DELIVERANCE FROM SPIRITUAL WEAKNESS AND PRAYERLESSNESS

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Matthew 26:40-41

Supporting Texts: Isaiah 40:29-31; Romans 12:11; Ephesians 6:18; Luke 18:1; Revelation 3:15-16

INTRODUCTION:
One of the greatest attacks on the believer today is spiritual weakness, often expressed as lukewarmness, lack of prayer, tiredness in spiritual matters, and loss of hunger for God. The devil knows that once a believer becomes spiritually weak, their resistance to temptation and power for victory is lost. A prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian.

Prayerlessness is not just a habit issue—it is a spiritual bondage. It may begin subtly with distractions, busyness, and emotional exhaustion, but it quickly becomes a stronghold. Many desire to pray, fast, study, and grow, but they find themselves unable to sustain the fire. This is the work of the enemy, stealing their spiritual vitality.

However, there is hope. The Holy Spirit can quicken your spirit again. You can be set free from dryness, weariness, and apathy. Your altar of fire can burn once more. As you engage in spiritual warfare and discipline, strength shall be renewed, and a fresh fire will fall on your life.

1. UNDERSTANDING SPIRITUAL WEAKNESS AND PRAYERLESSNESS

a) It Is a State of Dullness in Spiritual Senses: You stop discerning and responding to God (1 Corinthians 2:14).

b) It Is the Enemy’s Strategy to Disarm Believers: A prayerless believer is easily overcome (Matthew 26:41).

c) It Results in Defeat and Compromise: Sin thrives where prayer is absent (Romans 7:19).

d) It Opposes Growth and Power: No believer can rise spiritually without prayer (Luke 18:1).

Biblical Example: The disciples slept while Jesus prayed, and they later fled in fear (Matthew 26:40-56).

2. SIGNS OF SPIRITUAL WEAKNESS IN A BELIEVER

a) Inconsistent Prayer and Devotional Life: No regular communion with God (Psalm 63:1).

b) Lack of Passion for God’s Presence: Church becomes routine, not refreshing (Revelation 2:4).

c) Falling Into Sin Easily and Repeatedly: No strength to resist temptation (James 1:14-15).

d) Irritability, Fear, and Confusion: When prayer ceases, anxiety increases (Isaiah 30:15).

Biblical Example: Samson lost his consecration and power when he became spiritually careless (Judges 16:20).

3. CAUSES OF SPIRITUAL WEAKNESS AND PRAYERLESSNESS

a) Sin and Guilt: These break intimacy with God and discourage prayer (Psalm 66:18).

b) Busyness and Distraction: The cares of life choke spiritual routines (Luke 10:40-42).

c) Demonic Oppression and Spiritual Slumber: Forces that drain hunger for God (Romans 13:11).

d) Lack of Fellowship and Accountability: Isolation weakens spiritual fire (Hebrews 10:25).

Biblical Example: King Saul drifted from God and ended up seeking a medium (1 Samuel 28:5-7).

4. HOW TO BREAK FREE FROM PRAYERLESSNESS AND SPIRITUAL DRYNESS

a) Cry to God for Fresh Fire and Mercy: Ask for spiritual revival (Psalm 85:6).

b) Make a Personal Prayer Schedule and Keep It: Discipline builds consistency (Daniel 6:10).

c) Feed Daily on the Word and Stay in Worship: These quicken your spirit (Jeremiah 15:16).

d) Engage in Corporate Prayer and Fasting: Fire is contagious in fellowship (Acts 4:31).

Biblical Example: David cried, “Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation,” and was revived (Psalm 51:12).

5. MAINTAINING A BURNING ALTAR CONTINUALLY

a) Live a Consecrated and Holy Life: Sin quenches the fire (Romans 12:1).

b) Set Your Mind on Things Above: Focus fuels fire (Colossians 3:1-2).

c) Pray in the Spirit Regularly: Tongues build spiritual energy (Jude 1:20).

d) Make God Your Priority Always: Seek Him first, and all else follows (Matthew 6:33).

Biblical Example: Paul remained spiritually on fire until his last breath (2 Timothy 4:7-8).

CONCLUSION:
You were not created to be spiritually weak, dry, or empty. There is a place of fire, hunger, and intimacy with God where power flows continually. Satan fears a praying Christian and will do everything to stop your spiritual growth.

But by the blood of Jesus and the quickening of the Spirit, you are rising again. The altar of your life shall burn with fresh fire. You will no longer be lukewarm. You will pray again, study again, and walk in dominion again.
