POWER AGAINST YOUR GOLIATH

POWER AGAINST YOUR GOLIATH

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: 1 Samuel 17:45-47

"Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hands."

Supporting Texts: Psalm 27:1-3, 2 Corinthians 10:4, Romans 8:37, Isaiah 54:17, Luke 10:19

INTRODUCTION
A Goliath represents anything that stands as a giant of opposition in the life of a believer. Goliath was a physical giant who terrorised Israel until God used a young shepherd, David, to bring him down. Every believer has a Goliath to face—whether it be fear, sickness, poverty, delay, or spiritual oppression. However, as David prevailed, you too have the power to defeat every Goliath standing in your way.

1. WHO OR WHAT IS YOUR GOLIATH?
Goliaths are obstacles that seek to hinder God's promises from manifesting in your life.

a) Goliath of Fear
Fear can paralyse destiny and hinder progress (2 Timothy 1:7).

b) Goliath of Intimidation
Goliath mocked and threatened Israel for 40 days (1 Samuel 17:16).

c) Goliath of Delay and Stagnation
Israel remained stuck in fear and inaction because of Goliath (1 Samuel 17:11).

d) Goliath of Generational Battles
The Philistines had been enemies of Israel for generations (Judges 3:3).

e) Biblical Example:
Pharaoh was a Goliath to Israel, but God delivered them through Moses (Exodus 14:13-14).

2. KEYS TO CONQUERING YOUR GOLIATH
Victory over Goliath requires divine strategies and spiritual empowerment.

a) Recognise the Battle Belongs to God
David declared that the battle was the Lord’s (1 Samuel 17:47).

b) Refuse to Be Intimidated
David was not moved by Goliath’s threats (1 Samuel 17:32).

c) Use the Right Spiritual Weapons
Goliath came with weapons of war, but David came with faith in God (2 Corinthians 10:4).

d) Speak Boldly Against Your Goliath
David declared Goliath’s defeat before it happened (1 Samuel 17:46).

e) Biblical Example:
Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal with boldness and faith (1 Kings 18:36-39).

3. CHARACTERISTICS OF GOLIATHS IN YOUR LIFE
Goliaths often operate in specific ways to intimidate and weaken believers.

a) They Boast and Mock the People of God
Goliath insulted Israel and their God (1 Samuel 17:10).

b) They Seek to Instill Fear
The entire army of Israel was afraid (1 Samuel 17:24).

c) They Are Often Heavily Armed, But Defeatable
Goliath wore massive armour, but a single stone defeated him (1 Samuel 17:5-7, 49).

d) They Challenge the Identity and Faith of Believers
Goliath belittled David because of his youth (1 Samuel 17:42-43).

e) Biblical Example:
Sennacherib mocked God, but Hezekiah prayed and God destroyed him (2 Kings 19:35).

4. SPIRITUAL WEAPONS AGAINST YOUR GOLIATH
Every believer has been given weapons to defeat their Goliath.

a) The Name of the Lord
David defeated Goliath by coming in God’s name (Proverbs 18:10).

b) The Word of God
The Word is a powerful weapon against the enemy (Hebrews 4:12).

c) The Blood of Jesus
The blood breaks yokes and nullifies satanic attacks (Revelation 12:11).

d) Prayer and Fasting
Some battles require intense spiritual discipline (Matthew 17:21).

e) Biblical Example:
Jehoshaphat won a battle through praise and worship (2 Chronicles 20:22).

5. RESULTS OF DEFEATING YOUR GOLIATH
When your Goliath falls, you enter into a new level of victory and promotion.

a) Divine Promotion and Honour
David was lifted and celebrated after defeating Goliath (1 Samuel 18:6-7).

b) Supernatural Open Doors
David’s victory led to opportunities he never imagined (1 Samuel 17:25).

c) Fear and Shame Are Destroyed
The fear that had gripped Israel was broken (1 Samuel 17:51-52).

d) God’s Name is Glorified
David’s victory proved that God fights for His people (1 Samuel 17:46).

e) Biblical Example:
Daniel’s victory in the lion’s den led to God’s name being glorified (Daniel 6:25-27).

CONCLUSION
Every believer will face Goliaths—problems, enemies, or obstacles that challenge their faith and destiny. However, just as David prevailed, you have the power to overcome through faith, boldness, and spiritual warfare. Do not be intimidated by the size of your Goliath, for God is greater. Stand firm, use your spiritual weapons, and watch your Goliath fall.
