STANDING FOR TRUTH IN A PERVERTED GENERATION

STANDING FOR TRUTH IN A PERVERTED GENERATION

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Romans 1:18-32
Supporting Texts: Isaiah 5:20, 2 Timothy 3:1-5, Jude 1:3-7, John 17:17, Ephesians 5:11

INTRODUCTION:
We are living in an age where the line between right and wrong has become blurred. Truth is being suppressed, morality is being redefined, and godly values are being discarded. The spirit of the age aggressively promotes perversion, while those who uphold the truth are labelled intolerant or outdated. As believers, we are not called to blend in, but to boldly stand for the truth in love.

Romans 1:18-32 paints a clear picture of the consequences of rejecting God’s truth: humanity descends into moral confusion and depravity. We see this in our modern society where sin is celebrated and righteousness is ridiculed. From the rise of homosexuality and gender confusion to the legalisation of ungodly behaviours, it is clear we are living in a generation that mirrors Romans 1.

Yet, God always raises voices who will not bow to the pressure of cultural compromise. In a time when many are silent, God is looking for believers who will be bold, compassionate, and unshaken in declaring His truth without fear or apology.

1. UNDERSTANDING THE REJECTION OF TRUTH
We must first recognise what happens when society turns its back on God’s truth.

a) God’s Wrath Is Revealed Against Suppression of Truth (Romans 1:18)
People deliberately suppress truth in favour of comfort and sin. God’s displeasure is not against ignorance, but willful rebellion.

b) God Has Made Truth Known to All Through Creation (Romans 1:19-20)
Even nature declares God’s existence, yet people choose darkness over light.

c) Rejection of Truth Leads to a Reprobate Mind (Romans 1:28)
When truth is rejected repeatedly, God allows the mind to become twisted—justifying evil as good.

d) Rebellion Produces All Forms of Moral Decay (Romans 1:29-31)
The outcome is filled with envy, pride, disobedience, violence, and perversion.

Biblical Example: King Ahab and Jezebel led Israel into Baal worship and moral decay, but Elijah stood against them, declaring God’s truth boldly (1 Kings 18:17-18).

2. STANDING FOR TRUTH IN A HOSTILE CULTURE
Truth must be upheld, even when it is unpopular or dangerous.

a) Truth Is Not Relative—It Is Absolute (John 17:17)
God’s Word is the ultimate truth, not public opinion or cultural trends.

b) Stand with Boldness, Not Fear (2 Timothy 1:7-8)
Fear should not silence the voice of righteousness; God has given us boldness.

c) Do Not Compromise for Acceptance (Galatians 1:10)
Pleasing God must take precedence over pleasing people.

d) Expose the Works of Darkness Lovingly (Ephesians 5:11)
We must not be passive. Silence is agreement; truth must be spoken in love.

Biblical Example: John the Baptist confronted Herod’s immoral relationship, even though it cost him his life (Mark 6:17-18).

3. DEFENDING TRUTH WITH COMPASSION AND CONVICTION
Our stand must be both firm and filled with grace.

a) Defend the Faith Earnestly (Jude 1:3)
Contend for biblical truth in a world that’s rejecting it. Don’t retreat into silence.

b) Speak the Truth in Love (Ephesians 4:15)
We must confront sin without condemning the sinner. Compassion and conviction must work together.

c) Live as Salt and Light in a Dark World (Matthew 5:13-16)
Our lifestyle must reflect the truth we proclaim. Our character should convict without words.

d) Pray for Those Caught in Deception (2 Corinthians 4:4)
Many are blinded by the god of this world. Prayer opens the door to deliverance.

Biblical Example: Jesus and the Woman Caught in Adultery—He did not excuse her sin, but neither did He condemn her. He restored her and called her to holiness (John 8:1-11).

4. THE COST AND REWARD OF STANDING FOR TRUTH
Standing for truth will cost you, but it will also crown you.

a) Expect Opposition and Persecution (2 Timothy 3:12)
Everyone who lives godly will face hostility in a corrupt world.

b) God Honours Those Who Stand for Him (1 Samuel 2:30)
When you honour God with your life and lips, He honours you publicly.

c) Your Stand Encourages Others (Philippians 1:14)
Boldness is contagious. When you stand, others are inspired to do the same.

d) Truth Always Prevails in the End (Proverbs 12:19)
Lies have speed, but truth has endurance. God will vindicate those who stand for Him.

Biblical Example: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to the golden image and were thrown into the fire. God showed up and promoted them (Daniel 3:16-30).

CONCLUSION:
This is not the time for passive Christianity. It is a time for bold, Spirit-led believers to rise up and stand for truth in love. The world may legalise sin and redefine morals, but God’s standard does not change. We must lovingly speak the truth, live by the truth, and defend the truth, even at personal cost.

As society descends further into moral confusion, let your light shine brighter. Don’t compromise. Don’t blend in. Be a voice crying out in this wilderness, pointing people back to righteousness and repentance. You may be mocked, but heaven will back you. You may stand alone on earth, but you’ll stand approved before God.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, give me the boldness to stand for Your truth, even in a perverse generation.
2. Help me to walk in love while refusing to compromise righteousness.
3. Let my life reflect the light and truth of the Gospel daily.
4. Expose and uproot every form of compromise in my heart.
5. Strengthen the Church to be a voice of truth in this generation.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS:
1. You shall not be silenced by the spirit of this age!
2. God is empowering you to speak truth with grace and boldness.
3. Your life will shine as a beacon of righteousness in a dark world.
4. Every attack against your stand for truth shall turn into your promotion.
5. You will not bow to pressure; you will rise as a standard-bearer for God!
