INTRODUCTION

Matthew chapter 2 records the journey of the wise men who travelled from the east seeking Jesus Christ, the newborn King. Their mission was not merely to observe Him but to worship Him. When they found Jesus, they bowed before Him and presented precious gifts as acts of honour and reverence.

Their response teaches believers that Jesus is worthy of worship, devotion, and surrender. True worship is more than songs or outward activities; it is the heartfelt acknowledgement of Christ’s lordship, greatness, and authority.

In a world filled with distractions and competing priorities, believers are called to worship Jesus sincerely and wholeheartedly. Worshipping the King of kings transforms hearts, deepens fellowship with God, and aligns lives with His divine purpose.

1. TRUE WORSHIP BEGINS WITH SEEKING JESUS

Worship flows from a sincere desire to know and honour Christ.

a) The wise men intentionally sought Jesus (Matthew 2:1-2)
Their long journey demonstrated hunger, determination, and deep reverence for the newborn King.

b) God rewards sincere seekers (Hebrews 11:6)
Those who diligently seek God encounter His presence and experience His reality.

c) Spiritual hunger leads to deeper fellowship (Psalm 42:1)
A heart that longs for God will pursue Him above worldly distractions.

d) Seeking Christ requires sacrifice (Luke 9:23)
Genuine worshippers are willing to give their time, energy, and devotion to follow Him.

Biblical Example:
Mary sat at Jesus’ feet because she desired His presence above everything else (Luke 10:39-42).

2. TRUE WORSHIP INVOLVES HUMILITY AND SURRENDER

Worship requires reverence before God.

a) The wise men bowed before Jesus (Matthew 2:11)
Their posture reflected honour, humility, and recognition of Christ’s authority.

b) Worship acknowledges God’s greatness (Psalm 95:6)
Bowing before God signifies surrender and reverence toward Him.

c) Pride hinders genuine worship (James 4:6)
God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

d) Christ must reign above all in our lives (Philippians 2:9-11)
Every believer must submit to the lordship and authority of Jesus Christ.

Biblical Example:
Isaiah fell in humility before God’s glory and holiness (Isaiah 6:1-5).

3. TRUE WORSHIP INVOLVES GIVING TO GOD

Worship is expressed through honour and sacrifice.

a) The wise men presented gifts (Matthew 2:11)
Their offerings reflected love, honour, and recognition of Jesus’ kingship.

b) Worship includes sacrificial devotion (Romans 12:1)
Believers are called to offer themselves fully to God as living sacrifices.

c) God values willing hearts (2 Corinthians 9:7)
True giving flows from love and gratitude rather than obligation.

d) Honour attracts divine favour (1 Samuel 2:30)
God honours those who sincerely honour Him.

Biblical Example:
The widow gave sacrificially out of her little and pleased God greatly (Mark 12:41-44).

4. WORSHIPPING JESUS BRINGS TRANSFORMATION

A true encounter with Christ changes lives.

a) The wise men departed another way (Matthew 2:12)
Their encounter with Jesus changed their direction and protected them from danger.

b) God’s presence transforms hearts (2 Corinthians 3:18)
Genuine worship changes believers into the image of Christ.

c) Worship strengthens spiritual sensitivity (John 4:23-24)
Worshippers become more aware of God’s voice and leading.

d) Worship produces joy and peace (Psalm 16:11)
In God’s presence there is fullness of joy and lasting peace.

Biblical Example:
Paul and Silas worshipped in prison, and God brought supernatural deliverance (Acts 16:25-26).

CONCLUSION

Matthew 2 teaches that Jesus Christ is worthy of worship because He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. The wise men demonstrated sincere worship through seeking Him, bowing before Him, and presenting their gifts.

Believers today are called to worship Jesus with pure hearts, humility, devotion, and surrender. True worship is not merely an activity but a lifestyle that honours God and transforms lives through His presence.
