INTRODUCTION:
God is not a man that He should lie, neither is He the son of man that He should change His mind. From Genesis to Revelation, we see God as a covenant-keeping Father whose promises are sure, steadfast, and eternal. He is the God of promise—every word He speaks is a binding declaration that will surely come to pass.
We live in a world full of broken promises—by governments, leaders, friends, and even family. But God’s promises never fail. His Word is not empty talk but a guarantee of His faithfulness. When God gives a promise, He also has the power and intention to fulfil it, no matter how long it takes.
This sermon will remind us that the God of the Bible is still the same today. He is dependable, trustworthy, and faithful to every promise. As we study, may our faith be strengthened, our hope renewed, and our hearts anchored in the unchanging promises of God.
1. GOD'S PROMISES ARE TRUE AND UNFAILING
God’s promises are rooted in His nature and character—He cannot lie.
a) God Cannot Lie or Fail (Numbers 23:19)
What He says, He will do. What He has spoken, He will make good.
b) His Promises Are Yes and Amen (2 Corinthians 1:20)
Every promise in Christ is guaranteed and sealed by the Spirit.
c) God Watches Over His Word to Perform It (Jeremiah 1:12)
He is actively ensuring that His promises are fulfilled in our lives.
d) His Word Is Forever Settled in Heaven (Psalm 119:89)
God’s promises are not subject to time or human circumstances.
Biblical Example: Abraham believed God’s promise of a son, even when it seemed impossible—God fulfilled it in due time (Genesis 21:1-3).
2. GOD'S PROMISES REQUIRE OUR FAITH AND PATIENCE
While God’s promises are sure, they require faith and endurance to obtain.
a) Faith Activates the Promise (Hebrews 11:6)
Without faith, it is impossible to receive or please God.
b) Patience Secures the Fulfilment (Hebrews 6:12)
We inherit the promises through faith and patience.
c) Doubt and Fear Delay the Manifestation (James 1:6-7)
A double-minded person cannot expect to receive from God.
d) We Must Stand on the Word Without Wavering (Romans 4:20-21)
Like Abraham, we must be fully persuaded that God is able.
Biblical Example: Joseph held on to God’s dream despite betrayal and prison—eventually, the promise came to pass (Genesis 41:41-44).
3. GOD REMEMBERS AND FULFILS HIS PROMISES IN HIS TIME
God is never late—He works with divine timing and precision.
a) God Makes Everything Beautiful in His Time (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
The timing of God’s promise may differ from our own, but it is perfect.
b) Delay Is Not Denial (Habakkuk 2:3)
Though the vision tarries, wait for it—it will surely come.
c) God Keeps His Covenant from Generation to Generation (Deuteronomy 7:9)
His promises outlive men and pass on to descendants.
d) God’s Promises Are Backed by His Oath (Hebrews 6:17-18)
He has confirmed His promises with an unchangeable oath.
Biblical Example: Israel’s deliverance from Egypt was according to God's promise to Abraham over 400 years earlier (Exodus 12:40-42).
4. GOD’S PROMISES COVER EVERY AREA OF OUR LIVES
There is no part of our lives where God has not made provision by promise.
a) Promises of Salvation (Romans 10:9-10)
Whoever believes in Christ shall be saved.
b) Promises of Healing and Health (Isaiah 53:5, 3 John 2)
By His stripes, we are healed—He desires our wholeness.
c) Promises of Provision (Philippians 4:19)
God shall supply all your needs according to His riches.
d) Promises of Protection and Peace (Psalm 91:1-7, Isaiah 26:3)
He will keep us safe and give us peace in troubled times.
Biblical Example: The widow of Zarephath experienced supernatural provision during famine—according to God’s word (1 Kings 17:13-16).
CONCLUSION:
The God we serve is not only a promise-maker; He is a promise-keeper. His word cannot fail. If He said it, He will do it. No matter how long it takes, keep holding on. Faith may be tested, but the end will speak of God's faithfulness. Whether you are waiting for healing, provision, deliverance, or restoration—know that the God of promise is working behind the scenes to bring it to pass.
Keep believing. Keep standing. Keep trusting. You will testify because the God of promise never fails.
