INTRODUCTION:
There are seasons in life when circumstances defy explanation, when the situation you are facing seems to contradict the promises you’ve been holding on to. It’s during these times that faith is truly tested—not when everything is going well, but when nothing makes sense.

The Bible is filled with men and women who stood firm when their reality did not align with their expectations. Job held on to his faith despite unbearable loss, Abraham trusted God’s word even when nature made it seem impossible, and Paul continued to preach the Gospel despite imprisonment and persecution.

In moments when life’s storms are raging, our emotions scream for answers, and our prayers seem unanswered, God calls us to stand, trust, and remain anchored in Him. In this message, we will learn how to hold on when life’s circumstances seem confusing, painful, and uncertain.

1. WHY GOD ALLOWS SEASONS THAT DON’T MAKE SENSE

a) To deepen our trust in Him (Proverbs 3:5-6)
God desires that we lean on Him completely, not on our understanding.

b) To demonstrate His sovereignty (Isaiah 55:8-9)
He operates beyond our logic and in ways that are higher than our thoughts.

c) To produce steadfast faith (1 Peter 1:6-7)
Faith that has been tested is faith that can stand the storms of life.

d) To reveal His glory in unusual ways (John 9:1-3)
Sometimes God allows perplexing situations to showcase His power uniquely.

Biblical Example: Job — despite incomprehensible suffering, he trusted God’s character.

2. HOW TO HOLD ON WHEN LIFE DOESN’T MAKE SENSE

a) Anchor yourself in the Word (Romans 10:17)
The Word of God becomes your stabilizing force when life is unstable.

b) Maintain a lifestyle of prayer (Philippians 4:6-7)
Prayer keeps you connected to God’s peace and perspective.

c) Surround yourself with godly counsel (Proverbs 11:14)
The right voices will keep you from making decisions in haste or despair.

d) Choose worship over worry (Habakkuk 3:17-18)
Worship shifts your focus from the problem to the God who solves problems.

Biblical Example: Paul and Silas — they sang hymns in prison before God opened the doors.

3. THE REWARDS OF HOLDING ON IN DIFFICULT SEASONS

a) Spiritual maturity (James 1:2-4)
Trials mature your faith and patience.

b) Greater revelation of God’s character (Exodus 14:13-14)
Difficult moments reveal dimensions of God we wouldn’t know otherwise.

c) Testimonies that inspire others (Psalm 40:1-3)
Your endurance becomes someone else’s encouragement.

d) Divine restoration and blessing (Job 42:10-12)
God’s endings are always better than the beginnings.

Biblical Example: Joseph — his years of pain ended with the fulfilment of his dreams and the salvation of a nation.

CONCLUSION:
Holding on when it doesn’t make sense is one of the greatest demonstrations of faith. It is a declaration to heaven and earth that your trust is not in what you see, but in the God who holds your future.

When you can’t trace God’s hand, you can still trust His heart. What you are facing now is not the end of your story—it’s a chapter in the testimony God is writing about your life. Stay anchored, because the outcome will reveal His glory and faithfulness.
