INTRODUCTION:
Life often presents us with circumstances where we feel surrounded by danger, slander, betrayal, or spiritual attacks — situations that resemble being in a den of lions. But there is a God who has the power to shut the mouth of every devouring force. He is not intimidated by the roars of the enemy, and His intervention brings peace and safety in the midst of chaos.
In the story of Daniel, we see how God intervened in an impossible situation. When evil men conspired against Daniel, and the king was forced to throw him into the lions’ den, God showed up in power. The lions lost their appetite because the Lion of the Tribe of Judah had stepped in. The God who shut the lions’ mouths in Daniel’s time is still alive and able to shut every threatening voice in your life today.
This message will explore how God shuts the mouth of every lion threatening your destiny — lions of fear, accusation, destruction, and opposition. When God steps in, He renders the enemy powerless and turns the battle in your favour.
1. GOD SHUTS THE MOUTH OF ACCUSERS
The enemy is called "the accuser of the brethren." But when God intervenes, He silences every tongue raised against you.
a) Divine justification silences false accusations
(Romans 8:33-34) – God justifies those He has chosen, making every accusation powerless.
b) God protects His people from conspiracies
(Isaiah 8:10) – They may take counsel together, but it will come to nothing, for God is with us.
c) God’s favour causes kings to defend you
(Proverbs 21:1) – He can turn the heart of kings in your favour, just like King Darius favoured Daniel.
d) Righteousness is your defence in the face of attack
(Isaiah 54:17) – No weapon formed against you shall prosper.
Biblical Example: Daniel in the lions’ den (Daniel 6:16-23) was falsely accused, but God shut the mouths of the lions and justified him.
2. GOD SHUTS THE MOUTH OF DESTRUCTION
Lions represent dangers that devour destinies, health, joy, peace, and progress. But God’s intervention preserves what the enemy seeks to destroy.
a) God preserves you from destruction
(Psalm 91:10-13) – You will tread upon the lion and the cobra without harm.
b) God delivers from deadly traps and hidden dangers
(Psalm 124:6-7) – The snare is broken, and you have escaped like a bird.
c) Divine protection is real and active
(Psalm 121:7) – The Lord will keep you from all harm and preserve your life.
d) God sends angels on assignment for His own
(Hebrews 1:14) – Angels are ministering spirits sent to serve believers.
Biblical Example: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:23-27) were preserved from destruction by divine intervention.
3. GOD SHUTS THE MOUTH OF FEAR
Fear is a paralysing lion that roars loudly to keep you from walking in faith. But God’s presence silences fear and strengthens your confidence.
a) Perfect love casts out fear
(1 John 4:18) – When you are filled with God’s love, fear loses its grip.
b) God has not given us a spirit of fear
(2 Timothy 1:7) – You carry power, love, and a sound mind, not timidity.
c) The presence of God gives courage
(Joshua 1:9) – Be strong and courageous, for the Lord your God is with you.
d) Faith in God conquers every fear
(Psalm 27:1) – The Lord is your light and salvation — whom shall you fear?
Biblical Example: David before Goliath (1 Samuel 17:32-50) – He silenced the lion of fear through his faith in God.
4. GOD SHUTS THE MOUTH OF THE DEVOURER
Satan seeks to steal, kill, and destroy. But God can rebuke every devourer in your life — financially, spiritually, or otherwise.
a) God rebukes the devourer for your sake
(Malachi 3:11) – Obedience activates divine protection from waste and loss.
b) God blesses your storehouse and fruitfulness
(Deuteronomy 28:8) – He commands blessings upon your efforts.
c) God restores what was lost or eaten
(Joel 2:25) – He restores the years the locust has eaten.
d) God’s abundance cancels scarcity
(Psalm 23:1) – The Lord is your Shepherd; you shall not want.
Biblical Example: The widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17:8-16) was preserved from famine through God's provision.
