ANGELS ON ASSIGNMENT FOR MY PRESERVATION

God has provided spiritual protection for His people, and Scripture reveals that angels are ministering spirits sent to serve those who inherit salvation. This sermon explores God's use of angels in preservation, guidance, deliverance, and the fulfilment of His purposes. Believers are encouraged to trust God rather than angels, knowing that angels act according to God's command and authority.
INTRODUCTION
The Bible reveals that the visible world is not the only realm of existence. There is also a spiritual realm, and God has created angels who serve according to His purposes. Psalm 91:11 declares that God gives His angels charge concerning His people, while Hebrews 1:14 describes them as “ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation.” This gives us another reason to trust the preserving power of God.
Throughout Scripture, angels appeared at critical moments to protect, guide, strengthen, deliver, and assist God's servants. An angel shut the mouths of lions when Daniel was in the den. Angels helped Peter escape from prison. Angels strengthened Jesus after His temptation. Angels appeared to Joseph and Mary at significant moments surrounding the birth of Christ.
However, our faith must remain centred on God, not on angels. We do not worship angels, pray to angels, or command them according to our own desires. God is the One who sends them, and they act according to His will. Therefore, our confidence is this: the God who watches over us can deploy whatever means He chooses, including His angels to preserve us and accomplish His purpose.
1. GOD HAS PROVIDED ANGELS TO SERVE HIS PURPOSES
Angels are God's servants, not substitutes for God.
a) Angels Are Ministering Spirits (Hebrews 1:14)
Angels serve God's purposes in relation to those who belong to Him.
b) Angels Obey God's Word (Psalm 103:20)
Their activity is directed by God's command.
c) Angels Belong To God's Heavenly Host (Psalm 103:21)
They serve under the authority of the Almighty.
d) Angels Glorify God (Luke 2:13–14)
Their ministry ultimately points to the glory and purposes of God.
Biblical Example: The angels at Bethlehem (Luke 2:8–14). They announced the birth of Christ and directed attention to God's great salvation plan.
2. GOD CAN ASSIGN ANGELS FOR YOUR PRESERVATION
Divine preservation is ultimately God's work, and angels can be instruments through which He provides it.
a) Angels Can Guard God's People (Psalm 91:11)
God promises angelic ministry in the preservation of His people.
b) Angels Can Protect In Dangerous Situations (Psalm 34:7)
The angel of the Lord is described as encamping around those who fear Him.
c) Angels Can Deliver From Danger (Acts 12:7)
An angel helped Peter escape from prison.
d) Angels Can Carry Out God's Instructions (Exodus 23:20)
God sent an angel ahead of Israel to guide them.
Biblical Example: Daniel (Daniel 6:22). Daniel testified that God sent His angel and shut the mouths of the lions.
3. ANGELS CAN BE INVOLVED IN THE PRESERVATION OF YOUR JOURNEY
God can use His heavenly servants as part of His guidance and protection.
a) God Goes Before His People (Exodus 23:20)
God promised to send an angel ahead of Israel.
b) God Directs The Steps Of His People (Psalm 37:23)
The Lord establishes the steps of those who trust Him.
c) God Can Protect Travellers (Psalm 121:7-8)
The Lord watches over our going out and coming in.
d) God Can Intervene In Unexpected Situations (Acts 27:23-24)
An angel appeared to Paul with assurance during a dangerous voyage.
Biblical Example: Paul (Acts 27:21-25). In the middle of a violent storm, God sent an angel to assure Paul that his life and the lives of those travelling with him would be preserved.
4. ANGELS CAN BE INVOLVED IN DIVINE DELIVERANCE
God can intervene supernaturally when His people face overwhelming circumstances.
a) Angels Can Break Chains (Acts 12:7)
Peter's chains fell from his hands through God's intervention.
b) Angels Can Shut The Mouths Of Lions (Daniel 6:22)
God sent His angel to preserve Daniel.
c) Angels Can Defeat Hostile Forces (2 Kings 19:35)
God used an angel to bring judgment against the Assyrian army.
d) Angels Can Strengthen God's Servants (Luke 22:43)
An angel strengthened Jesus during His agony in Gethsemane.
Biblical Example: Peter (Acts 12:5-11). While the Church prayed, God sent an angel to bring Peter out of prison.
