Title: UNPLANNED MIRACLE
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: Mark 5:22-34
Supporting Texts: Luke 19:1-10, Matthew 15:21-28, Acts 3:1-10
INTRODUCTION:
Unplanned miracles are divine interventions that occur unexpectedly, often as a result of faith and bold action. These miracles are not pre-arranged by human plans but are orchestrated by God in response to persistent faith and trust. The woman with the issue of blood, Zacchaeus, and many others in Scripture are perfect examples of how unplanned miracles can transform lives.
1. UNPLANNED MIRACLES THROUGH FAITH
a) Bold Faith Moves God:
The woman with the issue of blood demonstrated bold faith by saying, “If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole” (Mark 5:28). Her faith activated her healing.
b) Faith That Seizes Opportunities:
Zacchaeus climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus, and his faith led to an encounter that changed his life forever (Luke 19:3-5).
c) Faith That Does Not Wait for an Invitation:
The Syrophoenician woman approached Jesus persistently and secured healing for her daughter (Matthew 15:22-28).
d) Faith Brings the Unexpected:
The lame man at the temple gate expected alms but received healing instead through Peter and John (Acts 3:6-8).
Biblical Example: Blind Bartimaeus cried out persistently despite being rebuked, and his faith led to an unplanned miracle of sight (Mark 10:46-52).
2. UNPLANNED MIRACLES THROUGH DIVINE TIMING
a) God’s Timing is Perfect:
Jesus was on His way to Jairus’ house when the woman with the issue of blood intercepted Him and received her miracle (Mark 5:25-29).
b) Interruptions Can Lead to Miracles:
The widow of Nain received her son back to life when Jesus “happened” to pass by during the funeral procession (Luke 7:12-15).
c) God’s Plans Exceed Human Expectations:
The crippled man at the Pool of Bethesda was healed unexpectedly after 38 years (John 5:5-9).
d) Divine Encounters are Never Coincidences:
Zacchaeus thought he was only climbing a tree to see Jesus, but Jesus stopped and visited his house (Luke 19:5).
Biblical Example: The Samaritan woman at the well encountered Jesus unexpectedly, and her life and community were transformed (John 4:7-29).
3. HOW TO POSITION YOURSELF FOR UNPLANNED MIRACLES
a) Develop a Lifestyle of Faith:
Faith is the currency for divine transactions (Hebrews 11:6).
b) Be Spiritually Sensitive:
Recognise the moments when God is moving (1 Chronicles 12:32).
c) Act Boldly in Faith:
Take decisive steps, as the woman with the issue of blood did by pressing through the crowd (Mark 5:27).
d) Trust God Beyond Your Circumstances:
The Syrophoenician woman trusted Jesus even when He tested her persistence (Matthew 15:27-28).
Biblical Example: The paralytic and his friends demonstrated bold action by breaking through a roof to reach Jesus, resulting in healing (Mark 2:4-5).
4. CHARACTERISTICS OF UNPLANNED MIRACLES
a) They Happen Unexpectedly:
These miracles occur when least expected, such as Peter catching fish after a long, unfruitful night (Luke 5:4-7).
b) They Are Faith-Driven:
Miracles often happen to those who step out in faith, as with the centurion who believed Jesus could heal his servant from afar (Matthew 8:8-10).
c) They Provoke Joy and Gratitude:
The healed leper who returned to give thanks experienced not only healing but restoration (Luke 17:15-19).
d) They Glorify God:
Every miracle testifies to God’s power and goodness, as seen when the lame man at the temple glorified God after his healing (Acts 3:8-9).
Biblical Example: Naaman’s healing from leprosy was an unplanned miracle after obeying Elisha’s seemingly simple instruction (2 Kings 5:14).
5. RESULTS OF UNPLANNED MIRACLES
a) Transformation of Lives:
Zacchaeus’ salvation and restitution followed his encounter with Jesus (Luke 19:8-9).
b) Increased Faith in Others:
The testimony of unplanned miracles stirs faith in those who hear about them (John 4:39).
c) Divine Encounters Multiply:
The Samaritan woman’s unplanned miracle led to a revival in her town (John 4:42).
d) Testimonies Abound:
Blind Bartimaeus’ testimony of healing spread and glorified God (Mark 10:52).
Biblical Example: The resurrection of Lazarus strengthened the faith of many who witnessed it (John 11:45).
CONCLUSION:
Unplanned miracles remind us that God’s ways are beyond human understanding. They happen to those who demonstrate faith, boldness, and persistence. Even if your name is not mentioned or you feel overlooked, trust in God, and He will locate you for a miracle.
