THE GOD WHO SPEAKS THROUGH THE STORM

Main Text: Mark 4:35-41
"And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"

INTRODUCTION:
Life’s storms are inevitable. They come in different forms — unexpected challenges, sudden crises, or overwhelming situations that shake the very foundation of our faith. For the disciples in Mark 4, the storm was literal; for us today, it could be financial hardship, health battles, family problems, or spiritual warfare. Storms have a way of exposing our fears, stretching our faith, and revealing who we truly trust in.

In the midst of the storm, the disciples panicked and questioned if Jesus cared about their survival. It is the same question many believers ask in their moments of trouble: “Lord, do You not care that I am perishing?” But storms are not signs of God’s absence; sometimes they are platforms for God to reveal His power and speak directly to our situation. What makes the difference is whether we listen to His voice above the noise of the storm.

The God we serve is not only able to calm the storm; He can also speak in the storm. His voice can bring direction when confusion swirls, peace when chaos rages, and hope when despair threatens to sink us. The wind and waves still obey His command, and no storm is too fierce for Him to silence. When God speaks, the storm must bow.

1.  GOD IS PRESENT EVEN IN THE MIDST OF THE STORM

a) God never abandons His children (Deuteronomy 31:6)
Even when we cannot feel Him, His presence is with us in every battle.

b) The storm does not remove His authority (Psalm 29:10-11)
He rules over the flood and commands the seas.

c) Fear grows when we forget His presence (Isaiah 41:10)
Awareness of His nearness destroys fear.

d) God’s silence does not mean His absence (Habakkuk 2:3)
He may be silent for a moment, but He is still in control.

Biblical Example: Daniel in the lion’s den (Daniel 6:16-22) — God was present and delivered him despite the danger.

2.  GOD SPEAKS TO BRING PEACE IN THE STORM

a) God’s word has power over nature (Psalm 107:29)
He calms the storm to a whisper.

b) His peace surpasses human understanding (Philippians 4:7)
Even in trouble, we can rest in Him.

c) Peace is a product of His presence (John 14:27)
The world’s peace is temporary, but His is eternal.

d) God’s voice silences fear (Isaiah 41:13)
He holds our hand and tells us not to be afraid.

Biblical Example: Paul in the shipwreck (Acts 27:20-25) — God spoke to Paul and assured him of safety in the midst of the storm.

3.  GOD USES THE STORM TO TEACH AND TRANSFORM

a) Storms strengthen our faith (1 Peter 1:6-7)
They refine us like gold in the fire.

b) Storms reveal God’s power (Exodus 14:21-31)
His glory is best displayed in impossible situations.

c) Storms reposition us for destiny (Genesis 50:20)
What the enemy means for evil, God turns for good.

d) Storms prepare us for greater assignments (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
We gain strength to encourage others.

Biblical Example: Jonah (Jonah 1:4-17) — The storm redirected him back to God’s purpose.

CONCLUSION:
Every storm in life has an expiry date. The God who speaks through the storm is still speaking today, and when His voice is heard, the raging waves of trouble must be still. You may not control the wind or the waves, but you can trust the One who does. The same God who brought peace to the Sea of Galilee will bring peace to your life.

Do not let the noise of the storm drown out the voice of God. His word is your anchor, His presence your refuge, and His peace your portion. Hold on to Him, and you will see that not only can He calm the storm — He can also carry you safely to the other side.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Father, thank You for Your constant presence in my life.
2. Lord, speak peace into every storm I am facing today.
3. Every spirit of fear in my life, be destroyed in Jesus’ name.
4. Lord, teach me to trust You even when I don’t understand.
5. Father, let every raging storm in my family be silenced.
6. Lord, increase my faith in times of trouble.
7. Father, make me sensitive to Your voice in the midst of challenges.
8. Lord, use every storm in my life to prepare me for my destiny.
9. Father, turn my storm into a testimony of Your power.
10. Lord, carry me safely to the other side of every trial.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS:
1. I declare that every storm in your life is silenced in Jesus’ name!
2. The peace of God will fill your heart and mind from today!
3. You will hear the voice of God clearly above the noise of the enemy!
4. No storm will sink you; you will reach the other side in victory!
5. Every plan of the enemy to drown you in trouble is destroyed!
6. God’s presence will be your shield in every battle!
7. Your faith will not fail in the day of trouble!
8. You will see the hand of God turning your storm into a testimony!
9. Fear will no longer rule over you; you will walk in boldness!
10. From today, your life will be a living proof that God speaks in the storm!
