FOLLOW ME

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: John 21:15-22

Key Verse: “This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.” (John 21:19)

Supporting Texts: Matthew 4:19; Luke 9:23; Philippians 3:13-14; Hebrews 12:2

Description: This message reveals the call to discipleship, total commitment, and a life of following Christ wholeheartedly.

INTRODUCTION

In John 21:19, Jesus gave Peter a direct and personal command: “Follow me.” This instruction came after Peter’s restoration, showing that despite his past failures, he was still called to a life of discipleship and purpose.

The call to follow Christ is the essence of Christianity. It is not merely about believing in Him but about walking in His footsteps, obeying His word, and aligning our lives with His will. Following Christ requires commitment, sacrifice, and a willingness to leave behind anything that hinders our relationship with Him.

In today’s world, many claim to know Christ, but true discipleship is demonstrated through consistent obedience and devotion. The call “Follow me” is still relevant; it is a call to a transformed life, guided by Christ.

1. THE CALL TO FOLLOW CHRIST IS PERSONAL

Jesus spoke directly to Peter, showing that discipleship is individual.

a. A Personal Invitation (John 21:19)
Jesus calls individuals into a personal relationship with Him.

b. A Call by Name (John 10:3)
The Good Shepherd calls His sheep by name.

c. No One Can Follow for You (Romans 14:12)
Each person must give account for their own life.

d. A Relationship, Not Religion (John 15:15)
Following Christ is about intimacy, not ritual.

e. Biblical Example:
Jesus called Matthew from his tax booth, and he responded immediately, leaving everything to follow Him (Matthew 9:9).

2. FOLLOWING CHRIST REQUIRES SACRIFICE

Discipleship involves letting go of self and worldly attachments.

a. Denying Self (Luke 9:23)
Believers must deny themselves daily.

b. Taking Up the Cross (Matthew 16:24)
Following Christ requires willingness to endure hardship.

c. Letting Go of the Past (Philippians 3:13)
Believers must move forward without being bound by the past.

d. Counting the Cost (Luke 14:28)
Discipleship requires careful commitment.

e. Biblical Example:
The disciples left their nets and followed Jesus, demonstrating total surrender (Matthew 4:18-20).

3. FOLLOWING CHRIST DEMANDS FOCUS AND COMMITMENT

Jesus corrected Peter when he became distracted by others.

a. Focus on Christ Alone (John 21:21-22)
Jesus told Peter not to compare himself with others.

b. Avoiding Distractions (Hebrews 12:2)
Believers must fix their eyes on Jesus.

c. Running the Race with Endurance (Hebrews 12:1)
The Christian life requires perseverance.

d. Staying Committed to the Call (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Believers must remain steadfast.

e. Biblical Example:
Paul remained focused on his calling despite challenges, pressing toward the mark (Philippians 3:13-14).

4. FOLLOWING CHRIST LEADS TO PURPOSE AND GLORY

Jesus revealed that Peter’s life would glorify God.

a. Living for God’s Glory (1 Corinthians 10:31)
Everything we do should glorify God.

b. Fulfilling Divine Purpose (Jeremiah 1:5)
God has a plan for every believer.

c. A Life of Impact (Matthew 5:16)
Believers are to shine as lights in the world.

d. Eternal Reward (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
Faithful followers receive a crown of righteousness.

e. Biblical Example:
Peter fulfilled his calling and became a powerful leader in the early church, bringing glory to God (Acts 2:14-41).

CONCLUSION

The command “Follow me” is a call to a life of total surrender and devotion to Christ. It is not a casual invitation but a serious commitment that requires sacrifice, focus, and obedience.

When believers respond to this call, they discover purpose, direction, and fulfilment. Following Christ leads to a life that glorifies God and impacts others for eternity.

LOVEST THOU ME?

LOVEST THOU ME?

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: John 21:15-17

Key Verse: “So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.” (John 21:15)

Supporting Texts: Matthew 22:37; 1 Corinthians 13:1-3; 1 John 4:19; Luke 22:31-32

Description: This message reveals the call to genuine love for Christ and the responsibility that flows from it.

INTRODUCTION

In John 21:15-17, after His resurrection, Jesus had a personal encounter with Peter. This meeting took place after Peter had denied Him three times. Rather than condemning Peter, Jesus restored him by asking a simple yet profound question: “Lovest thou me?”

This question was repeated three times, corresponding to Peter’s three denials. It was not just a question of emotion but of commitment, devotion, and priority. Jesus was not merely interested in Peter’s words but in the sincerity of his heart.

Today, this same question is directed to every believer. Our relationship with Christ is not measured by activities or titles but by our love for Him. True love for Christ is the foundation of effective service and faithful living.

