BREAKING INVISIBLE CURSES

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Galatians 3:13-14 – “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

Supporting Texts: Deuteronomy 28:15-68, Proverbs 26:2, Colossians 2:14-15, Numbers 23:23, Isaiah 10:27

INTRODUCTION:
Curses are spiritual forces that work to limit, hinder, or destroy a person’s destiny. While some curses are visible through obvious patterns of misfortune, others are invisible, working silently in the background but producing devastating effects over time. These invisible curses may manifest in persistent failures, recurring sicknesses, untimely deaths, or cycles of poverty and delay.

Invisible curses can be inherited through bloodlines, attracted through sinful lifestyles, or activated through occultic involvement and disobedience to God’s Word. They are like unseen chains binding a person to negative outcomes regardless of their effort or potential.

The good news is that Jesus Christ has paid the price to break every curse. Through His death on the cross, the legal hold of curses over our lives is destroyed, and we are empowered to walk in liberty and blessing. Today, by revelation and prayer, we can break every invisible curse operating in our lives and families.

1. UNDERSTANDING INVISIBLE CURSES
You cannot break what you do not understand. To deal with curses effectively, we must know how they work.

a) Invisible curses are spiritually hidden (Proverbs 26:2)
They are not always obvious, yet they produce real consequences.

b) Invisible curses often operate through patterns (Exodus 20:5)
Recurring problems across generations often indicate a curse.

c) Invisible curses have a legal basis (Deuteronomy 28:15)
Disobedience to God’s laws opens the door for curses.

d) Invisible curses can be inherited or self-inflicted (Lamentations 5:7, Isaiah 24:6)
They may come from our ancestors or from personal sin.

Biblical Example: Gehazi brought a generational curse of leprosy upon his descendants through greed and deceit (2 Kings 5:27).

2. SIGNS THAT INVISIBLE CURSES MAY BE AT WORK
Certain life experiences can point to the presence of a hidden curse.

a) Repeated cycles of failure (Haggai 1:6)
Working hard but seeing little or no result.

b) Unusual and recurring sicknesses (Deuteronomy 28:59-61)
Particularly when medical treatment cannot explain or cure it.

c) Chronic poverty and lack (Deuteronomy 28:17)
No matter the effort, wealth slips away.

d) Family patterns of tragedy (Jeremiah 31:29-30)
Premature deaths, divorce, or addiction repeating through generations.

Biblical Example: The family of Eli suffered death at a young age because of God’s pronouncement (1 Samuel 2:31-33).

3. THE BIBLICAL WAY TO BREAK INVISIBLE CURSES
Curses are broken by applying God’s Word, repentance, and prayer.

a) Repentance from all known sin (1 John 1:9)
Sin opens the door to curses; repentance closes it.

b) Renouncing the curse in Jesus’ name (Philippians 2:10)
Break the curse by verbally rejecting it and invoking Christ’s authority.

c) Applying the blood of Jesus (Revelation 12:11)
The blood cancels the legal hold of curses.

d) Replacing the curse with God’s blessing (Galatians 3:13-14)
Confess and claim God’s promises over your life.

Biblical Example: King Hezekiah broke the curse of death over his life by prayer and covenant renewal (Isaiah 38:1-5).

4. SPIRITUAL WARFARE AGAINST INVISIBLE CURSES
Breaking curses requires engaging in targeted prayer and spiritual warfare.

a) Fasting and prayer (Matthew 17:21)
Some curses require deep spiritual engagement to break.

b) Commanding deliverance in Jesus’ name (Mark 16:17)
Exercise spiritual authority over demonic forces enforcing the curse.

c) Destroying satanic altars (Judges 6:25-26)
Curses are often tied to evil covenants and altars.

d) Speaking prophetic blessings (Numbers 6:24-26)
Replace negative words with God’s decrees.

Biblical Example: Gideon destroyed his father’s altar to Baal before God used him to deliver Israel (Judges 6:25-32).

5. LIVING FREE FROM CURSES
It is not enough to break curses; we must maintain our freedom.

a) Walking in obedience to God (Deuteronomy 28:1-2)
Obedience ensures blessings continue.

b) Maintaining a prayerful life (Luke 18:1)
Prayer keeps the enemy from re-establishing strongholds.

c) Staying away from sin and occultic practices (1 Thessalonians 5:22)
Avoid anything that can reopen the door to curses.

d) Confessing God’s Word daily (Joshua 1:8)
Speak blessings and promises over your life.

Biblical Example: Joshua and the Israelites maintained their covenant with God to walk in victory after entering the Promised Land (Joshua 24:14-24).
