THIS WICKEDNESS MUST STOP

Title: THIS WICKEDNESS MUST STOP

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Psalm 7:9
Supporting Texts: Isaiah 5:20, Proverbs 6:16-19, Ecclesiastes 12:14

INTRODUCTION:
Wickedness is the deliberate act of doing evil, and it is against the will of God. In today's world, we see acts of wickedness that are rampant, but as believers, we must stand against evil and declare that it must stop. God is righteous, and He will judge the wicked. This sermon highlights the need to confront wickedness and trust in God's justice.

1. THE NATURE OF WICKEDNESS

a) Definition of Wickedness
Wickedness is any action or thought that is against God’s moral law, leading to harm and destruction (Proverbs 6:16-19).

b) Examples of Wickedness in the Bible
The Bible is filled with stories of wicked acts, such as the oppression of the poor, violence, and deception (Isaiah 5:20).

c) Wickedness in Our World Today
Wickedness can be seen in corruption, injustice, violence, and immoral behavior, all of which violate God's commandments.

d) The Effects of Wickedness
Wickedness destroys individuals, families, and societies, leading to chaos, pain, and suffering.

Biblical Example:
The days of Noah were marked by great wickedness, and God had to intervene (Genesis 6:5-7).

2. GOD'S JUDGMENT AGAINST WICKEDNESS

a) God is Righteous
God is holy and cannot tolerate sin. His justice requires that wickedness be dealt with (Psalm 7:9).

b) The Consequences of Wickedness
Wickedness leads to destruction and separation from God. Injustice will be brought to light, and evildoers will be punished (Ecclesiastes 12:14).

c) God's Promise of Deliverance for the Righteous
God will not allow the wicked to triumph forever. He promises to protect and deliver His people from wickedness (Psalm 37:9-11).

d) The Certainty of Divine Judgment
No act of wickedness will go unpunished; God will judge the world in righteousness (Romans 1:18).

Biblical Example:
Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of their wickedness (Genesis 19:24-25).

3. CONFRONTING WICKEDNESS IN PRAYER

a) Praying for God’s Intervention
When we see wickedness, we must cry out to God for His intervention, as David did (Psalm 7:9).

b) Binding the Spirit of Wickedness
We have the authority to bind the forces of wickedness and release God's righteousness over our land (Matthew 18:18).

c) Standing in the Gap for Justice
We are called to be intercessors, standing in the gap for those suffering under wicked oppression (Ezekiel 22:30).

d) Praying for the Wicked to Repent
God desires the wicked to turn from their evil ways and repent, and our prayers can lead to their salvation (2 Peter 3:9).

Biblical Example:
Abraham interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah, hoping that the wicked would turn to righteousness (Genesis 18:23-32).

4. OVERCOMING WICKEDNESS WITH GOOD

a) Walking in the Light of God’s Word
To overcome wickedness, we must live according to God’s Word, allowing His truth to guide our actions (Psalm 119:105).

b) Doing Good Amidst Evil
We are called to overcome evil with good, showing love, mercy, and justice in a world filled with wickedness (Romans 12:21).

c) Promoting Righteousness
As believers, we are to be the salt and light of the world, promoting righteousness and standing against evil (Matthew 5:13-16).

d) Spreading the Gospel of Truth
The gospel is the ultimate answer to wickedness, transforming hearts and bringing people into God's kingdom (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Biblical Example:
Jesus Christ overcame the wickedness of the world by laying down His life and bringing salvation to all (John 3:16).

5. LIVING WITH CONFIDENCE IN GOD'S JUSTICE

a) Trusting God’s Timing
God will act in His perfect time to stop wickedness and bring justice to the oppressed (Ecclesiastes 3:17).

b) Holding on to God's Promises
The righteous can be confident that God will vindicate them and that wickedness will not prevail forever (Psalm 37:34).

c) Faith in God's Sovereignty
We can have peace, knowing that God is in control and that He will ultimately destroy all forms of wickedness (Psalm 73:27).

d) Encouraging Others to Stand Firm
As we trust in God’s justice, we must encourage others to remain steadfast in their faith and not be discouraged by the evil around them (Hebrews 10:35-36).

Biblical Example:
Job trusted in God’s justice even in the midst of severe trials and wickedness against him (Job 1:8-12, 42:10).

CONCLUSION:
Wickedness may seem prevalent in our world, but we serve a God who is just and righteous. This wickedness must stop, and it is through prayer, righteousness, and faith in God's judgment that we can overcome evil. As believers, we must stand firm in God's Word and trust that He will deliver us from wickedness and bring justice.