1. LOVE FOR CHRIST MUST BE SINCERE AND PERSONAL

Jesus asked Peter directly, emphasising personal devotion.

a. A Personal Relationship (John 21:15)
Jesus addressed Peter individually, highlighting personal accountability.

b. Love Above All Else (Matthew 22:37)
Believers are called to love God with all their heart, soul, and mind.

c. Not Just Words but Heart (1 John 3:18)
True love is demonstrated in action, not words alone.

d. Love Rooted in Christ (1 John 4:19)
We love Him because He first loved us.

e. Biblical Example:
David demonstrated deep personal love for God through his worship and devotion (Psalm 63:1-3).

2. LOVE FOR CHRIST REQUIRES PRIORITY OVER ALL THINGS

Jesus asked, “Lovest thou me more than these?”

a. Christ Above Possessions (Luke 14:33)
Nothing should take precedence over Christ.

b. Christ Above Relationships (Matthew 10:37)
Love for Christ must surpass all other relationships.

c. Christ Above Self (Luke 9:23)
Following Christ requires self-denial.

d. Wholehearted Devotion (Deuteronomy 6:5)
God demands total commitment.

e. Biblical Example:
The rich young ruler failed to prioritise Christ above his possessions and walked away sorrowful (Mark 10:21-22).

3. LOVE FOR CHRIST DEMANDS SERVICE AND RESPONSIBILITY

Each time Peter affirmed his love, Jesus gave him an assignment.

a. Feed My Lambs (John 21:15)
Love for Christ is expressed through caring for others.

b. Shepherd My Sheep (John 21:16)
Believers are called to guide and nurture others spiritually.

c. Serve with Love (Galatians 5:13)
Service must be motivated by love.

d. Faithfulness in Ministry (1 Corinthians 4:2)
God requires faithfulness in stewardship.

e. Biblical Example:
Peter later fulfilled this commission by leading and feeding the early church (Acts 2:14-42).

4. LOVE FOR CHRIST LEADS TO RESTORATION AND PURPOSE

Jesus restored Peter and reaffirmed his calling.

a. Restoration After Failure (John 21:17)
Jesus gave Peter a fresh start despite his past.

b. Grace Beyond Mistakes (Romans 5:20)
Where sin abounded, grace abounded more.

c. Renewed Purpose (Jeremiah 29:11)
God restores purpose to those who return to Him.

d. Strengthened for the Future (Luke 22:32)
Peter was strengthened to strengthen others.

e. Biblical Example:
Peter, once broken, became a pillar in the early church after his restoration (Acts 4:8-13).

CONCLUSION

The question “Lovest thou me?” is one that every believer must answer sincerely. It goes beyond words and examines the depth of our relationship with Christ. Love for Christ is the foundation of true discipleship.

When we truly love Him, we prioritise Him above all, serve Him faithfully, and walk in the purpose He has prepared for us. Like Peter, our failures do not disqualify us; Christ restores and commissions us for greater works.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, help me to love You with all my heart, in Jesus name.

2. Lord, let my love for You be genuine and sincere, in Jesus name.

3. Father, remove every distraction that competes with my love for You, in Jesus name.

4. Lord, help me to prioritise You above all things, in Jesus name.

5. Father, give me a heart to serve You faithfully, in Jesus name.

6. Lord, restore every area of my life where I have failed You, in Jesus name.

7. Father, strengthen me to fulfil my divine assignment, in Jesus name.

8. Lord, let my life reflect my love for You daily, in Jesus name.

THOMAS: FROM DOUBT TO FAITH

THOMAS: FROM DOUBT TO FAITH

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: John 20:24-29

Key Verse: “Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.” (John 20:27)

Supporting Texts: Hebrews 11:1; James 1:6; Mark 9:23; Romans 10:17

Description: This message reveals how doubt can be transformed into strong faith through a personal encounter with Christ.

INTRODUCTION

Thomas, one of the twelve disciples, is often remembered for his doubt. When the other disciples testified that they had seen the risen Lord, Thomas refused to believe unless he could see and touch Jesus for himself. His response reflects a struggle that many believers face—wanting tangible proof before believing.

However, Thomas’ story did not end in doubt. When Jesus appeared to him, He did not reject or condemn him but invited him to believe. This encounter transformed Thomas from a doubter into a bold confessor of Christ.

This passage teaches us that doubt is not the end of faith. When we encounter Christ personally and respond to His invitation, our doubts can be replaced with a strong and unshakeable faith.

