Description

God is the refuge and protector of His people. Psalm 91:9-10 gives believers confidence that those who make the Lord their habitation can trust His preserving care. This sermon focuses on committing our homes, families, journeys, possessions, and daily activities to God while walking wisely and confidently under His protective care.

INTRODUCTION

The world is filled with uncertainties. People face dangers at home, on the road, at work, during travel, and in their daily activities. Sometimes the greatest challenge is not only the danger itself but the fear of what might happen. Psalm 91 directs our attention away from fear and towards God. It declares that when the Lord is our habitation, we can rest in His protection and faithfulness.

The psalmist says, “Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation.” Then comes the powerful assurance: “There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.” The promise begins with making God our habitation. God's protection is not an invitation to recklessness; it is a call to trust, obedience, wisdom, and dependence upon Him.

Therefore, the believer can confidently declare, “NO EVIL SHALL BEFALL ME.” This declaration does not mean that Christians are incapable of experiencing hardship or that we should ignore practical safety. Rather, it expresses our confidence in God's preserving power and our commitment to walk under His authority. We trust God with our homes, families, journeys, possessions, and future.

1. MAKE GOD YOUR HABITATION

The foundation of divine protection is a relationship with God.

a) Dwell In The Secret Place (Psalm 91:1)
God's presence should be our permanent dwelling place rather than a place we visit only in times of trouble.

b) Make God Your Refuge (Psalm 91:9)
We must place our ultimate confidence in the Lord.

c) Abide Under His Shadow (Psalm 91:1)
Those who remain close to God enjoy the comfort of His presence.

d) Trust Him Completely (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Complete dependence upon God allows Him to direct our paths.

Biblical Example: David (Psalm 23:1-6). David understood God as his Shepherd, protector, provider, and guide.

2. ESTABLISH YOUR HOME UNDER GOD'S COVERING

Your home should be a place where God's presence is honoured.

a) Build Your House On God (Psalm 127:1)
A home is strongest when it is established upon the Lord.

b) Serve God As A Family (Joshua 24:15)
Joshua deliberately chose to establish his household in the service of God.

c) Fill Your Home With God's Word (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)
The Word of God should be taught and practised within the family.

d) Pray For Your Household (Job 1:5)
Job consistently interceded for his children and family.

Biblical Example: Noah (Genesis 7:1). Noah's household entered the ark according to God's instruction and was preserved through the flood.

3. COVER YOUR FAMILY IN PRAYER

Families need spiritual leadership, prayer, and wise care.

a) Pray For Your Children (1 Samuel 1:27-28)
Hannah dedicated Samuel to the Lord and entrusted his future to God.

b) Pray For Their Protection (Psalm 121:7-8)
God is able to preserve every member of the household.

c) Teach Them God's Ways (Proverbs 22:6)
Spiritual instruction helps children develop a foundation of godliness.

d) Lead By Example (1 Corinthians 11:1)
A parent's life can become a powerful example to the next generation.

Biblical Example: Job (Job 1:1-5). Job combined godly living with consistent intercession for his family.

4. TRUST GOD WITH YOUR JOURNEYS

Every journey should be committed to God.

a) Commit Your Journey To God (Psalm 121:8)
The Lord watches over our going out and coming in.

b) Pray Before Travelling (Psalm 5:3)
Beginning the day with prayer helps us consciously depend upon God.

c) Walk In Wisdom (Proverbs 22:3)
Faith does not cancel responsibility; wise people recognise danger and take appropriate precautions.

d) Trust God's Presence (Isaiah 43:2)
God promises to be with His people through difficult circumstances.

Biblical Example: Abraham's servant (Genesis 24:10-27). He prayed for God's guidance and experienced divine direction throughout his journey.

5. COMMIT YOUR POSSESSIONS TO GOD

Everything we have ultimately belongs to God.

a) Acknowledge God As The Owner (Psalm 24:1)
The earth and everything in it belong to the Lord.

b) Dedicate Your Resources To God (Proverbs 3:9)
Honouring God with our possessions demonstrates our dependence upon Him.

c) Ask God For Wisdom To Manage Them (Deuteronomy 8:18)
God gives us ability to create and manage resources.

d) Trust God For Preservation (Psalm 121:7)
We can commit our possessions to God while exercising proper care and responsibility.

