Description: This message reveals how God’s honour and dignity are bestowed and sustained in the lives of His people.
INTRODUCTION:
Divine honour and dignity are not acquired through human effort alone, but they are conferred by God upon those who live in obedience, integrity, and reverence for Him. Honour is the recognition of value, and dignity is the state of being esteemed and respected. Many desire recognition and position, but without God’s impartation, human accolade is temporary and hollow.
Throughout Scripture, God elevates those who walk in His ways, demonstrating that divine honour is a reflection of God’s approval and favour. Honour and dignity are intertwined; one cannot fully exist without the other. They manifest in favour, respect, authority, and influence over life circumstances and people.
As we explore this topic, you will understand how to honour God and attain the dignity He promises, positioning yourself for supernatural elevation, influence, and lasting legacy.
1. WHAT IS DIVINE HONOUR?
Divine honour is the esteem, recognition, and elevation that God bestows upon His people because of their faithfulness, integrity, and obedience.
a) Honour is a reflection of God’s approval (1 Samuel 2:30)
Those who please God receive His honour in ways that surpass human recognition.
b) Honour produces influence and authority (Proverbs 3:35)
The humble are lifted, and their counsel carries weight among men and in the spiritual realm.
c) Honour brings divine protection (Psalm 91:14-16)
Those whom God honours are shielded from attacks that target their destiny.
d) Honour is linked to obedience (Exodus 19:5-6)
God honours those who obey His voice and follow His commands.
Biblical Example:
Daniel and his friends were honoured by God because of their obedience, resulting in favour and influence in a foreign kingdom (Daniel 1:17-20).
2. WHAT IS DIGNITY?
Dignity is the intrinsic value, respect, and elevated status that comes from God’s recognition of a person’s character and identity in Him.
a) Dignity is rooted in God’s creation of man (Psalm 8:5-6)
Humans are crowned with glory and honour, which reflects their God-given worth.
b) Dignity commands respect from others (Proverbs 22:1)
When dignity is evident, people treat the individual with reverence and esteem.
c) Dignity is maintained by integrity (1 Peter 2:12)
A life of righteousness and uprightness preserves honourable recognition.
d) Dignity enables leadership (Exodus 19:6)
Those who carry dignity become vessels through which God’s purposes are accomplished.
Biblical Example:
Joseph maintained his dignity in Potiphar’s house, in prison, and in Pharaoh’s court, which eventually elevated him to rulership over Egypt (Genesis 41:39-44).
3. HOW DO WE HONOUR?
Honour is an active expression, not a passive state. To receive divine honour, one must first honour God, His Word, and His servants.
a) Honour God through obedience (Deuteronomy 28:1-2)
Walking in God’s commandments invites His favour and recognition.
b) Honour His Word (Psalm 119:30-32)
Those who respect and apply God’s Word position themselves for honour.
c) Honour His ministers and leaders (1 Timothy 5:17-18)
Recognising those God uses demonstrates respect for God Himself.
d) Honour others through humility and service (Romans 12:10)
Those who elevate others will themselves be lifted by God.
Biblical Example:
Elijah honoured God’s servanthood by respecting the widow of Zarephath, which brought miraculous provision (1 Kings 17:9-16).
4. HOW DO WE ATTAIN DIVINE HONOUR AND DIGNITY?
Attaining divine honour and dignity requires intentional alignment with God, obedience, and moral excellence.
a) Submit to God’s authority (James 4:7-10)
Submission brings divine favour and elevation.
b) Walk in integrity and righteousness (Proverbs 10:9)
Honour and dignity are preserved by living a blameless life before God and men.
c) Serve faithfully in every assignment (Colossians 3:23-24)
God elevates those who are faithful in small and large matters alike.
d) Honour God in your speech and conduct (Psalm 15:1-5)
Respectful, upright behaviour attracts God’s recognition and supernatural esteem.
Biblical Example:
Daniel’s unwavering integrity, prayer life, and obedience led to God granting him exceptional honour and dignity in Babylon (Daniel 6:1-3).
