BEYOND LIMITATION 2

Title: BEYOND LIMITATION 2

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Philippians 4:13
Supporting Texts: 2 Corinthians 12:9, Isaiah 40:29-31, John 16:33

INTRODUCTION
Limitations are obstacles that hinder our progress and prevent us from reaching our full potential. These can be physical, emotional, financial, or spiritual. However, as children of God, we are called to live beyond these limitations because we serve a God who is limitless. This sermon will explore how to overcome the limitations in our lives through faith in Christ, focusing on biblical principles and examples.

1. UNDERSTANDING LIMITATIONS

a) What Are Limitations?
Limitations are barriers or boundaries that prevent us from achieving our goals or fulfilling God’s plan for our lives. They may come in the form of fear, doubt, sickness, lack of resources, or external opposition. However, God never designed us to live confined by limitations. In Christ, we are called to break free from every chain that holds us back (Philippians 4:13).

b) Identifying the Sources of Limitation
Some limitations come from within, such as fear, unbelief, or low self-esteem. Others are external, such as societal expectations, spiritual opposition, or physical challenges. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, Paul acknowledges his own limitation—a "thorn in the flesh"—yet declares that God's grace is sufficient, and His power is made perfect in weakness. Recognising the source of our limitations is the first step to overcoming them.

Biblical Example: Gideon’s insecurity (Judges 6:11-16)
Gideon saw himself as the least in his family and doubted his ability to lead Israel. However, God saw beyond his limitations and empowered him to deliver His people.

2. BREAKING THROUGH LIMITATIONS

a) Trusting in God’s Power
The key to overcoming any limitation is recognising that our strength comes from God. In Isaiah 40:29-31, we are reminded that God gives power to the faint and increases strength to those who have no might. No matter what limitation we face, God’s strength is available to carry us beyond it. We must learn to trust in His ability rather than our own.

b) Stepping Out in Faith
Often, limitations remain because we are afraid to take action. However, faith without works is dead (James 2:26). God requires us to step out in faith, believing that He is able to make the impossible possible. When Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on water, it was because he dared to believe Jesus' word (Matthew 14:29).

Biblical Example: The woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:25-34)
This woman was limited by her sickness and isolation, but she pushed through the crowd in faith and touched the hem of Jesus’ garment. Her faith broke the limitation of her infirmity and brought her healing.

3. RENEWING YOUR MINDSET

a) Limitation Begins in the Mind
Many limitations are mental rather than physical. Proverbs 23:7 says, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." If we see ourselves as limited, we will live limited lives. But when we align our thoughts with God’s Word, we begin to see beyond the obstacles. Renewing the mind is essential to breaking free from limitation (Romans 12:2).

b) Overcoming the Fear of Failure
One of the greatest mental limitations is the fear of failure. We must understand that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). The fear of failure can cripple potential, but with God on our side, failure is not the end. It is an opportunity for God to show His strength.

Biblical Example: Joshua and Caleb’s perspective (Numbers 13:30-33)
While others saw giants and limitations in the Promised Land, Joshua and Caleb saw the opportunity for God to fulfill His promise. Their faith led them beyond the limitations that held others back.

4. THE ROLE OF PRAYER AND DEPENDENCE ON GOD

a) Praying Through Your Limitations
Prayer is one of the most powerful tools God has given us to overcome limitations. James 5:16 says, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Through prayer, we bring our limitations before God and seek His intervention. In moments of weakness, prayer invites God's strength into our situation.

b) Total Dependence on God
God is not looking for our perfection, but our dependence on Him. When we acknowledge our limitations and rely on God, He works mightily in and through us. 2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us that His power is made perfect in weakness. In our limitation, God is glorified when we lean on Him completely.

Biblical Example: Hannah’s prayer (1 Samuel 1:9-20)
Hannah was limited by barrenness, but she did not allow it to define her. She poured her heart out to God in prayer, and He turned her limitation into a miracle by giving her a son.

5. PRESSING FORWARD WITH PERSEVERANCE

a) Persistence in the Face of Limitations
To go beyond limitation, we need perseverance. Life’s challenges will often test our resolve, but as Christians, we are called to press forward. In Philippians 3:13-14, Paul speaks of forgetting what lies behind and straining toward what lies ahead. Perseverance helps us break through barriers, knowing that God is working on our behalf.

b) The Reward for Those Who Persevere
God honours those who refuse to give up. Galatians 6:9 encourages us not to grow weary in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not give up. There is a reward for those who keep pushing, keep believing, and keep trusting in God.

Biblical Example:The persistent widow (Luke 18:1-8)
This widow faced limitations in seeking justice, but her persistence caused the unjust judge to grant her request. Jesus used this parable to teach us about the power of persistence in prayer and faith.

CONCLUSION
God has called you to live beyond limitations. Whether they are personal, spiritual, or external, through Christ, you can overcome every obstacle. Philippians 4:13 declares, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." With God on your side, no limitation is too great. Trust in His power, step out in faith, renew your mindset, and persevere in prayer and action. Your victory is certain!
