I CAN’T REMAIN LIKE THIS
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: 2 Kings 7:3-8
Key Verse: “Why sit we here until we die? If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.” (2 Kings 7:3-4, KJV)
Supporting Texts: Isaiah 60:1; Luke 15:17-20; John 5:6-9; Philippians 3:13-14
Description: A life of stagnation is not God’s will; you must rise by faith, take decisive steps, and refuse to remain in the same situation.
INTRODUCTION:
Many believers settle for less than what God has destined for them because of fear, complacency, or unbelief. Life’s challenges sometimes push people into a corner where they accept stagnation as normal. But child of God, it is not God’s will for you to remain in defeat, bondage, or lack.
The Bible shows us men and women who refused to remain in their negative situations. The four lepers in 2 Kings 7 made a life-changing decision that turned famine into abundance. The prodigal son refused to die in hunger and arose to return to his father. These examples reveal that progress comes when you determine, “I can’t remain like this.”
Your breakthrough begins with a decision to rise. God has already made provision for your change, but you must refuse stagnation and move by faith. Today, we will learn what it means to rise out of delay, bondage, and hopelessness into divine advancement.
1. REFUSE TO ACCEPT STAGNATION
You must consciously reject every condition that keeps you down.
a) Stagnation is not God’s plan (Jeremiah 29:11)
God’s thoughts are of peace and progress.
b) Remaining the same is dangerous (Proverbs 24:33-34)
Laziness and complacency bring poverty.
c) You must decide to rise (Isaiah 60:1)
Arise and shine, for your light has come.
d) Refuse the lies of the enemy (John 10:10)
Satan wants to keep you bound, but Christ gives life.
Biblical Example: The prodigal son said, “I will arise and go to my father” (Luke 15:18), and his change began immediately.
2. TAKE STEPS OF FAITH
Breakthrough begins with decisive action in line with God’s Word.
a) Faith requires movement (James 2:17)
Faith without works is dead.
b) God honours bold steps (Joshua 1:9)
Courage opens doors to victory.
c) Faith overcomes fear (2 Timothy 1:7)
Fear keeps you stagnant, faith propels you forward.
d) Small steps can trigger big miracles (Matthew 17:20)
Even mustard-seed faith can move mountains.
Biblical Example: The woman with the issue of blood took a step of faith by touching Jesus’ garment and received instant healing (Mark 5:25-29).
3. CONNECT TO DIVINE OPPORTUNITIES
God opens doors, but you must recognize and enter them.
a) God sets open doors before His people (Revelation 3:8)
No man can shut what He opens.
b) Opportunities are often disguised as challenges (Romans 8:28)
Even problems can carry divine solutions.
c) Divine timing requires quick response (Ecclesiastes 9:11)
The race is not to the swift, but to those who seize the moment.
d) Association determines elevation (Proverbs 13:20)
The right connections move you forward.
Biblical Example: The four lepers entered the Syrian camp at the right time and discovered abundance (2 Kings 7:5-8).
4. PRESS FORWARD TO YOUR NEXT LEVEL
Refusing to remain the same means striving for greater heights in God.
a) Don’t settle for yesterday’s victories (Philippians 3:13-14)
Forget the past and press toward the mark.
b) God’s plan is continuous progress (Proverbs 4:18)
The path of the just shines brighter and brighter.
c) Your testimony is ahead of you (Habakkuk 2:3)
The vision will speak at the appointed time.
d) God strengthens those who move forward (Isaiah 41:10)
He upholds you with His righteous hand.
Biblical Example: Blind Bartimaeus refused to remain silent; he pressed forward and received his sight (Mark 10:46-52).
CONCLUSION:
Beloved, you cannot afford to remain in stagnation, defeat, or delay. The God who lifted others is ready to lift you, but you must refuse to remain in your current situation. Declare boldly, “I can’t remain like this,” and rise by faith.
Your next level is waiting. Make the decision today, take the step of faith, and watch God turn your story around.