Biblical Example: Job (Job 1:10). Job recognised that his possessions were ultimately under God's sovereign care.

6. GOD'S PROTECTION IS GREATER THAN THE THREATS AROUND YOU

God's power is greater than any threat.

a) No Weapon Shall Prosper (Isaiah 54:17)
God promises to defend His servants against hostile schemes.

b) God Is Greater Than Your Enemies (2 Kings 6:16)
Elisha reminded his servant that those with them were greater than those against them.

c) God Is With You In The Valley (Psalm 23:4)
The presence of God removes the need to live under the domination of fear.

d) God Is Your Strong Tower (Proverbs 18:10)
Those who run to the Lord find security in Him.

Biblical Example: Elisha (2 Kings 6:15-17). Although surrounded by an enemy army, Elisha knew that God's heavenly forces were greater.

7. WALK IN CONFIDENCE, WISDOM, AND FAITH

Faith in God's protection must be accompanied by responsible living.

a) Refuse Fear (Psalm 56:3)
When fear arises, deliberately choose to trust God.

b) Walk Wisely (Ephesians 5:15)
Believers should make careful and responsible choices.

c) Pray Without Ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Continual prayer keeps us dependent upon God.

d) Give Thanks For God's Preservation (Psalm 103:2)
Remembering God's faithfulness strengthens our confidence in Him.

Biblical Example: Nehemiah (Nehemiah 4:9). The people prayed to God while also taking practical measures to protect themselves.

CONCLUSION

The declaration “NO EVIL SHALL BEFALL ME” is a declaration of faith in God's preserving power. Our confidence is not in our ability to control every circumstance, but in the Lord who watches over us. He is concerned about our homes, families, journeys, possessions, and destiny. When we make Him our habitation, we can rest in His presence and trust His faithfulness.

Therefore, do not allow fear to control your heart. Commit your home to God, cover your family in prayer, dedicate your journeys to Him, manage your possessions wisely, and continually abide in His presence. Trust God while taking responsible precautions. May the Lord preserve you, your household, your journeys, your possessions, and your divine assignment, and may His protective presence remain with you all the days of your life.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, thank You for being my refuge, fortress, and protector, in Jesus name.

2. Lord, help me to make You my habitation and remain under Your divine covering, in Jesus name.

3. Father, establish my home under Your presence and preserve everyone in my household, in Jesus name.

4. Lord, protect my spouse, children, family members, and loved ones from every evil, in Jesus name.

5. Father, preserve my going out and my coming in, and guide me safely in every journey, in Jesus name.

6. Lord, protect the possessions and resources You have entrusted into my hands, in Jesus name.

7. Father, deliver me and my household from accidents, disasters, violence, and every form of preventable danger, in Jesus name.

8. Lord, give me wisdom to recognise danger, avoid unnecessary risks, and make responsible decisions, in Jesus name.

9. Father, let no weapon formed against me, my family, or Your purpose for our lives prosper, in Jesus name.

10. Lord, let Your preserving hand remain upon me and my household, and let no evil come near our dwelling, in Jesus name.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS

1. You and your household shall dwell under the shadow of the Almighty.

2. No evil shall befall you, and no plague shall come near your dwelling.

3. The Lord shall preserve your home and everyone who lives therein.

4. Your children and loved ones shall be preserved according to God's purpose for their lives.

5. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in.

6. Every journey you undertake shall be covered with God's wisdom and preserving grace.

7. Your possessions and legitimate resources shall be preserved and used for God's glory.

8. No weapon formed against you or your household shall prosper.

9. The Lord shall deliver you from hidden dangers and give you wisdom to avoid unnecessary risks.

10. Therefore, I declare by faith: NO EVIL SHALL BEFALL ME, NO PLAGUE SHALL COME NEAR MY DWELLING, MY HOME IS UNDER GOD'S CARE, MY FAMILY IS UNDER HIS COVERING, MY JOURNEYS ARE COMMITTED TO HIM, AND MY DESTINY IS PRESERVED FOR HIS GLORY, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
