GOD USES THE WEAK THINGS AGAIN

INTRODUCTION:
The story of Samson reminds us that God does not need mighty weapons or sophisticated strategies to secure victory for His people. In Judges 15, Samson found himself surrounded by enemies who outnumbered him a thousand to one. In the natural, this was a hopeless situation, yet God gave him victory using the jawbone of a donkey – an instrument that no warrior would have considered as a weapon of war.

This story reveals the mystery of how God works. He often chooses weak, foolish, or despised things to confound the strong and mighty. By doing this, He makes it clear that the victory belongs to Him and not to human effort. Many times, God allows us to face overwhelming situations so that when deliverance comes, all glory goes back to Him.

The jawbone in Samson’s hand represents the unlikely instruments God can use – things others despise, things people laugh at, things considered useless. Yet, when touched by the Spirit of God, they become powerful weapons of victory. Today, the Lord is reminding us again that He can use the weak things in our lives to produce mighty breakthroughs.

1. GOD CHOOSES UNLIKELY INSTRUMENTS
Samson’s victory was not by sword, spear, or shield but by a mere jawbone. God deliberately chooses unusual tools to prove His power.

a) God delights in using the weak (1 Corinthians 1:27): He confounds the wise by using what they despise.

b) The jawbone symbolises human weakness (Judges 15:15): It was not designed as a weapon, yet God turned it into one.

c) God turns ordinary things into extraordinary tools (Exodus 4:2): Moses’ rod became the staff of miracles.

d) No one is too small to be used (Zechariah 4:10): God values even the seemingly insignificant.

Biblical Example: David defeated Goliath not with armour or spear, but with a sling and a stone (1 Samuel 17:40-50).

2. GOD’S SPIRIT EMPOWERS HUMAN WEAKNESS
Samson was anointed by the Spirit, and that made all the difference. Without the Spirit, the jawbone was useless, but with the Spirit, it became a mighty weapon.

a) The Spirit gives strength beyond human ability (Judges 15:14): When the Spirit came upon Samson, his bonds were loosed.

b) God’s power is perfected in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9): His grace turns weakness into strength.

c) The Spirit transforms the natural into supernatural (Acts 1:8): Ordinary men became mighty witnesses.

d) You cannot fight life’s battles in your own strength (Zechariah 4:6): Victory comes “not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit.”

Biblical Example: Gideon’s 300 men overcame a vast army because the Spirit of the Lord fought for them (Judges 7:7, 20-22).

3. GOD BRINGS GREAT VICTORY FROM SMALL RESOURCES
The jawbone was small and despised, but it brought great deliverance. God specialises in multiplying little to produce much.

a) God does not need much to do much (John 6:9-13): Five loaves and two fishes fed thousands.

b) God uses small beginnings for great endings (Job 8:7): Though your beginning is small, your end shall increase.

c) What you consider insignificant, God can use mightily (2 Kings 4:2): The widow’s small jar of oil produced abundance.

d) God uses little things to shame the mighty (Psalm 8:2): Out of the mouth of babes, He ordains strength.

Biblical Example: Elijah’s small cloud like a man’s hand brought heavy rain (1 Kings 18:44-45).

4. GOD TURNS WEAKNESS INTO TESTIMONY
Samson’s impossible situation became a testimony of God’s power. What the enemy meant for his defeat became his victory.

a) God turns battles into testimonies (Revelation 12:11): Through trials, testimonies are birthed.

b) Weak moments can produce strong testimonies (2 Corinthians 4:7): Our fragile jars carry God’s treasure.

c) Every limitation is an opportunity for God’s glory (John 9:3): The man’s blindness revealed God’s power.

d) God allows trials so His power is revealed (James 1:2-3): Trials refine and produce testimonies.

Biblical Example: Joseph’s slavery and imprisonment became a testimony of promotion (Genesis 50:20).

5. GOD WILL GIVE YOU VICTORY OVER YOUR ENEMIES
Just as Samson’s enemies fell before him, so shall your enemies fall before you. No opposition is greater than God’s power working through you.

a) God fights for His people (Exodus 14:14): He told Israel to be still and watch Him fight.

b) God always makes a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13): He will never allow you to be overwhelmed.

c) Victory is assured in Christ (1 Corinthians 15:57): Thanks be to God who gives us victory.

d) God will use your weakness to silence your enemies (Psalm 23:5): He prepares a table before you.

Biblical Example: Jehoshaphat’s enemies destroyed one another while Israel only sang praises (2 Chronicles 20:22-24).

CONCLUSION:
The story of Samson and the jawbone of a donkey shows us that God does not need much to give us victory. He specialises in using weak things, unlikely instruments, and despised vessels to perform mighty deliverance. The secret lies in yielding to the Spirit of God. No matter how weak you feel or how small your resources are, God can use them to bring about your breakthrough. What is in your hand today may look ordinary, but in God’s hands, it can slay giants, silence enemies, and turn your story into a testimony.
