THE ANOINTING STILL SPEAKS

INTRODUCTION:
The closing days of Elisha’s life were marked by prophetic activity and supernatural legacy. Even on his deathbed, the king of Israel came to visit him, weeping and acknowledging him as the chariots and horsemen of Israel—a symbol of divine strength and covering. In that moment, Elisha did not focus on his own suffering but gave the king a prophetic instruction with lasting significance: “Shoot the arrow of the Lord’s deliverance.”
Even after his death, the anointing on Elisha’s bones brought a dead man back to life. This teaches us that God’s gifts and calling are not limited to a person’s physical presence—they are eternal, impactful, and transferable. The anointing is not buried; it continues to work when honoured by faith.
1. THE ANOINTING IS GREATER THAN THE MAN
Elisha was sick, but his spirit remained vibrant.
a) The power of God does not depend on physical strength
Though dying, Elisha still operated in divine authority (v.14).
b) God’s presence in a person has national significance
The king recognised Elisha’s spiritual value and wept.
c) True men of God outlive their bodies through legacy
Spiritual impact is not measured by lifespan, but by divine relevance.
d) Honour for the anointed opens the door for revelation
The king’s honour created a prophetic moment of guidance.
Biblical Example: Though Abel was dead, his faith still spoke (Hebrews 11:4).
2. DIVINE INSTRUCTIONS CARRY PROPHETIC IMPACT
Elisha told the king to shoot and strike the ground with arrows.
a) Prophetic acts are not symbolic—they are spiritual triggers (v.17-19)
What seems ordinary becomes extraordinary through obedience.
b) Partial obedience limits divine results
The king struck only three times and limited his victories.
c) God often tests our faith through physical actions
He watches how seriously we treat His instructions.
d) Disobedience affects destiny, even if we’re in the right environment
Being around Elisha didn’t guarantee success—obedience was still key.
Biblical Example: Naaman’s healing required full obedience to the dipping instruction (2 Kings 5:10-14).
3. THE ANOINTING CAN OUTLIVE THE ANOINTED
A dead man revived after touching Elisha’s bones.
a) God’s power is not limited by death or decay (v.21)
The anointing is a spiritual deposit, not a biological trait.
b) Honour for what God has done preserves its power for generations
The anointing remains accessible for those who value it.
c) Mantles can still raise the dead when properly connected to
God honours covenantal relationships and spiritual inheritance.
d) Revival can come from unexpected encounters with legacy
Even in death, Elisha’s life continued to give life.
Biblical Example: Paul’s handkerchiefs and aprons carried healing virtue (Acts 19:11-12).
4. HONOURING LEGACY RELEASES PROPHETIC DELIVERANCE
Joash received direction and partial deliverance.
a) Legacy must be valued to be accessed
Elisha poured into the king because he honoured him.
b) Prophetic mentorship still shapes national destiny
God uses spiritual fathers to chart the future of leaders.
c) Honour is not about words but obedience
Joash honoured Elisha in emotion but fell short in execution.
d) What you fail to fully engage will never fully bless you
Many lose their inheritance by treating legacy lightly.
Biblical Example: Timothy was charged to stir up the gift passed down to him (2 Timothy 1:6).
5. THE ANOINTING IS A DIVINE TRUST—NOT A PERSONAL POSSESSION
Elisha’s ministry continued even after his last breath.
a) Spiritual gifts are not withdrawn at death (Romans 11:29)
God’s calling remains valid even beyond the grave.
b) God invests His power in people for kingdom advancement
The anointing is not for show—it is for service.
c) We must respect and preserve the wells dug by past generals
There’s still power in their words, teachings, and impartations.
d) God is calling this generation to rediscover forgotten mantles
The Church must not let the anointing die with its carriers.
Biblical Example: Elijah passed his mantle to Elisha; Elisha’s own mantle remained active.
CONCLUSION:
The story of Elisha’s final days and posthumous miracle reveals that the anointing of God is eternal and powerful, regardless of human condition or death. When spiritual legacy is honoured and divine instruction is obeyed, there is always deliverance, revival, and restoration. God is looking for people who will place value on what He has deposited in His servants and be faithful to continue the assignment with full obedience.
PRAYER POINTS:
