INTRODUCTION:
Fire is a symbol of God's presence, power, and purifying nature. In Scripture, when God wants to reveal Himself in undeniable ways, He often comes in the form of fire. The story of Elijah on Mount Carmel showcases this dimension of God as the One who answers by fire — not just to consume sacrifice, but to turn hearts back to Him. When we call on this God, no power of darkness can withstand His fiery response.

Let us consider what it means for God to answer by fire and how we can align ourselves to experience His consuming presence.

1. GOD’S FIRE PROVES HIS SOVEREIGNTY

a) God is not in competition; He reigns supreme
The fire from heaven confirmed that the Lord alone is God and Baal is nothing (1 Kings 18:24).

b) God's power silences opposition
When fire came down, the prophets of Baal were silenced permanently (1 Kings 18:38-40).

c) God answers to prove His identity
Fire made it evident that Jehovah is the living God (1 Kings 18:39).

d) God's fire brings national revival
The hearts of Israel turned back to God when the fire fell (1 Kings 18:37).

Biblical Example: Elijah on Mount Carmel – The fire proved Jehovah as the true God (1 Kings 18:36-39)

2. GOD’S FIRE CONSUMES THE ENEMY’S WORKS

a) Fire represents divine judgment
The fire of God judges wickedness and destroys altars of iniquity (Psalm 97:3).

b) No strange fire can stand before God's fire
God's fire exposed and ended the deceit of Baal worshippers.

c) The fire consumes every hindrance to revival
Obstacles were removed when the fire came down (Hebrews 12:29).

d) God's fire exposes lies and exalts truth
Everything false was disgraced when God’s fire came (Jeremiah 23:29).

Biblical Example: Nadab and Abihu – consumed by strange fire due to rebellion (Leviticus 10:1-2)

3. GOD’S FIRE REFINES HIS PEOPLE

a) God uses fire to purify hearts
He refines us like gold and silver through His fire (Malachi 3:2-3).

b) The fire burns away spiritual dross
Everything that is not of God is removed in the fire (Isaiah 6:6-7).

c) The fire prepares us for divine service
Fire empowers and commissions (Acts 2:3-4).

d) The fire sanctifies the altar of our lives
Our lives become acceptable through divine fire.

Biblical Example: Isaiah’s cleansing by the burning coal (Isaiah 6:5-7)

4. GOD’S FIRE RESPONDS TO SACRIFICE AND PRAYER

a) The fire fell only after Elijah's prayer
Prayer activates divine fire (1 Kings 18:36-37).

b) Sacrifice must be in order before fire falls
Elijah rebuilt the altar before calling fire (1 Kings 18:30).

c) God honours a heart fully yielded
Surrendered lives attract divine fire (Romans 12:1).

d) Prayer without faith and sacrifice cannot call fire
The prophets of Baal prayed all day with no result.

Biblical Example: Solomon’s dedication prayer — fire came down (2 Chronicles 7:1)

CONCLUSION:
The God who answers by fire is still at work today. He wants to consume your doubts, destroy every strange altar around your life, refine you as gold, and empower you with His fire. The fire of God brings distinction and undeniable proof of His glory in our lives. Prepare the altar of your heart, live in holiness, and call upon Him in faith — the fire will surely fall!

2. God’s fire will consume every long-standing battle in your life.
3. The altar of your life will attract divine attention and power.
4. Strange fires around you shall be extinguished.
5. Your prayer life shall be set ablaze with fresh passion.
6. You are refined, purified, and empowered for destiny.
7. God’s fire will bring you into a new season of victory.
8. Your God will prove Himself beyond every doubt.
9. What mocked your God will soon glorify Him.
10. Your sacrifice and prayer will provoke divine intervention!

INTRODUCTION:
1 Kings 18 is one of the most dramatic and powerful chapters in Scripture. Israel was in deep apostasy, with the worship of Baal promoted by Ahab and Jezebel. The land had endured a prolonged drought—a divine judgment for national rebellion. Yet, in this moment of crisis, God raised Elijah to bring the nation to a place of decision.

This chapter climaxes at Mount Carmel, where Elijah boldly challenges the prophets of Baal and calls down fire from heaven. The confrontation was not merely a spectacle—it was a divine showdown to restore the hearts of the people to the one true God. This chapter reveals that God answers by fire to distinguish Himself, vindicate His servants, and consume the sacrifices of obedience.

Our generation needs such a revival—a call to abandon all forms of spiritual compromise and return to the Lord who answers by fire.

1. TRUE PROPHETS STAND WHEN OTHERS COMPROMISE
Elijah stood alone in a time when most prophets had gone into hiding or compromise.

a) “I alone am left a prophet of the Lord.” (1 Kings 18:22)
The true prophetic voice often walks a lonely path.

b) Elijah’s courage came from his consecration to God
He did not need numbers; he needed divine backing.

c) In every generation, God is searching for a man who will not bow to Baal
Compromise is easy, but consecration is costly.

d) Prophets who carry fire must first walk through isolation
God refines His vessels before He reveals them.

Biblical Example: Micaiah stood alone against 400 false prophets in Ahab’s court (1 Kings 22:13-14).

2. THE ALTAR MUST BE REPAIRED BEFORE THE FIRE CAN FALL
Before Elijah prayed, he took time to rebuild the broken altar of the Lord.

a) “He repaired the altar of the Lord that had been torn down.” (1 Kings 18:30)
Revival begins with restoration of worship and repentance.

b) A broken altar represents a broken relationship with God
When worship is abandoned, sin thrives.

c) Before we can see the fire of God, we must return to the place of sacrifice
There must be order, consecration, and surrender.

d) Rebuilding the altar was symbolic of Israel’s need to return to covenant
The fire doesn’t fall on disorder—it falls on divine alignment.

Biblical Example: Hezekiah reopened the temple and restored worship (2 Chronicles 29:3-11).

3. GOD RESPONDS TO SACRIFICE AND FERVENT PRAYER
Elijah offered a water-drenched sacrifice and prayed earnestly.

a) “Hear me, O Lord, that this people may know that You are God.” (1 Kings 18:37)
His prayer was not self-centred—it was for God’s glory.

b) Fire came not because of performance but because of prophetic alignment
No chanting or cutting—just a simple but powerful prayer.

c) God responds to faith-filled, purpose-driven prayer
The fire was God's approval of the sacrifice and His prophet.

d) Our generation needs altars that call down the fire of revival
Hearts must burn again with holy passion.

Biblical Example: The apostles prayed until the fire of the Holy Spirit came (Acts 2:1-4).

4. THE GOD WHO ANSWERS BY FIRE DEMANDS EXCLUSIVE WORSHIP
After the fire fell, the people cried out and the false prophets were judged.

a) “The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!” (1 Kings 18:39)
A true encounter with God brings repentance and reverence.

b) There can be no coexistence between Baal and Jehovah
God demands loyalty, not spiritual mixture.

c) Idolatry must be judged if revival must continue
The prophets of Baal were executed to purge the land.

d) Fire comes not just to display power, but to purify worship
God’s fire always consumes what is not of Him.

Biblical Example: Jesus cleansed the temple of buyers and sellers to restore true worship (John 2:13-17).

5. AFTER THE FIRE COMES THE RAIN
Following the fire, Elijah prayed again—and the long-awaited rain fell.

a) “There is the sound of abundance of rain.” (1 Kings 18:41)
Rain represents refreshing, restoration, and answered prayer.

b) The same God who brings fire also brings rain
He judges, but He also restores.

c) Divine restoration follows true repentance and alignment
After the people turned their hearts back to God, He reopened the heavens. The rain came as a sign that God's mercy had returned to the land, and the season of drought was over.

d) Persistent prayer is needed to birth visible results
Elijah bowed and prayed seven times until the cloud appeared. Miracles are often birthed through consistent, faith-filled intercession.

Biblical Example: Isaac prayed persistently for Rebekah, and God opened her womb (Genesis 25:21).

CONCLUSION:
1 Kings 18 is a divine call to revival. When a nation turns away from God, He raises voices like Elijah—bold, prayerful, and uncompromising. The God who answers by fire is still alive today. He is calling His people back to the altar, back to pure worship, and back to a place of total surrender.

Let us rebuild broken altars in our lives, families, and churches, and pray again until fire and rain descend. The world will only know that the Lord is God when they see His fire upon consecrated altars.

