GOD OF REDEMPTION

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Isaiah 44:22

Supporting Texts: Ephesians 1:7, Colossians 1:13-14, Titus 2:14, Psalm 130:7-8, 1 Peter 1:18-19

INTRODUCTION:
The word “redemption” echoes throughout the Scriptures as the heartbeat of God’s relationship with humanity. From the Garden of Eden to the Cross of Calvary, God’s redemptive purpose has remained constant—bringing back His people from slavery, sin, and separation to freedom, forgiveness, and fellowship with Him.

To redeem is to buy back, to restore what was lost, and to liberate what was bound. Our God is the God of Redemption, and He delights in turning brokenness into beauty, darkness into light, and bondage into liberty. He does not abandon the lost; He seeks and saves them. He is not repelled by failure; He restores with love and purpose.

In this sermon, we will explore the redemptive nature of God, the price He paid for our salvation, and how we can live daily in the reality of His redeeming grace.

1. GOD INITIATES REDEMPTION OUT OF LOVE
Redemption is not man’s idea—it originates from the loving heart of God.

a) God's Redemption Began in Eden (Genesis 3:15)
Even after the fall, God promised the seed that would crush the serpent.

b) God So Loved the World He Gave His Son (John 3:16)
Redemption is God’s response to human helplessness.

c) Love Is the Driving Force Behind Redemption (Romans 5:8)
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

d) God Seeks the Lost to Redeem Them (Luke 19:10)
Jesus came specifically to redeem the lost and restore them.

Biblical Example: Hosea and Gomer—Hosea’s love for his unfaithful wife reflects God’s undying love for His people (Hosea 3:1-5).

2. REDEMPTION IS THROUGH THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST
The price of our redemption is the blood of the spotless Lamb.

a) We Are Redeemed by His Blood (Ephesians 1:7)
Forgiveness and grace come through the blood of Jesus.

b) Not Redeemed by Silver or Gold (1 Peter 1:18-19)
The value of our redemption is far above material wealth.

c) Jesus Paid the Price for Our Freedom (1 Corinthians 6:20)
We were bought with a price; we now belong to Him.

d) The Cross Is the Centre of Redemption (Colossians 1:20)
Peace was made through the blood shed on the cross.

Biblical Example: The Passover in Egypt—The blood on the doorposts redeemed Israel from death (Exodus 12:1-30).

3. REDEMPTION DELIVERS US FROM THE POWER OF SIN AND DEATH
Redemption is not only forgiveness—it is deliverance from bondage.

a) We Are No Longer Slaves to Sin (Romans 6:6-7)
The old man is crucified; we now walk in newness of life.

b) Christ Has Delivered Us from Darkness (Colossians 1:13-14)
We have been transferred into the Kingdom of His Son.

c) The Redeemed Are Set Free Indeed (John 8:36)
Freedom in Christ is total and lasting.

d) Redemption Brings Victory Over the Enemy (Hebrews 2:14-15)
Through His death, Jesus destroyed the power of the devil.

Biblical Example: The Israelites' deliverance from Egypt—A physical redemption that mirrors our spiritual liberation (Exodus 14:30-31).

4. REDEMPTION RESTORES OUR RELATIONSHIP AND PURPOSE
God redeems not just to rescue, but to restore and recommission.

a) We Become Children of God (Galatians 4:4-7)
Redemption brings adoption—we are sons and heirs.

b) We Are Redeemed for Good Works (Titus 2:14)
God redeems us to live holy and purposeful lives.

c) Redemption Restores Fellowship with God (Hebrews 10:19-22)
Through redemption, we can approach God confidently.

d) Redeemed to Reflect God's Glory (Isaiah 43:1,7)
We are created and redeemed for His praise and glory.

Biblical Example: Peter’s restoration after denying Jesus—He was redeemed and recommissioned to feed God’s sheep (John 21:15-19).

CONCLUSION:
The God of Redemption is calling every soul to freedom, every life to purpose, and every heart to intimacy with Him. He doesn’t just pardon—He restores. He doesn’t just forgive—He empowers. No matter how far you’ve wandered or how broken you feel, His redemption is real, available, and eternal.
