Description: Sacrificial worship is the heartfelt offering of our best to God, demonstrating love, devotion, and complete surrender to His will.

INTRODUCTION
One of the most remarkable acts of worship recorded in the Gospels is the anointing of Jesus at Bethany. As Jesus sat in the house of Simon the leper, a woman approached Him with an alabaster box containing very costly ointment and poured it upon His head. What appeared to some as an unnecessary waste was, in reality, an extraordinary act of love, honour, and worship. Jesus commended her action and declared that her deed would be remembered wherever the gospel was preached.

Sacrificial worship goes beyond routine religious activities. It involves giving God something valuable, something that costs us time, comfort, resources, reputation, or personal desires. Throughout Scripture, God consistently honoured those who offered Him their best. Genuine worship is not measured by the size of the gift but by the depth of devotion and the willingness of the heart.

In a world that often promotes convenience and self-interest, believers are called to embrace sacrificial worship. True worshippers understand that God deserves more than leftovers; He deserves the very best of our lives. When worship becomes sacrificial, it attracts God's attention, releases spiritual blessings, and leaves a lasting impact for generations to come.

1. SACRIFICIAL WORSHIP FLOWS FROM GENUINE LOVE FOR CHRIST
The woman at Bethany gave extravagantly because she loved Jesus deeply.

a) Love Motivates True Worship (Matthew 26:7)
Her costly offering reflected the depth of her affection and appreciation for Christ.

b) Worship Is a Response to God's Goodness (Psalm 116:12)
Gratitude for God's mercy and blessings inspires heartfelt worship.

c) Genuine Love Holds Nothing Back (John 12:3)
Those who truly love Christ willingly give Him their best.

d) Love Makes Sacrifice Joyful (1 John 5:3)
What seems costly to others becomes a privilege to those who love God.

Biblical Example: Mary of Bethany poured expensive perfume on Jesus' feet because of her deep love and devotion to Him (John 12:1-8).

2. SACRIFICIAL WORSHIP REQUIRES GIVING GOD OUR BEST
God deserves the highest place in our lives and our finest offerings.

a) God Rejects Careless Offerings (Malachi 1:8)
The Lord is not honoured when we give Him what costs us nothing.

b) Excellence Honours God (Ecclesiastes 9:10)
Whatever we do for God should be done wholeheartedly.

c) Worship Involves Total Surrender (Romans 12:1)
Believers are called to present themselves as living sacrifices.

d) God Values the Heart Behind the Gift (2 Corinthians 9:7)
The attitude of the worshipper is as important as the offering itself.

Biblical Example: Abel offered the firstlings of his flock and received God's approval because he brought his best (Genesis 4:4).

3. SACRIFICIAL WORSHIP MAY ATTRACT CRITICISM
Not everyone understands the language of devotion.

a) The Woman Was Criticized (Matthew 26:8-9)
The disciples viewed her act as wasteful and unnecessary.

b) Spiritual Commitment Is Often Misunderstood (1 Corinthians 2:14)
Those who lack spiritual insight may fail to appreciate true worship.

c) Pleasing God Must Take Priority (Galatians 1:10)
Believers should seek God's approval above human opinion.

d) Christ Defends Genuine Worshippers (Matthew 26:10)
Jesus publicly vindicated the woman and praised her sacrifice.

Biblical Example: David was criticized by Michal for his passionate worship before the Lord, yet God honoured his devotion (2 Samuel 6:14-23).

4. SACRIFICIAL WORSHIP RELEASES SPIRITUAL IMPACT
Acts of genuine worship often produce effects beyond what we can see.

a) Worship Invites God's Presence (Psalm 22:3)
God manifests His presence where sincere worship is offered.

b) Worship Opens Doors for Divine Intervention (Acts 16:25-26)
Praise and worship can bring breakthrough in difficult situations.

c) Worship Strengthens Faith (Habakkuk 3:17-18)
Worship shifts focus from problems to God's greatness.

d) Worship Influences Others (Matthew 5:16)
A life of devotion becomes a testimony that inspires people.

Biblical Example: Paul and Silas worshipped God in prison, and their worship resulted in a miraculous deliverance (Acts 16:25-34).

5. SACRIFICIAL WORSHIP CREATES AN ETERNAL LEGACY
What is done sincerely for God leaves a lasting impact.

a) God Remembers Faithful Worship (Hebrews 6:10)
The Lord never forgets acts of love and devotion.

b) Worship Can Influence Future Generations (Psalm 145:4)
A life of worship leaves a spiritual inheritance.

c) Heaven Records Acts of Faithfulness (Malachi 3:16)
God keeps a memorial of those who honour Him.

d) Devotion Has Eternal Rewards (Matthew 26:13)
Jesus promised that the woman's act would be remembered throughout history.

Biblical Example: Cornelius' prayers and charitable deeds came up as a memorial before God and brought divine visitation (Acts 10:1-4).

6. SACRIFICIAL WORSHIP BRINGS GOD'S COMMENDATION
God publicly honours those who privately honour Him.

a) Jesus Commended the Woman's Act (Matthew 26:10)
The Lord described her offering as a good work.

b) God Rewards Faithfulness (Hebrews 11:6)
Those who diligently seek and serve Him receive His reward.

c) Honour Comes from God (John 12:26)
God honours those who honour Him through obedience and devotion.

d) Eternal Joy Awaits True Worshippers (Revelation 22:3-5)
The worship of God's people will continue throughout eternity.

Biblical Example: Solomon's sacrificial worship at Gibeon pleased God so greatly that the Lord appeared to him and granted him wisdom and blessing (1 Kings 3:4-13).

CONCLUSION
The story of the anointing at Bethany teaches that sacrificial worship possesses tremendous spiritual power. The woman gave something precious because she recognized the incomparable worth of Jesus. Her act of worship was not motivated by recognition or reward but by genuine love and devotion. As a result, Jesus honoured her and ensured that her story would be remembered for generations.

Believers today are called to offer God more than casual worship. We are called to give Him our hearts, our time, our resources, our obedience, and our lives. Sacrificial worship may be misunderstood by people, but it is always recognized by God. When we honour Him with our best, His presence, favour, and blessing are released into our lives. May we become worshippers who hold nothing back from the One who gave everything for us.