5. GOD CAN USE ANGELS TO ADVANCE YOUR DIVINE PURPOSE
Angelic activity is sometimes connected with God's larger purpose for a person's life.
a) Angels Can Bring Divine Messages (Luke 1:26-38)
Gabriel brought Mary God's message concerning the birth of Jesus.
b) Angels Can Provide Direction (Matthew 2:13)
An angel warned Joseph to take Jesus and Mary to Egypt.
c) Angels Can Assist God's Servants (Hebrews 1:14)
Their ministry serves God's purposes for those who belong to Him.
d) Angels Can Participate In Divine Assignment (Acts 8:26)
An angel directed Philip towards a significant divine appointment.
Biblical Example: Philip (Acts 8:26-39). God's direction brought Philip to the Ethiopian official, resulting in the proclamation of the Gospel.
6. TRUST GOD, NOT ANGELS
Our worship and dependence must always remain centred on God.
a) Worship God Alone (Matthew 4:10)
God alone deserves our worship.
b) Do Not Worship Angels (Revelation 22:8-9)
The angel instructed John to worship God rather than the angel.
c) Christ Is Above Angels (Hebrews 1:4-6)
Jesus has a position far above all angelic beings.
d) Put Your Confidence In God (Psalm 20:7)
Our ultimate confidence must never shift from God to created beings.
Biblical Example: John (Revelation 22:8-9). When John attempted to worship an angel, the angel immediately redirected his worship to God.
7. LIVE UNDER GOD'S PRESERVING COVERING
The promise of angelic protection should strengthen our confidence in God and encourage holy living.
a) Dwell In God's Presence (Psalm 91:1)
Divine preservation is connected with abiding in God.
b) Walk In God's Ways (Psalm 91:11)
The angels are sent to keep God's people in their ways.
c) Trust God's Faithfulness (2 Thessalonians 3:3)
The Lord Himself is faithful to establish and preserve His people.
d) Give God The Glory (Psalm 115:1)
Every divine intervention should ultimately result in glory being given to God.
Biblical Example: David (Psalm 34:7). David recognised God's protective care and praised the Lord rather than glorifying the instrument of protection.
CONCLUSION
The ministry of angels reminds us that God's provision is greater than what our natural eyes can see. There are dimensions of God's activity that we may never fully understand. When Scripture says that God gives His angels charge concerning His people, we are reminded that the Lord is actively involved in preserving those who belong to Him. He can use angels, people, circumstances, wisdom, divine direction, and countless other means to accomplish His purpose.
Therefore, do not live in fear. Do not worship angels or attempt to command them according to personal desires. Instead, trust the God who commands them. Dwell in His presence, walk in His ways, pray continually, exercise wisdom, and commit your life, family, journeys, and destiny into His hands. May the Lord deploy His preserving power according to His will, and may His angels serve His purposes concerning you as you remain under the covering of the Almighty.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, thank You for Your mighty power and for every provision You have made for my preservation, in Jesus name.
2. Lord, let Your angels watch over me and my household according to Your perfect will, in Jesus name.
3. Father, preserve my life, family, ministry, and destiny from every evil, in Jesus name.
4. Lord, send Your divine protection ahead of me in every journey and assignment, in Jesus name.
5. Father, deliver me from every danger, trap, accident, and evil scheme that may arise against me, in Jesus name.
6. Lord, give me divine direction whenever I face decisions that affect my destiny, in Jesus name.
7. Father, let every spiritual and physical chain working against Your purpose for my life be broken, in Jesus name.
8. Lord, give me grace to remain in Your presence, walk in obedience, and trust You completely, in Jesus name.
9. Father, let every divine provision necessary for the fulfilment of my assignment be released according to Your will, in Jesus name.
10. Lord, preserve me and my household until we fulfil Your purpose and declare Your goodness, in Jesus name.
PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS
1. The Lord shall command His angels concerning you according to His perfect will.
2. Divine protection shall accompany you wherever you go.
3. Your home and household shall remain under God's preserving hand.
4. The Lord shall go before you and make a way where you need His direction.
5. Every danger assigned against your life shall be frustrated according to God's purpose.
6. The Lord shall preserve you in every journey and assignment.
7. Every chain hindering the fulfilment of God's purpose for your life shall be broken.
8. You shall receive divine wisdom and discernment to walk safely through every season.
9. You shall fulfil your God-given assignment and live to testify of His faithfulness.
10. Therefore, I declare by faith: THE LORD IS MY PRESERVER; HIS ANGELS ARE HIS SERVANTS, AND THEY SHALL SERVE HIS PURPOSE CONCERNING ME ACCORDING TO HIS WILL. I AM PRESERVED, MY FAMILY IS PRESERVED, MY JOURNEYS ARE PRESERVED, AND MY DESTINY SHALL BE FULFILLED FOR THE GLORY OF GOD, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
