BREAKING THE CHAINS OF THE ENEMY

BREAKING THE CHAINS OF THE ENEMY

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Acts 16:25–26

Supporting Texts: Isaiah 10:27, Luke 4:18, John 8:36, Psalm 107:14, Jeremiah 30:8

INTRODUCTION:
Chains symbolise bondage, oppression, limitation, and captivity. Many people, though physically free, are spiritually or emotionally bound. The enemy uses chains of fear, addiction, depression, sin, and generational curses to hinder destinies and stop the fulfilment of God’s plan in lives.

But thanks be to God, we serve a chain-breaking Saviour! When Jesus steps into a situation, no chain can hold, no prison can confine, and no power of hell can withstand His presence. The story of Paul and Silas in Acts 16 shows that praise, prayer, and the presence of God can break every chain.

Today, God wants you free. Not partially free, but completely. There is power available to destroy every yoke, break every chain, and lift every burden. You can walk out of every prison and step into divine liberty.

1. RECOGNISING THE CHAINS OF THE ENEMY

a) Chains represent spiritual limitations (Acts 16:24)
The enemy uses spiritual chains to limit progress and freedom.

b) Chains can be mental, emotional, or physical (Psalm 107:10–11)
Bondage may manifest in thoughts, habits, or environments.

c) Sin is a major source of bondage (John 8:34)
Sin creates legal access for the enemy to enslave a person.

d) Generational patterns can become chains (Lamentations 5:7)
Some chains are inherited and require intentional breaking.

e) Biblical Example: The demoniac of Gadara was bound with chains and lived in isolation until Jesus delivered him (Mark 5:1–15).

2. DIVINE POWER BREAKS EVERY CHAIN

a) The anointing destroys the yoke (Isaiah 10:27)
The power of God breaks every demonic oppression.

b) Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17)
Freedom is found in the presence of God.

c) Jesus came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18)
Deliverance is part of the gospel message.

d) When Jesus sets you free, you are free indeed (John 8:36)
His deliverance is permanent and complete.

e) Biblical Example: Peter was supernaturally released from prison by an angel of the Lord (Acts 12:6–11).

3. KEYS TO BREAKING THE CHAINS

a) Persistent prayer opens prison doors (Acts 16:25)
Prayer invites divine intervention and releases heavenly power.

b) Praise invites God's presence and power (Psalm 22:3)
Paul and Silas praised their way out of bondage.

c) Faith activates your freedom (Hebrews 11:6)
You must believe that God is able to deliver you.

d) The Word of God is a weapon against bondage (Jeremiah 23:29)
His Word breaks rocks and destroys strongholds.

e) Biblical Example: Jehoshaphat and Judah were delivered through praise in the midst of battle (2 Chronicles 20:21–22).

4. WALKING IN CONTINUOUS FREEDOM

a) Stay connected to Christ daily (John 15:5)
Abiding in Christ keeps you above the enemy’s traps.

b) Renew your mind with God’s truth (Romans 12:2)
Freedom is sustained by transformed thinking.

c) Guard your heart and life from compromise (Proverbs 4:23)
Avoid returning to habits or relationships that lead to bondage.

d) Use your authority to reject every chain (Luke 10:19)
You have the power to say no to the enemy.

e) Biblical Example: The Israelites were delivered from Egypt, but only those who followed God's instructions made it into the Promised Land (Exodus 13–14, Numbers 14:30).

CONCLUSION:
Every chain can be broken—no matter how long it has been there or how strong it seems. The same God who delivered Paul and Silas, Peter, and countless others in Scripture is still breaking chains today. Jesus came not just to forgive sin, but to destroy the works of the devil and give us total freedom.

Don’t settle for spiritual captivity. The chains have no power where the blood of Jesus is applied and where His name is exalted. Through prayer, praise, and faith, you can walk out of every prison and step into purpose.
