Description: God is not only the giver of wealth but also the destroyer of the root and backbone of poverty. When He steps in, He removes the spiritual, mental, and physical chains that keep people in lack and ushers them into abundance and sufficiency according to His covenant.
INTRODUCTION:
Poverty is not merely a lack of money; it is a condition of limitation that affects one’s ability to fulfil destiny. It can be a result of economic conditions, personal decisions, or even spiritual oppression. Poverty reduces dignity, hinders generosity, and enslaves its victims to dependency.
In the Scriptures, we see that God takes no pleasure in the poverty of His people. He called Israel into a land flowing with milk and honey, and He provided manna in the wilderness to show that He is the ultimate source of provision. The covenant of God with His people includes abundance, fruitfulness, and prosperity.
When God breaks the backbone of poverty, He does not only give temporary relief — He establishes systems of increase, opens doors of opportunity, imparts the wisdom to manage resources, and blesses His people to become blessings to others.
1. GOD HAS THE POWER TO DESTROY THE ROOT OF POVERTY
Poverty has spiritual roots that God alone can uproot permanently.
a) God lifts the poor from the dust (Psalm 113:7)
He changes status from lowliness to greatness.
b) God breaks the curse of lack (Galatians 3:13-14)
Through Christ, the curse that brings financial hardship is destroyed.
c) God provides resources beyond human effort (Philippians 4:19)
He supplies according to His riches in glory, not according to economic conditions.
d) God changes environments to change destinies (Genesis 12:1-3)
He relocates His children from places of limitation to places of increase.
Biblical Example: The widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17:8-16) — God ended her famine and sustained her household supernaturally.
2. GOD GIVES THE POWER TO GET WEALTH
Wealth creation is a divine enablement, not merely human skill.
a) God imparts ideas and wisdom for wealth (Proverbs 8:12, 18)
Inspiration from God produces solutions that generate resources.
b) God gives strength and health to work (Exodus 23:25)
Without health, productivity is impossible.
c) God connects His people to opportunities (Genesis 41:14, 40-41)
He can bring someone from obscurity to a position of influence.
d) God blesses the work of the hands (Deuteronomy 28:12)
Efforts become fruitful and productive under His favour.
Biblical Example: Joseph — God’s wisdom lifted him from prison to become the economic deliverer of Egypt.
3. GOD BREAKS LIMITATIONS AND OPENS DOORS
Breaking poverty means removing barriers that keep blessings away.
a) God opens the windows of heaven (Malachi 3:10)
He releases blessings that overflow.
b) God grants favour before men (Esther 2:17)
Favour opens doors money cannot buy.
c) God dismantles systems that hinder progress (Isaiah 45:2-3)
He breaks gates of brass and cuts bars of iron.
d) God grants divine speed and acceleration (Amos 9:13)
Harvest overtakes the ploughman when God accelerates blessings.
Biblical Example: The four lepers (2 Kings 7:3-11) — God used them to bring sudden wealth to a starving nation.
4. GOD MAKES HIS PEOPLE CHANNELS OF BLESSING
True deliverance from poverty turns you into a blessing for others.
a) God blesses so you can bless others (Genesis 12:2)
Your prosperity is meant to impact lives.
b) God makes you a lender, not a borrower (Deuteronomy 28:12)
He elevates you to financial authority.
c) God uses generosity to sustain wealth (2 Corinthians 9:6-8)
Giving ensures a continuous flow of resources.
d) God’s covenant ensures generational blessings (Psalm 112:1-3)
Your children inherit both wealth and righteousness.
Biblical Example: Abraham — Blessed in all things and a source of blessing to nations.
CONCLUSION:
God’s desire for His children is not survival but abundance that glorifies Him and blesses others. Poverty is an enemy to the fulfilment of God’s covenant, but when He steps in, He breaks its backbone, destroys its roots, and establishes His people in lasting prosperity.
Therefore, trust Him, obey His Word, sow in faith, and walk in covenant principles. The same God who lifted Joseph, Abraham, and the widow of Zarephath is still at work today — and He will do it for you.
