Description: Busyness may drain your strength, but focus secures your destiny in Christ.

INTRODUCTION:
In our world today, many are consumed by endless activities, responsibilities, and distractions. People equate busyness with progress, yet busyness without focus often leads to frustration and emptiness. The Scriptures remind us that what truly matters is not how many things we do, but whether we are pursuing the one thing needful.

Martha was distracted with much serving, while Mary sat at the feet of Jesus to receive life-transforming words. Jesus commended Mary’s focus, not Martha’s busyness. This lesson reveals to us that true success is not found in doing many things, but in doing the right things with clarity and spiritual focus.

Believers must learn to prioritise spiritual focus over unnecessary busyness. The devil often distracts men with activities so they miss divine opportunities. But when we set our eyes on Christ and His Kingdom, we align with God’s plan and secure lasting rewards.

1. BUSYNESS CAN DISTRACT YOU FROM WHAT MATTERS MOST
When we are overly busy, we may miss the presence, voice, and direction of God.

a) Busyness steals intimacy with God (Luke 10:41) – Martha’s service was good, but she missed the better portion of being with Christ.

b) Busyness makes you anxious (Philippians 4:6) – A restless heart cannot receive God’s peace.

c) Busyness shifts focus from eternal things (Colossians 3:2) – When activities dominate your life, your spiritual gaze is lost.

d) Busyness can become idolatry (Exodus 20:3) – Anything that takes priority over God becomes a god.

Biblical Example: The children of Israel were so busy making bricks in Egypt that they had no time for worship until God delivered them (Exodus 5:7-9).

2. FOCUS BRINGS CLARITY AND DIRECTION
Focus empowers you to discern what is necessary and eliminates distractions.

a) Focus sharpens your vision (Proverbs 4:25) – Keeping your eyes straight ahead avoids unnecessary detours.

b) Focus prioritises the Kingdom (Matthew 6:33) – When we seek God first, other things align.

c) Focus protects against confusion (James 1:8) – A double-minded person lacks stability, but focus brings direction.

d) Focus helps in decision-making (Psalm 16:8) – When the Lord is set before you, you will not be moved.

Biblical Example: Nehemiah refused distractions and remained focused on rebuilding the wall despite opposition (Nehemiah 6:3).

3. BUSYNESS PRODUCES WEARINESS, BUT FOCUS BRINGS STRENGTH
Many collapse under busyness, but focus channels energy into purpose.

a) Busyness drains strength (Ecclesiastes 1:8) – Endless activities leave a person exhausted but unfulfilled.

b) Focus renews strength (Isaiah 40:31) – Those who wait on the Lord rise higher and stronger.

c) Busyness breeds frustration (Haggai 1:6) – Labouring without focus results in emptiness.

d) Focus aligns with God’s strength (Philippians 4:13) – Focusing on Christ allows His strength to flow through you.

Biblical Example: Elijah regained his strength when he focused on God’s instruction rather than his weariness (1 Kings 19:4-8).

4. FOCUS GUARANTEES FRUITFULNESS AND FULFILMENT
Busyness makes you scatter energy, but focus ensures lasting impact.

a) Focus leads to excellence (Daniel 6:3-4) – Daniel distinguished himself by staying devoted to God.

b) Focus makes destiny achievable (Philippians 3:13-14) – Paul pressed toward the mark without being distracted.

c) Focus produces fruitfulness (John 15:5) – Abiding in Christ guarantees fruit.

d) Focus ensures eternal reward (1 Corinthians 9:24-25) – A focused runner wins the prize.

Biblical Example: Joseph remained focused on God’s vision despite trials, and he fulfilled his destiny in Egypt (Genesis 39:9, Genesis 41:41-43).

CONCLUSION:
Busyness without focus is like running in circles; lots of effort but no progress. True greatness and fulfilment come when we refuse to be distracted by the noise of life and instead fix our hearts on Christ, His Word, and His calling for us.

Choose to be like Mary, who sat at Jesus’ feet, rather than Martha, who was overwhelmed with activity. In this season, God is calling His people to deep focus on His presence, His purpose, and His power.
