Description: God expects every believer to faithfully manage and maximize the gifts, opportunities, resources, and responsibilities entrusted to them.

INTRODUCTION
Stewardship is a fundamental principle throughout Scripture. A steward is someone entrusted with the responsibility of managing resources that belong to another. In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus taught the Parable of the Talents to emphasize the importance of faithful stewardship. The servants in the parable were entrusted with their master's resources and were expected to manage them wisely until his return. Their reward or punishment was determined by how faithfully they handled what had been entrusted to them.

Many believers mistakenly think stewardship applies only to finances. However, biblical stewardship encompasses every area of life, including time, talents, spiritual gifts, opportunities, relationships, influence, and material possessions. Everything we have belongs to God, and He has entrusted these things to us for a season. One day, we will give an account of how we used them for His glory.

Faithfulness in stewardship is not measured by the amount we possess but by how well we manage what God has given us. The servant with two talents received the same commendation as the servant with five talents because both were faithful. God is not primarily looking for greatness, popularity, or impressive achievements; He is looking for faithfulness. As believers, we must learn to manage God's blessings responsibly and diligently.

1. GOD IS THE OWNER OF ALL THINGS
True stewardship begins with recognizing that everything belongs to God.

a) God Owns the Earth and Its Fullness (Psalm 24:1)
Everything we possess ultimately belongs to God and originates from Him.

b) We Are Managers, Not Owners (Matthew 25:14)
The servants managed the master's resources, illustrating our role as stewards of God's blessings.

c) Every Good Gift Comes from God (James 1:17)
Our abilities, opportunities, and possessions are gifts entrusted to us by the Lord.

d) Stewardship Requires Accountability (Romans 14:12)
Because God owns all things, we will one day answer to Him for our management of His resources.

Biblical Example: King David acknowledged that all the wealth used for God's house came from God and belonged to Him (1 Chronicles 29:14-16).

2. FAITHFULNESS BEGINS WITH SMALL THINGS
God often tests our faithfulness in little matters before entrusting us with greater responsibilities.

a) Small Responsibilities Matter (Luke 16:10)
Faithfulness in small assignments reveals a person's character and reliability.

b) Little Opportunities Lead to Greater Ones (Luke 16:10)
God often increases responsibility when He sees consistent faithfulness.

c) Neglecting Small Things Leads to Loss (Ecclesiastes 10:18)
Carelessness in minor matters can produce significant consequences.

d) God Notices Hidden Faithfulness (Matthew 6:4)
The Lord sees acts of obedience and service that others may overlook.

Biblical Example: David faithfully cared for his father's sheep before God elevated him to become king over Israel (1 Samuel 17:34-37).

3. GOD EXPECTS PRODUCTIVITY FROM HIS STEWARDS
Stewardship involves using entrusted resources to produce fruit and advance God's purposes.

a) Gifts Must Be Developed (2 Timothy 1:6)
Believers are responsible for cultivating and improving the gifts God has given them.

b) Opportunities Must Be Utilized (Ephesians 5:15-16)
Wise stewards recognize and maximize opportunities for kingdom impact.

c) Time Must Be Managed Wisely (Psalm 90:12)
Every day is a gift from God and should be used purposefully.

d) Fruitfulness Brings Glory to God (John 15:8)
Faithful stewardship produces results that honour the Lord.

Biblical Example: Joseph maximized every opportunity entrusted to him and became a blessing to nations through faithful stewardship (Genesis 41:39-41).

4. FEAR AND NEGLIGENCE DESTROY STEWARDSHIP
The unfaithful servant failed because he allowed fear and laziness to govern his actions.

a) Fear Prevents Action (Matthew 25:25)
Many people fail to fulfil their calling because they are afraid of failure or criticism.

b) Excuses Do Not Impress God (Matthew 25:24-25)
God expects obedience rather than explanations for neglect.

c) Neglected Gifts Become Unproductive (Proverbs 18:9)
Failure to use God's gifts leads to wasted potential.

d) Spiritual Laziness Brings Loss (Proverbs 24:30-34)
Negligence can result in missed opportunities and diminished effectiveness.

Biblical Example: The Israelites failed to enter the Promised Land because fear prevented them from trusting God's promise (Numbers 13:31-33; 14:1-4).

5. FAITHFUL STEWARDS WILL GIVE AN ACCOUNT
Every believer will one day stand before God to answer for their stewardship.

a) The Master Will Return (Matthew 25:19)
Christ's return will bring a time of evaluation and accountability.

b) Every Steward Must Give Account (Romans 14:12)
Each believer is personally responsible before God.

c) God Evaluates Faithfulness (1 Corinthians 4:2)
The Lord's standard is faithfulness rather than worldly success.

d) Eternal Rewards Are Determined by Stewardship (1 Corinthians 3:13-14)
Faithful service will be rewarded by God.

Biblical Example: Paul consistently lived with the awareness that he would one day stand before Christ and give account of his ministry (2 Timothy 4:7-8).

6. FAITHFUL STEWARDS RECEIVE DIVINE REWARDS
God honours and rewards those who faithfully manage what He entrusts to them.

a) Faithfulness Brings God's Commendation (Matthew 25:21)
The greatest reward is hearing the Lord say, "Well done."

b) Faithfulness Leads to Greater Responsibility (Matthew 25:21)
God entrusts more to those who prove reliable.

c) Faithfulness Produces Joy (Matthew 25:21)
There is deep satisfaction in pleasing the Lord through obedient service.

d) Eternal Rewards Await the Faithful (Revelation 22:12)
The rewards of faithful stewardship extend beyond this life into eternity.

Biblical Example: Daniel remained faithful throughout his life and was continually honoured by both God and men (Daniel 6:28).

CONCLUSION
Faithfulness in stewardship is one of the qualities God values most in His people. Everything we possess: our time, talents, resources, opportunities, and influence, has been entrusted to us by God. As stewards, we are called to manage these gifts wisely, diligently, and faithfully for His glory. The Lord does not judge us based on comparison with others but on our faithfulness in using what He has given us.

As we await Christ's return, we must reject fear, laziness, and complacency. Instead, we should strive to maximize every opportunity to serve God and bless others. One day, every steward will stand before the Master and give an account. May we live in such a way that we hear His glorious commendation: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
