INTRODUCTION:
Life is a battlefield, not just a playground. Spiritual warfare is real, and every child of God is enlisted in a war not of flesh and blood, but of powers and principalities. In the midst of life’s battles, there are moments when the strength of man fails, and divine intervention becomes the only hope. In such moments, God steps in to fight for His own.
The God we serve is not a passive observer; He is a mighty warrior who contends with those who contend with us. He takes it personally when the enemy rises against His children. He doesn't abandon His people to face battles alone—He goes ahead, stands beside, and even fights behind them.
From Genesis to Revelation, God has revealed Himself as a defender of His own. He is Jehovah Sabaoth—the Lord of Hosts, the Commander of Heaven's armies. When God arises, every enemy is scattered, and every stronghold is broken. Let us explore how this mighty God fights on behalf of His people.
1. GOD RISES TO DEFEND HIS OWN
When God fights for His people, no enemy can stand. He takes it upon Himself to shield, avenge, and vindicate His children. His defence is not limited by location, time, or human protocol.
a) GOD IS OUR SHIELD AND DEFENCE
He is a present help in trouble, surrounding His people with divine protection (Psalm 3:3).
b) GOD TAKES IT PERSONALLY WHEN HIS OWN ARE ATTACKED
Whoever touches a child of God touches the apple of His eye (Zechariah 2:8).
c) GOD SILENCES THE ENEMIES OF HIS PEOPLE
He puts to shame the plans of the wicked and silences their accusations (Psalm 31:17-18).
d) GOD FIGHTS SEEN AND UNSEEN BATTLES
Even battles we’re unaware of are being handled by the God who neither sleeps nor slumbers (Psalm 121:4).
BIBLICAL EXAMPLE: MOSES AND THE RED SEA (Exodus 14:13-14)
When Israel was trapped by Pharaoh’s army, God said, “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord,” and fought for them by parting the sea and drowning their enemies.
2. GOD FIGHTS THROUGH DIVINE STRATEGY
God doesn’t always use conventional means; sometimes He uses strange, divine strategies that confound the enemy and glorify His name.
a) GOD GIVES STRATEGIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR VICTORY
He may ask us to do unusual things like marching or singing to win battles (Joshua 6:2-5).
b) GOD USES THE WEAK TO SHAME THE STRONG
He deliberately chooses the unlikely to achieve great victories (1 Corinthians 1:27).
c) GOD CONFUSES THE ENEMIES' CAMP
He causes enemies to fight among themselves (2 Chronicles 20:22-23).
d) GOD’S METHODS ARE UNPREDICTABLE BUT POWERFUL
He may use fire, hail, hornets, or even earthquakes to fight (Exodus 9:23, Joshua 24:12).
BIBLICAL EXAMPLE: JEHOSHAPHAT’S PRAISE STRATEGY (2 Chronicles 20:20-24)
When Judah was outnumbered, God instructed them to appoint singers, and as they praised, God ambushed their enemies.
3. GOD ENSURES VICTORY WITH NO LOSS
When God fights for His own, the victory is total and complete. His children emerge stronger, preserved, and celebrated.
a) GOD’S FIGHT BRINGS LASTING PEACE
When God gives victory, sorrow does not follow (Proverbs 10:22).
b) GOD RESTORES WHAT WAS STOLEN IN THE BATTLE
He ensures compensation and restoration (Joel 2:25-26).
c) GOD MAKES YOU COME OUT WITHOUT A SCAR
You’ll pass through fire, but you won’t smell like smoke (Daniel 3:27).
d) GOD TURNS THE BATTLE INTO A TESTIMONY
The same thing that came to destroy you will be your platform of praise (Psalm 124:1-8).
BIBLICAL EXAMPLE: DAVID AND GOLIATH (1 Samuel 17:45-50)
David didn’t just survive the battle with Goliath, he became a national hero through divine help.
CONCLUSION:
Beloved, the battles of life are inevitable, but you are not alone in the fight. The God who created the heavens and the earth is also the God who defends His own. When He fights, He fights to win, and He never loses. He knows every enemy, every plot, and every weapon—and none of them prosper.
Stop trying to fight in your own strength. Trust God’s hand, follow His voice, and stand in faith. The battle is not yours—it is the Lord’s. And when God fights, victory is guaranteed!
