THE HELP OF GOD

Description

God's help is divine assistance given to man when human strength, wisdom, resources, and connections are insufficient. God's help brings strength to the weak, direction to the confused, deliverance to the oppressed, provision to the needy, and victory to those facing overwhelming circumstances. This sermon examines the importance of God's help, the profit that comes from it, and how believers can position themselves to receive and enjoy divine help.

INTRODUCTION

There are seasons in life when a person discovers that human strength has limitations. There are battles that money cannot solve, problems that connections cannot resolve, situations that education cannot explain, and doors that human effort cannot open. At such moments, we need more than human assistance; we need the help of God. The psalmist declared with confidence, “My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” Our greatest Helper is the Creator Himself.

God's help does not mean that we should become lazy or refuse to take responsibility. Rather, it means recognising that our ability is limited but God's ability is unlimited. We work, but we depend on God for the results. We plan, but we acknowledge Him as the One who directs our steps. We fight the good fight of faith, but we trust Him to give us victory. Divine help brings supernatural strength to human effort.

When God helps a person, what was impossible can become possible. David defeated Goliath because God helped him. Jehoshaphat overcame a vast army because he looked to God for help. Peter survived the storm because Jesus intervened. Therefore, the question is not whether we need help; the question is where our help comes from. Blessed is the person whose help comes from the Lord.

1. UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF GOD'S HELP

God's help is essential because human ability has limitations.

a) Human Strength Is Limited (Psalm 33:16–17)
No matter how strong or influential a person may be, human strength cannot guarantee victory in every situation.

b) God Is Our Present Help (Psalm 46:1)
God is not a distant Helper; He is present and available in times of trouble.

c) God Helps The Helpless (2 Chronicles 14:11)
When Asa recognised his dependence upon God, the Lord gave him victory over a superior army.

d) God's Help Gives Us Access To Grace (Hebrews 4:16)
We can approach God's throne confidently to receive mercy and grace in times of need.

Biblical Example: Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 20:1-22). When Judah faced an army they could not defeat, Jehoshaphat declared, “We have no might against this great company... but our eyes are upon thee.” God responded with supernatural intervention.

2. RECOGNISE THAT GOD IS THE SOURCE OF YOUR HELP

The greatest mistake a believer can make is to look everywhere except to God.

a) Look Up To God (Psalm 121:1–2)
The psalmist deliberately directed his eyes away from the mountains and towards the Lord.

b) Do Not Put Your Ultimate Trust In Man (Psalm 118:8-9)
People can help us, but God must remain our ultimate source.

c) Acknowledge God In Your Life (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Trust Him completely rather than depending exclusively on human understanding.

d) Depend On Christ Daily (John 15:5)
Apart from Christ, our ability to produce lasting spiritual fruit is limited.

Biblical Example: David (1 Samuel 30:6-8). When David was distressed and had lost everything, he did not surrender to despair. He “encouraged himself in the LORD his God” and sought divine direction.

3. UNDERSTAND THE PROFIT OF GOD'S HELP

God's help produces results that human strength alone cannot achieve.

a) God's Help Brings Strength (Isaiah 41:10)
When God helps you, weakness is replaced by divine strength.

b) God's Help Brings Victory (Psalm 44:5+7)
God gives His people victory over challenges that are beyond their natural ability.

c) God's Help Brings Provision (Psalm 23:1)
The Lord is able to provide what His children need according to His will.

d) God's Help Brings Preservation (Psalm 121:7-8)
God watches over His people and preserves them as they walk in His purposes.

Biblical Example: Israel at the Red Sea (Exodus 14:13-31). When Israel was trapped between the sea and Pharaoh's army, God made a way where there appeared to be no way.

4. GOD'S HELP CHANGES IMPOSSIBLE SITUATIONS

When God steps into a situation, limitations are removed.

a) He Makes A Way Where There Is None (Isaiah 43:19)
God specialises in creating new possibilities in impossible situations.

b) He Gives Victory Over Giants (1 Samuel 17:45-47)
David understood that the battle belonged to the Lord.

c) He Turns Mourning Into Joy (Psalm 30:5)
God can change the atmosphere and outcome of a person's life.

d) He Turns Weakness Into Strength (2 Corinthians 12:9)
God's grace is sufficient even when human strength is inadequate.

