THE POWER OF AGREEMENT IN PRAYER

INTRODUCTION

In Matthew chapter 18, Jesus revealed an important spiritual principle concerning united prayer. He declared that when two believers agree together concerning what they ask in prayer, the Father responds powerfully. Jesus also promised His presence wherever two or three gather together in His name.

The power of agreement in prayer demonstrates the importance of unity among believers. Throughout Scripture, God consistently moved powerfully when His people prayed together with one heart, one purpose, and one spirit. Unity strengthens faith, encourages perseverance, and creates an atmosphere for divine intervention.

Satan often seeks to produce division, offence, strife, and disunity because he understands the spiritual strength released through agreement. A divided church, family, or fellowship becomes spiritually weakened, but united believers become powerful instruments in God’s hands.

Agreement in prayer is not merely people speaking the same words outwardly. True agreement involves unity of heart, faith, purpose, and submission to God’s will. When believers pray together in faith and harmony, God releases wisdom, healing, breakthrough, deliverance, and spiritual power.

1. UNITY CREATES SPIRITUAL STRENGTH

God works powerfully through united believers.

a) Jesus emphasised agreement in prayer (Matthew 18:19)
Unity among believers strengthens spiritual effectiveness and confidence in prayer.

b) Two are stronger than one spiritually and practically (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)
Fellowship and partnership provide encouragement, support, and strength during challenges.

Strife, offence, and disunity hinder the flow of God’s blessing and power.

d) Unity reflects the heart and character of God (Psalm 133:1)
God delights in harmony and commands blessing where believers dwell together in unity.

Biblical Example:
The early disciples remained united continually in prayer and fellowship before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 1:14).

2. AGREEMENT IN PRAYER RELEASES DIVINE INTERVENTION

United prayer invites God’s power into situations.

a) Jesus promised answers when believers agree together in faith (Matthew 18:19)
God responds to sincere, unified prayer aligned with His will.

b) Corporate prayer strengthens faith and expectation (Hebrews 10:24-25)
Believers encourage one another to trust God together during difficult seasons.

c) Persistent united prayer produces spiritual breakthroughs (Acts 12:5-11)
The church prayed earnestly for Peter, and God intervened supernaturally to deliver him.

d) Prayer agreement releases spiritual authority against opposition (James 5:16)
Effective and fervent prayer carries great spiritual power and influence.

Biblical Example:
When believers gathered together in prayer after persecution, God shook the place where they prayed and filled them with boldness through the Holy Spirit (Acts 4:24-31).

3. TRUE AGREEMENT REQUIRES LOVE, HUMILITY, AND FORGIVENESS

Spiritual unity cannot thrive where bitterness and pride exist.

a) Believers must walk in love toward one another (John 13:34-35)
Genuine love strengthens unity and reflects Christ’s nature.

b) Pride and offence destroy agreement and fellowship (Proverbs 13:10)
Humility and patience help preserve peace and understanding among believers.

c) Forgiveness removes barriers to effective prayer (Mark 11:25)
Unforgiveness hinders spiritual freedom and weakens unity.

d) Agreement flows from hearts surrendered to God’s will (Philippians 2:2-3)
Selfish ambition and personal agendas weaken spiritual harmony.

Biblical Example:
Abraham chose peace and humility in dealing with Lot, preventing unnecessary conflict and preserving harmony (Genesis 13:7-9).

4. JESUS PROMISES HIS PRESENCE AMONG UNITED BELIEVERS

God’s presence accompanies gatherings centred upon Him.

a) Jesus promised to be present where believers gather in His name (Matthew 18:20)
Corporate fellowship invites God’s manifest presence and spiritual encouragement.

b) God’s presence brings strength, healing, and transformation (Psalm 16:11)
Fellowship with God renews hearts and strengthens faith.

c) The Holy Spirit works powerfully among united believers (1 Corinthians 12:12-13)
Spiritual gifts and ministry flourish where unity and love are present.

d) Christian fellowship strengthens perseverance and spiritual growth (Hebrews 3:13)
Believers help encourage and strengthen one another daily.

Biblical Example:
After Jesus’ resurrection, the disciples gathered together continually, experiencing His presence, teaching, peace, and empowerment (John 20:19-22).

CONCLUSION

The power of agreement in prayer reveals the spiritual strength found in unity among believers. Jesus taught that united prayer carries great effectiveness and invites God’s intervention, presence, and blessing.

Believers must therefore guard against division, offence, pride, and unforgiveness while pursuing love, humility, fellowship, and harmony. When Christians pray together in faith and unity, God moves powerfully in miraculous and transforming ways.

The church, families, and believers who remain united in prayer become strong instruments for God’s kingdom and glory.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS

1. Every spirit of division and disunity working against your life shall be destroyed!

2. The Lord shall strengthen unity, love, and peace within your relationships!

3. Your prayers shall receive divine answers and supernatural intervention!

4. Every barrier hindering agreement and fellowship shall be removed!

5. The presence and power of God shall rest mightily upon your gatherings!

6. You shall walk in wisdom, humility, and spiritual maturity!

7. Every family and fellowship connected to you shall experience restoration and harmony!

8. The Holy Spirit shall empower believers around you with boldness and strength!

9. Your life shall become a channel of peace, encouragement, and unity!

10. You shall experience victory, breakthrough, and divine visitation through united prayer in Jesus’ name!
