THE FIRSTFRUITS OF THE RESURRECTION

INTRODUCTION
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the central event of the Christian faith. Without the resurrection, the Gospel would have no victorious conclusion, Christian faith would be empty, and the hope of eternal life would collapse. But Paul declares with triumphant confidence, “But now is Christ risen from the dead.” The resurrection is a settled reality and the foundation of the believer's hope.
Paul describes Christ as “the firstfruits of them that slept.” In the Old Testament, firstfruits were the first portion of a harvest presented to God, carrying the expectation that more of the same harvest would follow. In the same way, Christ's resurrection is the first and decisive resurrection in the coming resurrection harvest. His victory over death guarantees the future resurrection of those who belong to Him.
This truth gives believers confidence in the face of death, suffering, and uncertainty. We do not follow a dead Saviour; we serve a risen Lord. Because Christ has conquered the grave, those who are united with Him have the assurance that death will not have the final word. The resurrection gives us hope today and a glorious expectation for eternity.
1. CHRIST IS RISEN FROM THE DEAD
The foundation of resurrection hope is the resurrection of Jesus.

Jesus genuinely entered into death before rising again.

His burial confirms the reality of His death.

Jesus has conquered death permanently and lives eternally.
2. CHRIST IS THE FIRSTFRUITS OF THE RESURRECTION
The term “firstfruits” points towards a greater harvest.

The first portion of the harvest was presented to God.

God fulfilled His promises by raising Jesus from the dead.
4. CHRIST'S RESURRECTION GUARANTEES OUR RESURRECTION
The believer's future is connected to Christ's victory.

His resurrection is the guarantee of the coming harvest.

Those who belong to Christ will receive resurrection life.

5. THE RESURRECTION DEFEATS THE POWER OF DEATH
Death is no longer the final authority over believers.

6. THE RESURRECTION GIVES US A LIVING HOPE

7. WE MUST LIVE IN RESURRECTION LIFE
The resurrection is not only a future promise; it transforms our present lives.

Believers should live differently because they have been united with Christ.
b) Set Your Mind On Things Above (Colossians 3:1-2)
Resurrection hope should change our priorities.
c) Put Off The Old Life (Ephesians 4:22-24)
The new life in Christ requires transformation.

Our lives should become instruments of righteousness.
8. RESURRECTION HOPE STRENGTHENS US IN SUFFERING
Believers can endure present difficulties because of future glory.

Our present afflictions cannot compare with eternal glory.

The inner person can be renewed even when circumstances are difficult.

Eternal realities are more important than temporary circumstances.

In Christ, believers are more than conquerors.
9. THE RESURRECTION CALLS US TO FAITHFUL SERVICE
Resurrection hope should produce active Christian living.
a) Be Steadfast (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Believers should remain firmly committed to Christ.
b) Be Unmoveable (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Do not allow difficulties to uproot your faith.
c) Abound In The Work Of The Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58)
The hope of resurrection should motivate faithful service.
d) Remember Your Labour Is Not In Vain (1 Corinthians 15:58)
God will reward faithful service.
10. THE RESURRECTION POINTS TO THE FINAL VICTORY
Christ's resurrection anticipates the complete triumph of God's kingdom.
a) The Dead Shall Be Raised (1 Corinthians 15:52)
The resurrection of believers is certain.
b) The Living Shall Be Changed (1 Corinthians 15:51-52)
Those alive at Christ's coming will experience transformation.
c) Mortality Will Become Immortality (1 Corinthians 15:53)
God will permanently overcome corruption and death.
d) Death Will Be Swallowed Up In Victory (1 Corinthians 15:54)
The final destiny of God's people is eternal victory.
CONCLUSION
Christ being the firstfruits means that His resurrection is both the demonstration and guarantee of what awaits those who belong to Him. He is not simply one person who conquered death; He is the beginning of the resurrection harvest. His resurrection assures us that those who die in Christ will rise again and that God's redemptive purpose will reach its glorious completion.
Therefore, believers should live with confidence rather than fear, hope rather than despair, and faithfulness rather than spiritual laziness. The grave is not the end for those who are in Christ. Christ has risen, Christ lives, and because He lives, those who belong to Him shall also live. Let this hope strengthen your faith, purify your life, motivate your service, and keep your eyes fixed on eternity.
PRAYER POINTS

8. Lord, make me steadfast, unmoveable, and always abounding in Your work, in Jesus name.
9. Father, let the hope of the resurrection comfort and strengthen everyone facing grief, loss, or difficult circumstances, in Jesus name.
10. Lord, keep me faithful to the end and grant me grace to share in the glorious resurrection of those who belong to Christ, in Jesus name.
PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS
1. The resurrection power of Jesus Christ shall operate mightily in your life.
2. You shall walk in the confidence and victory of the risen Christ.
3. Every spirit of hopelessness and despair shall give way to living hope.
4. You shall not be dominated by the fear of death, because your hope is anchored in Christ.
5. You shall walk in newness of life and manifest the character of the risen Christ.
6. Every trial and season of suffering shall produce deeper faith and greater spiritual maturity in you.
7. Your eyes shall remain fixed on eternal realities rather than temporary circumstances.
8. You shall remain steadfast, unmoveable, and fruitful in the work of the Lord.
9. The promise of resurrection shall bring comfort, strength, and hope to you and your household.
10. Because Christ is risen and is the firstfruits of those who sleep, you shall stand in His victory, overcome every power of death, and inherit eternal life with Him, in Jesus name.
