THE VICTORY OF THE CROSS

INTRODUCTION
The cross is at the heart of the Christian Gospel. From a human perspective, the crucifixion of Jesus appeared to be a tragic defeat. The Son of God was rejected, beaten, crucified, and buried. Yet what appeared to be defeat was actually God's appointed means of accomplishing the greatest victory in human history.
At the cross, Jesus dealt decisively with the problem of sin. He bore our sins, paid the price of redemption, and opened the way for humanity to be reconciled with God. Colossians 2:15 declares that He disarmed principalities and powers and triumphed over them. The cross therefore represents God's victory over the forces that held humanity in bondage.
Paul's declaration in 1 Corinthians 15:57 points beyond the cross to the resurrection. Christ's death and resurrection cannot be separated. Through His death He dealt with sin, and through His resurrection He conquered death. Therefore, the believer's victory is not based on human strength but on what God has accomplished through Jesus Christ.
1. THE CROSS WAS GOD'S PLAN FOR REDEMPTION
The cross was not an accident; it was part of God's redemptive purpose.
a) Christ Was Foreknown By God (1 Peter 1:18-20)
Jesus' sacrificial mission was established according to God's purpose.
b) Scripture Pointed To His Suffering (Isaiah 53:5)
The prophets foretold the suffering of the Messiah.
c) Jesus Willingly Gave Himself (John 10:18)
Christ willingly laid down His life for humanity.
d) God's Love Was Demonstrated At The Cross (Romans 5:8)
The cross reveals the depth of God's love towards sinners.
2. THE CROSS DEFEATED THE POWER OF SIN
Jesus dealt with humanity's greatest spiritual problem.
a) Christ Bore Our Sins (1 Peter 2:24)
He carried our sins in His body on the cross.
b) His Blood Provides Forgiveness (Ephesians 1:7)
Through Christ we receive redemption and forgiveness.
c) Sin's Dominion Is Broken (Romans 6:14)
Believers no longer have to remain slaves to sin.

Through faith in Christ, we are declared righteous before God.
3. THE CROSS DEFEATED SATAN'S ACCUSATIONS
Christ's work silenced the enemy's accusations against God's people.

Christ dealt with the debt that stood against us.
b) Principalities Were Disarmed (Colossians 2:15)
The powers of darkness were publicly defeated through Christ's triumph.

Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil.
d) Believers Can Resist The Enemy (James 4:7)
Those who submit to God can stand against Satan.
4. THE CROSS BROUGHT RECONCILIATION WITH GOD
Christ restored what sin had broken.
a) We Were Once Enemies (Romans 5:10)
Sin separated humanity from God.
b) Christ Reconciled Us Through His Death (Romans 5:10)
His death opened the way back to God.
c) We Have Peace With God (Romans 5:1)
Justification brings restored fellowship with God.
d) We Become God's Children (John 1:12)
Those who receive Christ are given a new relationship with God.
5. THE CROSS LED TO CHRIST'S RESURRECTION
The cross and resurrection are inseparable.
a) Christ Died For Our Sins (1 Corinthians 15:3)
His death accomplished the work of redemption.
b) He Was Buried (1 Corinthians 15:4)
His burial confirmed the reality of His death.
c) He Rose Again (1 Corinthians 15:4)
The grave could not hold Him.
d) His Resurrection Secures Our Victory (1 Corinthians 15:20-22)
Christ's resurrection guarantees the future resurrection of His people.
6. THE CROSS GIVES US VICTORY OVER DEATH
Christ's victory extends beyond sin to the grave.

Death is not God's final purpose for His creation.
b) Christ Defeated Death (2 Timothy 1:10)
Jesus brought life and immortality through the Gospel.

God gives victory through Jesus Christ.
7. THE CROSS CALLS US TO DIE TO SELF
The victory of Christ should transform our lives.
a) Take Up Your Cross (Luke 9:23)
Following Jesus requires self-denial.
b) Crucify The Flesh (Galatians 5:24)
Believers must reject sinful desires.
c) Live For Christ (Galatians 2:20)
Christ should become the centre of our lives.
d) Put God First (Matthew 6:33)
The believer's priorities must be shaped by God's kingdom.
8. THE CROSS SHOULD PRODUCE GRATITUDE
Paul responds to God's victory with thanksgiving.
a) Give Thanks To God (1 Corinthians 15:57)
Victory is God's gracious gift through Christ.
b) Remember What Christ Has Done (Psalm 103:2)
We should continually remember God's benefits.
c) Praise God For Salvation (Ephesians 1:3)
Redemption should produce continual praise.
d) Live A Thankful Life (Colossians 3:17)
Gratitude should characterise Christian conduct.
9. THE CROSS CALLS US TO HOLINESS
Those redeemed by Christ should live differently.
a) Die To Sin (Romans 6:11)
Sin should no longer control our lives.
b) Live Unto Righteousness (1 Peter 2:24)
Christ's sacrifice calls us to righteous living.
c) Present Your Body To God (Romans 12:1)
Our bodies should become living sacrifices.
d) Pursue Holiness (Hebrews 12:14)
The redeemed life should reflect God's character.
10. THE CROSS GIVES US A VICTORIOUS FUTURE
Christ's victory guarantees the believer's eternal hope.
a) We Are More Than Conquerors (Romans 8:37)
Believers share in Christ's victory.
b) Nothing Can Separate Us From Christ (Romans 8:38-39)
Our relationship with Christ is secure in God's love.
c) We Will Receive Resurrection Life (1 Corinthians 15:52-54)
The believer's future includes a glorious transformation.
d) We Will Reign With Christ (Revelation 22:5)
God's people will share in His eternal kingdom.
CONCLUSION
The cross of Christ is the greatest demonstration of God's saving power and love. What looked like defeat was actually victory. At the cross, Jesus bore our sins, paid our debt, defeated the powers of darkness, and opened the way for reconciliation with God. His resurrection then confirmed His victory over death and guaranteed the future resurrection of His people.
Therefore, believers should never be ashamed of the cross. Let us glory in Christ, live in the freedom He purchased, reject sin, resist the enemy, and serve God faithfully. Our victory does not depend upon our human strength or ability. Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
PRAYER POINTS

7. Father, give me grace to walk in holiness, righteousness, and obedience to Your Word, in Jesus name.
8. Lord, fill my heart with gratitude for the sacrifice of Jesus and the salvation You have given me, in Jesus name.
9. Father, strengthen my faith to overcome every trial, temptation, opposition, and spiritual attack, in Jesus name.
10. Lord, keep me faithful to the cross until the end and let me share fully in Christ's eternal victory, in Jesus name.
PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS
1. The victory of the cross shall be manifested in every area of your life.
2. Every power of sin seeking to dominate you shall be broken through the victory of Christ.
3. Every accusation and condemnation against your life shall be silenced by the finished work of Jesus.
4. Every work of darkness operating against your destiny shall be defeated in the name of Jesus.
5. You shall walk in reconciliation, peace, and fellowship with God.
6. You shall receive grace to overcome temptation and live above the dominion of sin.
7. Your life shall continually testify to the transforming power of the cross.
8. You shall remain grateful for God's saving grace and continually give Him glory.
9. You shall be more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ in every battle of life.
10. You shall remain faithful to Christ, stand firmly in the victory of the cross, overcome until the end, and inherit eternal glory with Him, in Jesus name.
