THE REALITIES OF LACK OF SPIRITUAL FOUNDATION

THE REALITIES OF LACK OF SPIRITUAL FOUNDATION

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Matthew 7:24-27

Supporting Texts: 1 Corinthians 3:10-11, Psalm 11:3, Luke 6:47-49, Ephesians 2:19-22

INTRODUCTION:
The foundation of any structure determines its stability and durability. This truth also applies to our spiritual lives. Many Christians appear strong on the surface but have no rooted foundation in Christ. As a result, they collapse under the weight of trials, temptations, and demonic attacks.

Jesus, in Matthew 7, illustrates the contrast between a wise man who builds on the rock and a foolish man who builds on sand. The difference is not in the storm, but in the foundation. Life’s storms come to all, but only those with spiritual depth and foundation will stand.

This message exposes the dangers and consequences of living a life without a strong spiritual base. It will help us evaluate ourselves and return to solid ground if necessary.

1. SPIRITUAL INSTABILITY
When there is no proper foundation in the Word and Spirit, a believer will be tossed about by every wind of doctrine and life situation.

a) Easily deceived by false doctrines
(Ephesians 4:14)

b) Cannot stand during spiritual battles
(Proverbs 24:10)

c) Lacks conviction and consistency
(James 1:6–8)

d) Falls for emotional Christianity rather than rooted faith
(Matthew 13:20–21)

Biblical Example: The foolish man who built on sand (Matthew 7:26–27)

2. LACK OF SPIRITUAL GROWTH
A weak foundation prevents spiritual development and maturity. It stunts the believer's walk with God.

a) No hunger for the Word or prayer
(1 Peter 2:2)

b) Fails to manifest the fruit of the Spirit
(Galatians 5:22–23)

c) Remains a spiritual babe for long
(Hebrews 5:12–14)

d) Unfit for divine assignment or leadership
(2 Timothy 2:21)

Biblical Example: The Corinthian church that remained carnal (1 Corinthians 3:1–3)

3. VULNERABILITY TO SATANIC ATTACKS
A weak foundation gives Satan access into a believer’s life, family, and destiny.

a) No spiritual shield or defence
(Ephesians 6:11–13)

b) Demonic influences and oppression thrive
(Matthew 12:43–45)

c) Cannot resist the devil effectively
(James 4:7)

d) Easily entangled again with the world
(2 Peter 2:20–22)

Biblical Example: The seven sons of Sceva who had no foundation in Christ (Acts 19:13–16)

4. INEFFECTIVE WITNESSING AND MINISTRY
Without a solid spiritual base, your light will not shine brightly, and your ministry will lack impact.

a) No spiritual authority or influence
(Acts 4:13)

b) Results become superficial and temporary
(1 Corinthians 3:12–15)

c) Cannot lead others when personally unstable
(Romans 2:21–22)

d) Frustration and burnout in ministry
(Galatians 6:9)

Biblical Example: Saul who lacked spiritual depth and was rejected (1 Samuel 15:23–28)

5. COLLAPSE IN TIMES OF STORMS
Storms of life are inevitable. The only thing that will sustain us is a strong spiritual foundation in Christ.

a) Storms test what’s hidden beneath
(Luke 6:48–49)

b) Trials reveal the reality of your spiritual base
(1 Peter 1:7)

c) Many collapse due to shallow faith
(Matthew 13:6)

d) Eternal consequence if not fixed
(Matthew 25:10–12)

Biblical Example: Demas who forsook Paul due to worldly pressures (2 Timothy 4:10)

CONCLUSION:
Many believers struggle, not because God is absent, but because their foundation is faulty. No matter how tall a building is, if its foundation is weak, it will crumble eventually. The same is true for spiritual lives.

We must return to foundational teachings—Christ, the Word, prayer, obedience, and holiness—so that we may stand strong, bear fruit, and finish well.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, repair every broken spiritual foundation in my life.
2. Father, plant me deep in Your Word and truth.
3. Every shallow Christianity in me, give way to deep conviction.
4. I refuse to collapse in the day of trouble.
5. Lord, help me to build with wisdom and diligence.
6. Every enemy exploiting my spiritual weakness, be exposed and defeated.
7. Lord, make me a solid vessel for Your use.
8. Father, uproot spiritual laziness and carelessness from my life.
9. Holy Spirit, revive my passion for growth and maturity.
10. By mercy, I receive grace to finish well and strong.
