Description: This study reveals that faith in Christ empowers believers to rise above natural limitations and walk in the supernatural.
INTRODUCTION
In Mark 6:45-52, the disciples found themselves in a difficult situation, struggling against contrary winds while crossing the sea. Despite their effort, progress was slow and exhausting. In the midst of this struggle, Jesus came to them walking on the water—an act that defied natural laws.
At first, the disciples were afraid, thinking they had seen a spirit. But Jesus reassured them, saying, “Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.” His presence transformed their fear into amazement, and the storm ceased when He entered the boat.
This passage teaches that what is impossible with man is possible with God. When Jesus is involved, natural limitations are overridden. Faith enables believers to rise above circumstances and experience the supernatural power of God.
1. GOD MEETS US IN THE MIDST OF IMPOSSIBILITY
Even in difficult situations, God comes to us with divine intervention.
a) Challenges do not separate us from God (Mark 6:48)
Jesus saw the disciples struggling and came to them.
b) God is aware of our struggles (Psalm 34:15)
His eyes are upon the righteous, and He hears their cry.
c) Divine help comes at the right time (Isaiah 41:13)
God intervenes when we need Him most.
d) God’s presence changes situations (Exodus 33:14)
His presence brings rest and assurance.
Biblical Example:
God delivering the Israelites at the Red Sea (Exodus 14:13-14) shows how He meets His people in impossible situations.
2. FEAR CAN DISTORT SPIRITUAL PERCEPTION
The disciples initially misunderstood what God was doing.
a) Fear creates confusion (Mark 6:49)
They thought Jesus was a ghost.
b) Fear hinders recognition of God’s work (2 Kings 6:15-17)
Elisha’s servant needed his eyes opened to see divine help.
c) Fear weakens faith (Matthew 14:30)
Fear can cause us to lose focus on God.
d) Fear must be replaced with faith (Isaiah 41:10)
God commands us not to fear because He is with us.
Biblical Example:
The disciples during the storm (Mark 4:40) show how fear can overshadow faith.
3. FAITH RISES ABOVE NATURAL LIMITS
Faith enables believers to experience the supernatural.
a) Faith operates beyond logic (Hebrews 11:1)
It believes in what cannot be seen.
b) Faith focuses on Christ (2 Corinthians 5:7)
Walking by faith requires trusting God over circumstances.
c) Faith releases divine ability (Philippians 4:13)
Through Christ, all things become possible.
d) Faith produces supernatural outcomes (Matthew 14:29)
Peter walked on water when he responded in faith.
Biblical Example:
Peter walking on water (Matthew 14:28-29) shows how faith enables the impossible.
4. JESUS BRINGS CALM AND COMPLETION
When Jesus steps in, storms cease and victory is assured.
a) His presence calms storms (Mark 6:51)
The wind ceased when Jesus entered the boat.
b) His intervention brings peace (John 14:27)
Jesus gives a peace that surpasses understanding.
c) His power completes the journey (Isaiah 43:2)
God ensures that we pass through challenges safely.
d) His works reveal His glory (Mark 6:52)
The disciples were amazed at His power.
Biblical Example:
Jesus calming the storm (Mark 4:39) shows His authority over natural forces.
CONCLUSION
The story of Jesus walking on water reminds us that God is not limited by natural laws. What seems impossible to us is ordinary to Him. When we focus on our circumstances, fear rises; but when we focus on Jesus, faith prevails.
As believers, we are called to walk by faith and not by sight. No matter the challenges we face, we must trust in God’s power to bring us through. With Jesus, we can rise above limitations and walk in the realm of the supernatural.