INTRODUCTION:
There are moments in life and ministry when we need more than words—we need God to show Himself. Elijah stood before the prophets of Baal and a nation drifting into idolatry, not with argument or debate, but with a demonstration of divine power. He called upon the God who answers by fire—and Heaven responded.

Fire in Scripture represents the presence, power, and purity of God. When God answers by fire, He silences doubt, reveals His glory, consumes every opposition, and brings His people back to repentance. Elijah’s prayer was short, but it came from a heart aligned with God. It was not eloquence that moved Heaven—it was covenant, passion, and faith.

In a generation where many hearts have grown cold and false gods seem to occupy the altar, we need a revival of fire again. This is the time for the Church and believers to call on the God who answers by fire, and to make room for His power to fall.

1. GOD’S FIRE CONFIRMS HIS PRESENCE

a) Fire represents God’s manifest presence (Exodus 3:2)
Moses encountered God through the fire in the burning bush — a holy ground moment.

b) When fire falls, God reveals Himself (1 Kings 18:38)
The fire from Heaven was a clear statement: “I am the Lord.”

c) Fire separates the true God from idols (1 Kings 18:24)
Only the living God answers by fire. Baal was silent.

d) The fire of God ends spiritual confusion (1 Kings 18:21)
When fire falls, people stop wavering between two opinions.

e) Biblical Example: God appeared to Israel in fire on Mount Sinai to confirm His covenant presence (Exodus 19:18).

2. GOD’S FIRE PURIFIES THE ALTAR

a) Before fire falls, the altar must be repaired (1 Kings 18:30)
Revival requires a restoration of prayer, worship, and obedience.

b) God will not consume a broken or polluted altar (Malachi 1:7–10)
He seeks honour in the place of sacrifice.

c) The fire tests what is laid on the altar (1 Corinthians 3:13)
Our motives and offerings are judged by the fire of God.

d) Only holy altars attract holy fire (Romans 12:1)
God responds to living sacrifices — lives surrendered to Him.

3. GOD’S FIRE PROVOKES REPENTANCE AND REVERENCE

a) Fire awakens dead consciences (1 Kings 18:39)
The people fell on their faces when fire revealed the true God.

b) Fire turns hearts back to God (1 Kings 18:37)
Elijah’s goal was not fire for show, but fire for revival.

c) Holy fire humbles human pride (Isaiah 6:5–7)
Isaiah saw the Lord in His glory and cried, “Woe is me!”

d) The fire of God confronts sin and brings cleansing (Malachi 3:2–3)
Like a refiner’s fire, it purifies God's people.

e) Biblical Example: On the Day of Pentecost, the tongues of fire transformed fearful disciples into bold witnesses (Acts 2:3–4).

4. GOD’S FIRE EMPOWERS FOR SUPERNATURAL IMPACT

a) The fire releases boldness and authority (Acts 4:31)
The early Church prayed, and fire-like power emboldened them.

b) Fire equips us to confront evil (Jeremiah 23:29)
God’s Word is like fire, breaking resistance and consuming falsehood.

c) God’s fire sets us apart for divine assignment (Leviticus 6:13)
The altar fire must never go out — it fuels the priesthood.

d) Fire leads to a harvest of souls (1 Kings 18:40)
After the fire fell, the prophets of Baal were judged and revival came.

e) Biblical Example: The fire in the bush that called Moses empowered him to confront Pharaoh and deliver Israel (Exodus 3:10).

CONCLUSION:
The God who answered Elijah by fire is still alive and powerful today. He is not a silent spectator but a consuming fire, eager to reveal Himself to a generation that will rebuild the altar and call upon His name in faith. When the Church returns to holiness, prayer, and bold faith, we will again see God answering by fire.

Let us not settle for powerless religion or dead altars. It is time to call down the fire of God again—fire that revives, fire that purifies, fire that empowers. If we, like Elijah, will align with God’s covenant, prepare the altar, and cry to Heaven, the fire will fall!

5. The Lord will turn the hearts of men back through you.
6. You are set ablaze for God’s purpose.
7. No opposition shall withstand the fire you carry.
8. You will not burn out—you will burn bright.
9. The fire of God will distinguish you in your generation.
10. From today, your voice will be as fire, and your words will break resistance.
