THE CALAMITIES THAT SWALLOW OTHERS WILL NOT TOUCH YOU

THE CALAMITIES THAT SWALLOW OTHERS WILL NOT TOUCH YOU

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Psalm 91:7-10

Supporting Texts: Isaiah 43:2, Nahum 1:9, Exodus 12:23, Daniel 6:22

INTRODUCTION:
We live in a world filled with uncertainty, where disasters, troubles, and calamities are daily realities for many. Yet the Word of God assures us that those who trust in the Lord will be exempted from the destructions that consume others. Calamities may strike on the right and on the left, but the children of God enjoy divine covering and preservation.

God’s covenant of exemption is real. When the destroyer passes through a land, there is a mark of distinction upon God’s people. His promises of safety are not empty words but divine guarantees that we can rely on. What swallows others will not swallow you because you carry the seal of the blood of Jesus Christ.

This sermon will show us how believers can walk in divine preservation and exemption from the calamities that swallow others. We will see the keys to living a life of protection under the shadow of the Almighty.

1. GOD HAS PROMISED DIVINE EXEMPTION

a) God’s Word assures safety (Psalm 91:7)
A thousand may fall at your side, but it shall not come near you.

b) Divine protection is part of the covenant (Exodus 15:26)
Those who keep His Word enjoy divine health and preservation.

c) God distinguishes His people from others (Exodus 8:22-23)
He sets a difference between His children and the world.

d) His promises cannot fail (Joshua 21:45)
Not one word of God concerning His promises has ever failed.

Biblical Example: The land of Goshen was preserved during the plagues of Egypt (Exodus 9:26).

2. THE BLOOD OF JESUS SECURES OUR SAFETY

a) The blood is a mark of exemption (Exodus 12:23)
When the destroyer sees the blood, he will pass over.

b) The blood speaks better things (Hebrews 12:24)
It speaks mercy, protection, and deliverance.

c) The blood gives us victory over the enemy (Revelation 12:11)
Through the blood, we overcome calamities.

d) The blood is a covenant of safety (Zechariah 9:11)
It delivers us from the pit of destruction.

Biblical Example: Rahab and her family were preserved by the scarlet cord (Joshua 2:18-19).

3. ANGELIC COVERING PRESERVES GOD’S PEOPLE

a) Angels are assigned to guard us (Psalm 91:11-12)
God commands His angels to keep watch over us.

b) Angels deliver God’s children from danger (Acts 12:7)
Peter was released from prison by angelic intervention.

c) Angels encamp around the righteous (Psalm 34:7)
The angel of the Lord surrounds those who fear Him.

d) Angels execute judgment on enemies (2 Kings 19:35)
One angel smote the Assyrian army that threatened God’s people.

Biblical Example: Daniel was preserved in the lions’ den by angelic intervention (Daniel 6:22).

4. FAITH IN GOD KEEPS US SAFE FROM CALAMITY

a) Fear attracts calamity, but faith attracts protection (Job 3:25)
What you fear may come upon you, but faith shields you.

b) Trusting God brings peace in times of disaster (Isaiah 26:3)
He keeps in perfect peace those who trust in Him.

c) Faith activates divine covering (Ephesians 6:16)
The shield of faith quenches the fiery darts of the wicked.

d) God honours those who believe Him (Hebrews 11:6)
Without faith it is impossible to please God.

Biblical Example: Noah believed God and built the ark, and his household was preserved (Genesis 7:1).

5. THE PRESENCE OF GOD IS OUR STRONG DEFENCE

a) God’s presence guarantees safety (Psalm 23:4)
Even in the valley of the shadow of death, His presence comforts us.

b) Calamity cannot prevail where God is (Romans 8:31)
If God be for us, who can be against us?

c) His presence delivers from trouble (Psalm 46:1)
He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

d) God goes with His children through fire and flood (Isaiah 43:2)
We shall not be consumed.

Biblical Example: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were preserved in the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:25-27).

CONCLUSION:
The calamities that swallow others will not touch you because you are hidden under the shadow of the Almighty, sealed with the blood of Jesus, surrounded by angels, strengthened by faith, and covered by God’s presence. While others may fall, you shall stand secure, for the Lord is your refuge.
