who were stoning him, demonstrating the transforming power of the cross (Acts 7:54-60).

4. PROCLAIM THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS
The Gospel of the cross remains God's power to save and transform lives. Every believer has the responsibility of sharing this life-changing message.

a) Preach Christ Crucified (1 Corinthians 1:23)
The central message of the Church must always be Jesus Christ and His saving work on the cross.

b) Depend On God's Power (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)
The effectiveness of the Gospel comes through the power of the Holy Spirit rather than human wisdom.

c) Live As A Witness Of The Cross (Matthew 5:16)
Our conduct should reflect the transforming power of Christ's sacrifice.

d) Call Others To Reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18-20)
Believers have been entrusted with the ministry of reconciliation, inviting people to be reconciled to God.

Biblical Example: Philip faithfully preached Christ in Samaria, and many people believed the Gospel, bringing unity, healing, and great joy to the city (Acts 8:5-8).

CONCLUSION
The cross of Jesus Christ is the foundation of our salvation and our unity. Through His sacrifice, we have been reconciled to God and brought together into one spiritual family. Every barrier of sin, hostility, and separation has been broken through the power of Christ's death and resurrection.

Let us therefore keep the cross at the centre of our faith, reject every form of division, and walk in humility, love, and forgiveness. As we proclaim the message of the cross and live according to its transforming power, God will use us to strengthen His Church and draw many people into His Kingdom.
