Description: The judgment of the sheep and the goats reveals that genuine faith in Christ is demonstrated through love, compassion, obedience, and practical service to others.

INTRODUCTION
Matthew 25 concludes with one of the most solemn teachings of Jesus concerning the final judgment. After teaching the Parable of the Ten Virgins and the Parable of the Talents, Jesus spoke about a future day when He would sit upon the throne of His glory and judge all nations. In this judgment, humanity will be separated into two groups: the sheep and the goats. The sheep represent those who truly belonged to Christ, while the goats represent those who rejected Him through their unbelief and disobedience.

This passage emphasizes that while salvation is by grace through faith, genuine faith produces visible evidence in a person's life. The sheep demonstrated compassion, kindness, and concern for others, particularly those in need. Their actions did not earn their salvation but revealed the reality of their relationship with God. The goats, on the other hand, failed to demonstrate such love and compassion, exposing the absence of genuine faith.

The message of the sheep and goats judgment is a call to self-examination. It challenges believers to consider whether their faith is producing godly fruit. Christ's followers are called not only to believe the truth but also to live it. As we await the Lord's return, we must ensure that our lives reflect His character through acts of love, mercy, and faithful obedience.

1. CHRIST WILL RETURN AS THE RIGHTEOUS JUDGE
The passage begins with a majestic picture of Christ returning in glory to judge the nations.

a) Christ Will Come in Glory (Matthew 25:31)
The Lord Jesus will return in power, majesty, and divine authority.

b) All Nations Will Appear Before Him (Matthew 25:32)
Every person, regardless of status, nationality, or position, will stand before Christ.

c) Judgment Belongs to Christ (John 5:22)
The Father has committed all judgment to the Son.

d) His Judgment Will Be Perfectly Just (Romans 2:6)
Christ's judgments will be based on perfect knowledge, righteousness, and truth.

Biblical Example: Daniel saw a prophetic vision of God's throne and the judgment of the nations, pointing to Christ's future reign and judgment (Daniel 7:9-14).

2. CHRIST WILL SEPARATE THE SHEEP FROM THE GOATS
The Lord will distinguish between those who belong to Him and those who do not.

a) The Sheep Represent True Believers (Matthew 25:33)
The sheep symbolize those who have genuinely trusted and followed Christ.

b) The Goats Represent the Unfaithful (Matthew 25:33)
The goats symbolize those who rejected God's ways and lived without genuine submission to Him.

c) God Knows Those Who Are His (2 Timothy 2:19)
The Lord perfectly knows the condition of every heart.

d) Outward Appearance Cannot Deceive God (1 Samuel 16:7)
God looks beyond external appearances and examines the heart.

Biblical Example: God distinguished between Noah and the corrupt generation around him because Noah walked faithfully before Him (Genesis 6:8-9).

3. TRUE FAITH PRODUCES COMPASSIONATE ACTIONS
The sheep were commended because their lives reflected God's love toward others.

a) Feeding the Hungry (Matthew 25:35)
God values acts of compassion toward those who are in need.

b) Caring for Strangers (Matthew 25:35)
Hospitality and kindness reveal the love of Christ in action.

c) Helping the Sick and Afflicted (Matthew 25:36)
Serving those who suffer demonstrates practical Christian love.

d) Visiting the Imprisoned (Matthew 25:36)
Believers are called to care for forgotten and neglected people.

Biblical Example: The Good Samaritan demonstrated genuine compassion by helping an injured stranger when others ignored him (Luke 10:30-37).

4. OUR TREATMENT OF OTHERS REFLECTS OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST
Jesus identified Himself with those who were served and cared for.

a) Serving Others Is Serving Christ (Matthew 25:40)
Acts of kindness performed for others are regarded by Christ as service rendered to Him.

b) Love Is Evidence of Discipleship (John 13:35)
The love believers show to others demonstrates their relationship with Christ.

c) Genuine Faith Produces Good Works (James 2:17)
Faith that does not result in action is incomplete and ineffective.

d) Christ Notices Every Act of Kindness (Hebrews 6:10)
No act of service done for God's glory is forgotten by the Lord.

Biblical Example: Dorcas (Tabitha) was known for her continual acts of kindness and charity toward those in need (Acts 9:36-39).

5. NEGLECTING GOD'S WILL HAS ETERNAL CONSEQUENCES
The goats were condemned not for acts of cruelty but for their failure to act in love and obedience.

a) Indifference Is Dangerous (Matthew 25:42-43)
Ignoring opportunities to help others reveals a heart disconnected from God's compassion.

b) Mere Profession Is Not Enough (Matthew 7:21)
Claiming to know God without living in obedience is insufficient.

c) Missed Opportunities Matter (Galatians 6:10)
Believers are called to do good whenever opportunities arise.

d) Judgment Reveals True Character (Matthew 25:45)
The final judgment will expose the reality of each person's relationship with God.

Biblical Example: The rich man ignored Lazarus during his lifetime and later faced the consequences of his indifference (Luke 16:19-31).

6. ETERNAL DESTINIES WILL BE DECIDED
The judgment of the sheep and goats culminates in two eternal outcomes.

a) The Righteous Will Inherit the Kingdom (Matthew 25:34)
Believers will enter the eternal kingdom prepared by God.

b) The Wicked Will Face Eternal Separation (Matthew 25:41)
Those who reject God's salvation will face eternal judgment.

c) Eternal Life Is God's Gift to the Faithful (Matthew 25:46)
The redeemed will enjoy everlasting fellowship with God.

d) The Time to Prepare Is Now (2 Corinthians 6:2)
Today is the day of salvation and the opportunity to respond to God.

Biblical Example: The thief on the cross received salvation because he placed his faith in Christ before it was too late (Luke 23:39-43).

CONCLUSION
The judgment of the sheep and the goats is a powerful reminder that every person will one day stand before Christ. On that day, the Lord will separate those who truly belong to Him from those who do not. Genuine faith is not merely a profession of belief but a transformed life that demonstrates love, compassion, mercy, and obedience to God.

As believers, we must examine our hearts and ensure that our faith is producing the fruit that honours Christ. Every opportunity to serve, help, encourage, and care for others is an opportunity to serve the Lord Himself. Let us live with eternity in view, faithfully reflecting Christ's love and preparing for the day when we shall stand before Him.
