WHEN THE RED SEA STANDS BEFORE YOU

WHEN THE RED SEA STANDS BEFORE YOU

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Exodus 14:1-31

Supporting Texts: Psalm 66:6, Isaiah 43:2, 1 Corinthians 10:1–2, Romans 8:31

INTRODUCTION:
There are moments in every believer’s journey when they are faced with a “Red Sea”—a situation that seems impossible to cross, a challenge that appears insurmountable. It may be a crisis in your health, finances, relationships, or spiritual life. These are defining moments, where faith is tested and God’s power is revealed.

The children of Israel had just been delivered from centuries of bondage in Egypt, only to find themselves trapped between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea. Fear gripped them, but God had a plan. When the Red Sea stands before you, it is not the end—it's the beginning of a miracle.

This message is to remind you that the God who parts seas and makes a way where there is none is still at work today. He will fight for you, lead you through the waters, and bring you safely to the other side.

1. GOD SOMETIMES LEADS YOU TO THE RED SEA

a) God directs our paths for His purpose (Exodus 14:1–4):
God Himself led the Israelites to the edge of the Red Sea, not as a trap but as a stage for His glory to be revealed.

b) Divine delays are not divine denials (Isaiah 55:8–9):
What may look like confusion is often God's higher wisdom working behind the scenes.

c) Red Sea moments test our faith and obedience (Hebrews 11:29):
These moments push us to trust God beyond what we can understand or control.

d) The presence of opposition does not mean absence of God (Romans 8:31):
Pharaoh’s army behind and the sea ahead didn’t mean God had abandoned them—He was right in their midst.

Biblical Example: Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tested, but it was a path to power and victory (Luke 4:1–14).

2. FEAR NOT—STAND STILL AND SEE GOD’S SALVATION

a) Fear is the enemy of faith (Exodus 14:13):
Moses told the people to “fear not.” Fear paralyses, but faith energises.

b) Standing still means trusting God completely (Psalm 46:10):
It is not inactivity but confident rest in God’s power.

c) God’s salvation will always surpass human solutions (2 Chronicles 20:17):
When God shows up, no enemy can stand.

d) Your current battle belongs to the Lord (Exodus 14:14):
He will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.

Biblical Example: Jehoshaphat’s army did nothing but worship, and God gave them victory (2 Chronicles 20:21–24).

3. MOVE FORWARD IN OBEDIENCE

a) There is a time to stop crying and start moving (Exodus 14:15):
God told Moses, “Why cry to me? Tell the people to go forward!”

b) Obedience opens the door to the miraculous (Isaiah 1:19):
Even when you don’t see a way, moving at God’s word creates one.

c) Faith requires action, not just confession (James 2:17):
Until they stepped forward, the sea didn’t part.

d) Miracles follow forward movement (Mark 16:20):
As they moved, God moved with them, parting the waters.

Biblical Example: The lepers in 2 Kings 7 walked into enemy territory by faith and triggered divine intervention.

4. GOD MAKES A WAY WHERE THERE IS NO WAY

a) The sea represents an impossible barrier (Exodus 14:21):
But God specialises in impossibilities.

b) God uses what’s in your hand (Exodus 14:16):
Moses stretched out the rod, and God did the rest.

c) God can suspend natural laws for your sake (Joshua 3:15–17):
He parted the Red Sea and made the ground dry.

d) What threatens to drown you will become your path to victory (Isaiah 43:2):
God doesn’t always remove the waters—sometimes He makes you walk through them.

Biblical Example: Elijah parted the Jordan with his mantle, proving God's power is consistent in every generation (2 Kings 2:8).

5. YOUR ENEMIES WILL BE DEFEATED IN THE SAME PLACE

a) The place of your fear becomes the place of your deliverance (Exodus 14:27–28):
The same sea that looked like a trap became a grave for Pharaoh’s army.

b) God’s deliverance is total (Psalm 34:19–20):
No part of the enemy remained.

c) You will see your enemies no more (Exodus 14:13):
God not only delivers but destroys the power of your opposition.

d) Your testimony will be birthed in that place (Exodus 15:1–2):
The Red Sea became a place of songs, not sorrow.

Biblical Example: Daniel’s lions' den became a place of divine promotion (Daniel 6:22–28).

CONCLUSION:
The Red Sea is not your end—it is the place where God reveals Himself as the Way Maker. When faced with impossible situations, trust in the Lord, move forward in obedience, and believe that He will fight for you. The waters that stand before you will part, and the enemies that chase you will drown. Your Red Sea will become your miracle ground and your testimony platform.

Let this be your declaration: “The Red Sea before me will not stop me. God will make a way!”