Biblical Example: David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17:32-50). David's victory was not based on military strength but on confidence in the power and name of the Lord.

5. POSITION YOURSELF FOR GOD'S HELP

Although God is willing to help, believers must learn how to position themselves to receive His help.

a) Ask God For Help (Jeremiah 33:3)
Prayer gives us an avenue to call upon God in our time of need.

b) Trust God Completely (Psalm 37:5)
Commit your way to the Lord and trust Him to act.

c) Walk In Obedience (Deuteronomy 28:1–2)
Obedience aligns our lives with God's instructions and purposes.

d) Wait Patiently For God (Isaiah 40:31)
Waiting upon God renews our strength and enables us to rise above circumstances.

Biblical Example: Hannah (1 Samuel 1:9-20). Hannah poured out her heart before God, trusted Him, and eventually received the answer she had been seeking.

6. BECOME A CHANNEL OF GOD'S HELP TO OTHERS

God does not help us only for ourselves. He also makes us instruments of help to others.

a) Strengthen The Weak (Isaiah 35:3–4)
Use your words and actions to encourage those who are discouraged.

b) Bear One Another's Burdens (Galatians 6:2)
Christian love requires us to stand with people in difficult seasons.

c) Help Those In Need (Proverbs 19:17)
Acts of compassion can become channels through which God's love reaches people.

d) Point People To God (Psalm 34:8)
Your testimony of God's help should encourage others to trust Him.

Biblical Example: Aaron and Hur (Exodus 17:10-13). They supported Moses' hands when he became weary, helping Israel prevail in battle.

CONCLUSION

The help of God is one of the greatest privileges available to the believer. We may not always know what tomorrow holds, but we know who holds tomorrow. When our strength fails, God's strength remains. When human doors close, God can open a better door. When we cannot see a way forward, He can make a way where there seems to be none.

Therefore, never make the mistake of facing life without God. Look to Him, call upon Him, trust Him, obey Him, and wait upon Him. God's help will give you strength when you are weak, direction when you are confused, provision when you are in need, preservation in danger, and victory in battle. When God becomes your Helper, your limitations cannot become the limits of your destiny.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, thank You for being my ever-present help in times of trouble, in Jesus name.

2. Lord, let Your help locate me in every area where I need divine intervention, in Jesus name.

3. Father, strengthen me where my human strength is failing, in Jesus name.

4. Lord, arise and fight every battle that is beyond my ability, in Jesus name.

5. Father, make a way for me where there appears to be no way, in Jesus name.

6. Lord, send me timely helpers and divinely ordained relationships for the fulfilment of Your purpose, in Jesus name.

7. Father, deliver me from depending on human strength more than I depend on You, in Jesus name.

8. Lord, give me wisdom and direction whenever I face difficult decisions, in Jesus name.

9. Father, make me a channel of Your help, encouragement, and blessing to others, in Jesus name.

10. Lord, let Your divine help produce lasting victory, supernatural advancement, and fulfilment of Your purpose in my life, in Jesus name.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS

1. The Lord shall arise and become your Helper in every area of your life.

2. Where your strength ends, the strength of God shall begin to manifest.

3. Every impossible situation before you shall receive divine intervention.

4. The Lord shall send you timely and destiny-fulfilling helpers.

5. Every battle too great for you shall be taken over by the Lord.

6. Doors that human strength could not open shall open by divine help.

7. You shall receive supernatural wisdom for every difficult situation.

8. The Lord shall preserve you and your household from evil.

9. You shall become a testimony of what God can do when He helps a person.

10. From this day forward, the help of God shall speak for you, strengthen you, defend you, provide for you, promote you, preserve you, and lead you into the fulfilment of your divine destiny, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
