Description: This study reveals that every believer is sent by Christ with divine authority to fulfil Kingdom assignments.

INTRODUCTION

In Mark 6:7-13, Jesus transitions His disciples from being learners to being labourers. Having spent time with Him, they were now sent out to represent Him. This moment marks a shift from preparation to assignment, showing that discipleship is not complete without deployment.

Jesus did not send them empty-handed. He gave them power and authority over unclean spirits and instructed them on how to carry out their mission. Their success was not based on personal ability but on divine empowerment and obedience to His instructions.

This passage teaches that every believer has a Kingdom assignment. We are not saved to remain idle but to be sent as ambassadors of Christ. With this calling comes authority, responsibility, and the assurance that God’s power backs His commission.

1. THE CALLING PRECEDES THE SENDING

Before being sent, there must be a divine calling and preparation.

a) Jesus calls before He sends (Mark 6:7)
The disciples were first called to Him before being sent out.

b) Preparation is essential (Mark 3:14)
They had been with Jesus, learning and growing before their assignment.

c) Calling is intentional (John 15:16)
Jesus chooses and appoints for a purpose.

d) Calling involves separation (Romans 1:1)
Being called often requires being set apart for God’s work.

Biblical Example:
The calling of Moses (Exodus 3:10-12) shows that God prepares those He sends.

2. GOD EMPOWERS THOSE HE SENDS

Divine assignment comes with divine authority and power.

a) Power over unclean spirits (Mark 6:7)
Jesus gave them authority to confront spiritual forces.

b) Empowerment is from God (Acts 1:8)
The Holy Spirit equips believers for effective ministry.

c) Authority is delegated (Matthew 10:1)
Jesus shares His authority with His followers.

d) Power ensures effectiveness (Luke 10:17)
The disciples returned with testimonies of victory.

Biblical Example:
The seventy disciples (Luke 10:17-19) experienced supernatural authority in their mission.

3. OBEDIENCE IS KEY TO SUCCESSFUL MISSION

Following God’s instructions ensures effectiveness in assignment.

a) Instructions must be followed (Mark 6:8-9)
Jesus gave specific directions on what to take and how to go.

b) Trust in God’s provision (Philippians 4:19)
They were to rely on God rather than material security.

c) Simplicity enhances focus (Hebrews 12:1)
Travelling light keeps the focus on the mission.

d) Obedience produces results (Deuteronomy 28:1-2)
Blessings follow those who obey God’s voice.

Biblical Example:
Naaman obeying Elisha’s instruction (2 Kings 5:10-14) shows how obedience leads to results.

4. THE MISSION INVOLVES PREACHING AND DEMONSTRATION

Kingdom assignment includes both proclamation and manifestation.

a) Preaching repentance (Mark 6:12)
The message of the Kingdom begins with repentance.

b) Casting out demons (Mark 6:13)
Authority is demonstrated through deliverance.

c) Healing the sick (Mark 6:13)
The Gospel is confirmed by acts of compassion and power.

d) Living as representatives of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20)
Believers act as ambassadors of God’s Kingdom.

Biblical Example:
Peter healing the lame man (Acts 3:6-8) demonstrates the power of combining message and manifestation.

CONCLUSION

The sending of the disciples reveals that God’s work is accomplished through those He calls and empowers. Every believer is part of this divine mission, equipped with authority and responsibility to represent Christ in the world.

As followers of Christ, we must embrace our assignment with confidence and obedience. When we go in His name, we do not go alone, His power goes with us. The same authority given to the disciples is available to us today, enabling us to fulfil our Kingdom purpose.
