INTRODUCTION:
Sacrifice is a language that speaks deeply to the heart of God. Throughout Scripture, men and women who offered true sacrifice captured God's attention and moved His hand in profound ways. Solomon's thousand burnt offerings, Abraham’s willingness to offer Isaac, and the widow’s two mites are timeless examples of how sacrificial offerings provoke divine response.
True sacrifice goes beyond routine giving or service. It costs the giver something significant—something precious. It is a demonstration of trust, devotion, and submission. God is not impressed by the amount, but by the heart, the cost, and the obedience behind the sacrifice.
Today, many give from their abundance, but few give from their hearts. A sacrifice that touches God is not always about money—it includes time, service, worship, and the offering of our very lives. Such sacrifice leads to uncommon favour and divine visitation.
1. SACRIFICE MUST BE COSTLY TO CARRY VALUE
A sacrifice that does not cost us is unlikely to move God.
a) Solomon Gave Extravagantly to Honour God (2 Chronicles 1:6)
Solomon’s offering was not a requirement—it was an act of love and honour.
b) David Refused to Offer God What Cost Him Nothing (2 Samuel 24:24)
Worship without cost is convenience, not sacrifice.
c) True Sacrifice Involves Denial and Surrender (Romans 12:1)
Our lives must be offered as living sacrifices—holy and acceptable.
d) God Measures the Cost, Not the Size (Mark 12:43–44)
The widow gave more than the rich because she gave all she had.
Biblical Example: The widow in Mark 12 gave two mites, but Jesus said she gave more than all because it was all she had. God was touched by her heart, not her amount.
2. SACRIFICE IS A PROOF OF FAITH AND OBEDIENCE
Sacrifice is not just about giving—it’s about trusting and obeying God completely.
a) Abraham’s Sacrifice of Isaac Was a Test of Trust (Genesis 22:1–2)
God often tests our hearts through what we value most.
b) Faith Is Expressed Through Sacrificial Action (Hebrews 11:17–19)
Abraham believed that God could raise Isaac from the dead.
c) Obedience Unlocks the Next Level of God’s Blessings (Genesis 22:16–18)
God swore a blessing because Abraham did not withhold his son.
d) Delayed Obedience Can Nullify the Power of Sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22)
Obedience is better than sacrifice without submission.
Biblical Example: Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice Isaac was a turning point in history. It established a covenant that extended through generations.
3. SACRIFICE PROVOKES DIVINE RESPONSE AND FAVOUR
Whenever a true sacrifice is made, God responds with blessings and revelations.
a) God Appeared to Solomon in a Dream After His Offering (2 Chronicles 1:7)
Sacrifice opens portals of divine encounters.
b) Sacrificial Giving Triggers Divine Supply (Philippians 4:18–19)
God responds to giving that pleases Him with abundant provision.
c) Sacrifice Can Speak for Generations (Genesis 22:17–18)
God’s promise to Abraham extended to his descendants because of his sacrifice.
d) Sacrifice Builds an Altar of Remembrance (Genesis 8:20–22)
God remembered Noah and made a covenant never to destroy the earth again.
Biblical Example: Solomon’s sacrifice provoked a divine visitation. God appeared to him and gave him wisdom, riches, and honour.
4. SACRIFICE IS NOT ALWAYS MATERIAL—IT INCLUDES OUR LIVES
The greatest sacrifice is offering ourselves entirely to God.
a) Our Bodies Are to Be Living Sacrifices (Romans 12:1)
Total surrender is the foundation of acceptable worship.
b) Time, Talents, and Energy Given to God Are Sacrifices Too (Colossians 3:23–24)
God honours the dedication of our entire being to His service.
c) Sacrificial Living Denies the Flesh and Glorifies God (Galatians 2:20)
We are called to live by the Spirit, not the flesh.
d) Every True Servant of God Lives a Sacrificial Life (2 Timothy 4:6–8)
Paul saw his life as a drink offering poured out for Christ.
Biblical Example: Paul the Apostle gave up everything—status, freedom, comfort—for the sake of the gospel. His life became a sweet-smelling offering to God.
CONCLUSION:
A sacrifice that touches God is one that comes from a heart full of love, obedience, and devotion. It is not about impressing people, but about honouring God. Whether it's time, money, worship, or your very life—God responds when we give with sincerity and trust. Sacrifice is the path to supernatural blessings, divine encounters, and eternal impact.
Today, God is still looking for living sacrifices—people who will go beyond convenience and give themselves fully to Him. Will you be one of them?
