INTRODUCTION:
In a time when global systems are shaken, political structures fail, and cultures drift further from truth, it is comforting and powerful to know that our God is not just the God of individuals, families, or tribes—but the God of the nations. He rules and reigns over the entire earth, with wisdom, power, and purpose.
The nations may boast of their strength, economies, and armies, but the Bible declares that “The LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all” (Psalm 103:19). God is not absent from world affairs—He governs over them. Every nation is under His sovereign oversight.
Today, we will explore how God relates to the nations of the world, how He governs, judges, and blesses nations, and what role the Church must play in these last days in proclaiming His name across the earth.
1. GOD IS THE SOVEREIGN RULER OVER ALL NATIONS
God is not a tribal deity—He is King over the earth.
a) God Created and Appointed the Nations (Acts 17:26)
He determined their times and boundaries with eternal purpose.
b) Nations Are Like a Drop in the Bucket to God (Isaiah 40:15)
No nation is beyond His authority or judgment.
c) He Reigns in Righteousness Over the Earth (Psalm 96:10)
God governs with justice and equity.
d) He Raises and Removes Leaders According to His Will (Daniel 2:21)
Kings and presidents rise and fall at His command.
Biblical Example: Nebuchadnezzar’s pride led to his humbling until he acknowledged God as the true ruler of nations (Daniel 4:28-37).
2. GOD JUDGES AND BLESSES NATIONS ACCORDING TO THEIR WAYS
Nations are not only judged collectively in history but will also answer to God in eternity.
a) Righteousness Exalts a Nation (Proverbs 14:34)
God honours nations that honour Him.
b) Sin Brings Reproach and Judgement to Nations (Psalm 9:17)
Nations that forget God fall into destruction.
c) God Blesses Nations That Fear Him (Psalm 33:12)
His favour rests on those who seek His counsel.
d) National Repentance Can Avert Disaster (2 Chronicles 7:14)
God responds to national humility and prayer.
Biblical Example: Nineveh repented at Jonah’s preaching, and judgment was withheld (Jonah 3:4-10).
3. GOD USES NATIONS TO FULFIL HIS PURPOSES
No nation exists apart from God’s global agenda.
a) Nations Are Instruments in God's Hands (Isaiah 10:5-7)
He can use even ungodly nations to fulfil divine plans.
b) God Turns the Hearts of Kings Like Rivers (Proverbs 21:1)
He directs leaders to serve His will—even unknowingly.
c) Every Nation Will Ultimately Glorify God (Revelation 15:4)
All peoples and tongues will worship Him.
d) God’s Kingdom Will Supersede All Nations (Daniel 2:44)
Earthly kingdoms will fall, but God's kingdom endures forever.
Biblical Example: Cyrus of Persia was used by God to release the Jews, fulfilling prophecy (Isaiah 45:1-5).
4. GOD EXPECTS THE CHURCH TO DISCIPLE THE NATIONS
The Great Commission is not just about people—it’s about nations.
a) Go and Make Disciples of All Nations (Matthew 28:19)
We are called to teach nations God’s ways.
b) The Gospel Is the Hope for Every Nation (Romans 1:16)
It transforms cultures, governments, and generations.
c) The Church Is the Light in National Darkness (Matthew 5:14)
Believers must influence politics, education, media, and policy.
d) Nations Await the Manifestation of God’s Sons (Romans 8:19)
We are to rise and show forth His glory.
Biblical Example: The early Church turned cities and nations upside down through the gospel (Acts 17:6).
CONCLUSION:
Our God is not limited to churches, continents, or constitutions. He is the God of the nations, who reigns from eternity past to eternity future. He is watching the nations, weighing them in His balance, and inviting them to bow to His rule.
As the Church, we must intercede for the nations, proclaim Christ to the ends of the earth, and model God’s kingdom here on earth. Though the nations may rage, our God remains unshaken—He will have the final say over the destiny of every people and government.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, reign over our nation with Your justice and righteousness.
2. Father, raise godly leaders who will honour You in governance.
3. Let the gospel spread with power to every tribe, tongue, and nation.
4. We repent for the sins of our nation—show us mercy, O Lord.
5. Let Your kingdom come and Your will be done in our nation.
PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS:
1. Your nation shall be a vessel of God’s glory in this generation!
2. God will raise you as a light in dark places of national influence!
3. No power or principality shall overthrow the counsel of God over your land!
4. From your nation, revival will spring forth and touch the ends of the earth!
5. The Lord will show mercy to your land, and your people shall see His salvation!
