INTRODUCTION:
There is a unique blessing that comes from engaging in the work of God. From the building of the Tabernacle in the wilderness to the expansion of the early Church, God has always invited His people to partner with Him in His redemptive purposes. Participating in God's work is not merely a duty—it is a divine privilege that carries eternal rewards.
God does not need anyone’s help to accomplish His purpose, yet in His grace, He calls and uses men and women to build, serve, give, and go. Each act of service to God, no matter how small, is seen and rewarded by Him.
As we look at the blessings attached to working for God, we are reminded that our time, talents, and resources, when yielded to God’s use, bring multiplied results—both in time and in eternity.
1. PARTICIPATING IN GOD’S WORK BRINGS DIVINE FAVOUR
When we commit to God’s assignment, He releases His favour upon us.
a) Favour Flows to Those Who Build for God (Psalm 102:13-16)
God arises in mercy when Zion is being built—those who build enjoy divine attention.
b) Giving to God’s Work Provokes Divine Supply (Philippians 4:17-19)
Paul assured the Philippians that their giving would result in God meeting all their needs.
c) Kingdom First Brings Divine Addition (Matthew 6:33)
Putting God’s Kingdom first attracts every other blessing.
d) God’s Work Opens the Door for Supernatural Help (Ezra 1:1-6)
God stirred people’s hearts to support the rebuilding of His temple and they received help.
Biblical Example: The Shunammite woman who made room for Elisha was later blessed with a child and restoration (2 Kings 4:8-17; 8:1-6).
2. PARTICIPATING IN GOD’S WORK BRINGS REWARD NOW AND IN ETERNITY
Nothing done for God is ever in vain.
a) God Is Not Unrighteous to Forget (Hebrews 6:10)
Every labour of love done for His name is recorded and remembered.
b) Faithfulness Produces Abundant Harvest (Galatians 6:9)
Those who don’t give up in service will reap in due season.
c) God Rewards Openly What Is Done Secretly (Matthew 6:4)
Hidden service often leads to public honour.
d) Eternal Rewards Await the Faithful (1 Corinthians 3:13-15)
Our works will be tested, and faithful service will receive eternal crowns.
Biblical Example: Cornelius’ prayers and almsgiving came up as a memorial before God (Acts 10:1-4), leading to salvation for his household.
3. PARTICIPATING IN GOD’S WORK DEEPENS OUR INTIMACY WITH HIM
As we serve, we know Him more and grow in our relationship with Him.
a) Service Positions You for Divine Encounter (Exodus 3:1-4)
Moses met God while attending to sheep—service brought revelation.
b) Closeness Grows in the Place of Obedience (John 14:21)
Those who obey and serve God experience deeper manifestations of His love.
c) Serving Brings Clarity of Divine Purpose (Acts 13:2)
As they ministered to the Lord, the Holy Spirit gave Paul and Barnabas divine direction.
d) Intimacy with God Grows in Active Service (Psalm 25:14)
God reveals His covenant to those who fear and walk closely with Him.
Biblical Example: Samuel heard God’s voice while serving in the temple (1 Samuel 3:1-10).
4. PARTICIPATING IN GOD’S WORK BRINGS FAMILY BLESSINGS
What you do for God affects your household positively.
a) God Blesses the Household of His Servants (2 Samuel 6:11-12)
The ark in Obed-Edom’s house brought blessing to his entire family.
b) Generational Blessings Are Activated by Kingdom Service (Genesis 18:17-19)
Abraham’s obedience was a gateway for his children to walk in God's blessings.
c) Children of Faithful Workers Are Preserved (Psalm 112:1-2)
The generation of the upright shall be blessed.
d) Divine Covering Is Guaranteed for Families of God’s Servants (Exodus 1:20-21)
Because the Hebrew midwives feared God, He blessed their families.
Biblical Example: Lydia's household was saved and baptised after she opened her home for God’s work (Acts 16:14-15).
5. PARTICIPATING IN GOD’S WORK TRANSFORMS COMMUNITIES AND NATIONS
The impact of Kingdom service goes beyond individuals to affect society.
a) A Nation Can Be Healed Through Obedience and Prayer (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Repentance and service invite national restoration.
b) God Uses Faithful Men to Influence Entire Cities (Acts 19:10-12)
Paul’s consistent labour led to widespread revival in Ephesus.
c) God’s Work is a Light to the World (Matthew 5:16)
Good works glorify the Father and influence others.
d) Kingdom Work Raises Godly Structures in a Decaying World (Nehemiah 2:18-20)
Nehemiah's burden rebuilt Jerusalem and revived the people.
Biblical Example: Joseph’s faithfulness in service brought preservation to nations during famine (Genesis 41:38–57).
CONCLUSION:
Participating in God’s work is a divine privilege with incomparable rewards. It opens the heavens over individuals, families, and entire communities. As believers, we must not sit idle while God’s agenda is unfolding—we are called to pray, give, serve, build, and labour with all diligence. God never owes any man; He is a faithful Rewarder.
