INTRODUCTION

Matthew chapter 2 reveals the powerful hand of God’s preservation over Jesus Christ from infancy. Though Herod sought to destroy the child Jesus, God intervened through divine warnings and supernatural guidance to preserve His chosen Son.

Throughout Scripture, God consistently demonstrates His ability to protect those He has called and appointed for His purpose. The enemy may attack, oppose, or attempt destruction, but God remains faithful to preserve His people according to His will.

Believers today can find confidence in the truth that God is still a Preserver. Those who belong to Him are under His divine watchfulness, guidance, and protection. No plan of the enemy can overthrow the purpose of God for His chosen people.

1. GOD KNOWS THE DANGERS BEFORE THEY APPEAR

God sees what human eyes cannot see.

a) God warned Joseph ahead of danger (Matthew 2:13)
Before Herod carried out his evil plan, God already provided divine instruction for preservation.

b) God is never caught unaware (Psalm 121:4)
The Lord neither slumbers nor sleeps but continually watches over His people.

c) Divine foresight brings protection (Amos 3:7)
God reveals necessary guidance to preserve His children from destruction.

d) God directs those who trust Him (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Dependence on God positions believers for divine safety and wisdom.

Biblical Example:
Noah received warning about the coming flood before destruction arrived (Genesis 6:13-14).

2. GOD PRESERVES HIS PEOPLE THROUGH DIVINE GUIDANCE

Obedience to God’s direction brings safety.

a) Joseph obeyed immediately (Matthew 2:14)
His prompt obedience became the pathway through which Jesus was preserved.

b) God’s guidance may require unusual steps (Isaiah 55:8-9)
Fleeing to Egypt may not have made natural sense, but it fulfilled divine purpose.

c) Delayed obedience can expose people to danger (Jonah 1:1-3)
God’s instructions are often connected to preservation and destiny fulfilment.

d) God leads His people strategically (Exodus 13:21)
The Lord knows the safest and best path for His children.

Biblical Example:
Lot escaped destruction because he obeyed God’s instruction to leave Sodom quickly (Genesis 19:15-17).

3. GOD’S PRESERVATION DEFEATS THE PLANS OF THE ENEMY

No satanic agenda can stop God’s purpose.

a) Herod’s plan failed completely (Matthew 2:16-19)
Though he attempted to destroy Jesus, God’s preservation overruled every evil strategy.

b) No weapon formed against God’s people shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17)
The enemy may attack, but God guarantees ultimate victory for His own.

c) God protects destiny from destruction (Jeremiah 1:19)
Those chosen by God are under His divine covering and preservation.

d) God frustrates evil counsel (Psalm 33:10)
Human and satanic plans cannot overthrow God’s eternal purpose.

Biblical Example:
Pharaoh tried to destroy Moses, yet God preserved him for leadership and deliverance (Exodus 2:1-10).

4. GOD’S PRESERVATION SHOULD PRODUCE TRUST AND CONFIDENCE

Believers must live with assurance in God’s care.

a) God is a refuge for His people (Psalm 91:1-2)
Those who dwell in God’s presence enjoy divine security and peace.

b) Fear should not control believers (Isaiah 41:10)
God’s presence provides strength and confidence during difficult times.

c) Trust in God strengthens faith (2 Timothy 1:12)
Confidence in God’s preserving power produces spiritual stability.

d) Preservation is connected to divine purpose (Romans 8:28)
God keeps His people because His purpose for them must be fulfilled.

Biblical Example:
Paul survived storms, imprisonment, and attacks because God still had purpose for his life (Acts 27:22-25).

CONCLUSION

Matthew 2 reveals that God watches carefully over His chosen people. Though danger surrounded Jesus, divine preservation kept Him safe until His assignment was fulfilled.

Believers today can trust in the preserving power of God. No matter the opposition, attack, or uncertainty, God is able to protect, guide, and sustain those who belong to Him. When God preserves a person, no force of darkness can destroy their destiny.