1. DOUBT CAN AFFECT EVEN BELIEVERS

Thomas was a disciple, yet he struggled with doubt.

a. Exposure to Truth Does Not Eliminate Doubt (John 20:25)
Thomas heard the testimony but still struggled to believe.

b. Doubt Arises from Uncertainty (James 1:6)
A doubting mind is unstable.

c. Fear and Disappointment Can Fuel Doubt (Luke 24:21)
Unmet expectations can weaken faith.

d. The Need for Personal Conviction (Romans 14:5)
Each believer must be fully persuaded in their own mind.

e. Biblical Example:
Peter walked on water but began to sink when doubt and fear entered his heart (Matthew 14:29-31).

2. JESUS MEETS US AT THE POINT OF OUR DOUBT

Jesus responded to Thomas with compassion and understanding.

a. Christ Knows Our Struggles (Hebrews 4:15)
Jesus understands human weakness.

b. Invitation to Believe (John 20:27)
Jesus invited Thomas to examine the evidence.

c. Patience of Christ (2 Peter 3:9)
The Lord is patient and desires growth.

d. Personal Encounter Changes Everything (John 20:28)
Thomas’ encounter led to a confession of faith.

e. Biblical Example:
Gideon doubted God’s call but was reassured through signs and eventually became a mighty deliverer (Judges 6:36-40).

3. FAITH IS SUPERIOR TO SIGHT

Jesus emphasised the importance of believing without seeing.

a. Blessed Are Those Who Believe (John 20:29)
Those who believe without seeing are specially blessed.

b. Faith Is the Substance (Hebrews 11:1)
Faith gives assurance of things not seen.

c. Walking by Faith (2 Corinthians 5:7)
Believers live by faith, not by sight.

d. Trusting God’s Word (Romans 10:17)
Faith comes by hearing the Word of God.

e. Biblical Example:
Abraham believed God’s promise without physical evidence, and it was counted to him as righteousness (Romans 4:18-21).

4. FROM DOUBT TO CONFESSION OF FAITH

Thomas moved from scepticism to a powerful declaration.

a. Acknowledging Christ as Lord (John 20:28)
Thomas declared, “My Lord and my God.”

b. True Faith Leads to Surrender (Romans 10:9)
Confession of faith brings salvation.

c. Growth in Faith (2 Thessalonians 1:3)
Faith can grow and become stronger.

d. Living a Life of Faith (Galatians 2:20)
Believers are called to live by faith in Christ.

e. Biblical Example:
The man who cried, “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief,” experienced a miracle through honest faith (Mark 9:24).

CONCLUSION

The story of Thomas reminds us that doubt is a part of the human experience, but it does not have to define our faith. Jesus meets us where we are and invites us into a deeper relationship with Him.

When we respond to Christ’s call to believe, our doubts are replaced with conviction, and our faith becomes stronger. Like Thomas, we can move from uncertainty to a bold declaration of faith in Christ.

Description: This message reveals the peace of Christ as a divine gift that overcomes fear, restores hearts, and empowers believers for their mission.

INTRODUCTION

In John 20:19, the disciples were gathered behind closed doors, gripped by fear after the crucifixion of Jesus. Uncertainty and anxiety filled their hearts as they wondered what would happen next. It was in this atmosphere of fear that Jesus appeared among them and spoke these powerful words: “Peace be unto you.”

This greeting was not merely a customary expression; it was a divine impartation. Jesus brought a supernatural peace that calmed their fears, reassured their hearts, and restored their confidence. His presence transformed their panic into peace.

Today, many believers face situations that cause fear, anxiety, and distress. However, the same Jesus who spoke peace to His disciples still speaks peace to His people. His peace is not dependent on circumstances but is rooted in His presence and victory.

1. THE PRESENCE OF CHRIST BRINGS PEACE

When Jesus appeared, His presence immediately changed the atmosphere.

a. Peace in His Presence (John 20:19)
Jesus stood among them and spoke peace into their fear.

b. God’s Presence Removes Fear (Isaiah 41:10)
The assurance of God’s presence drives away fear.

c. Calm in the Midst of Storms (Mark 4:39)
Jesus brings peace even in turbulent situations.

d. Assurance of His Nearness (Psalm 46:1)
God is a present help in times of trouble.

e. Biblical Example:
When Jesus walked on water and entered the boat, the storm ceased, and peace was restored (Matthew 14:29-32).

2. THE PEACE OF CHRIST OVERCOMES FEAR AND ANXIETY

Jesus addressed the fear in the hearts of His disciples with His peace.

a. Freedom from Fear (2 Timothy 1:7)
God has not given a spirit of fear.

b. Peace That Surpasses Understanding (Philippians 4:6-7)
God’s peace guards the heart and mind.

c. A Steadfast Mind (Isaiah 26:3)
Perfect peace comes to those who trust in God.

d. Casting Burdens on the Lord (1 Peter 5:7)
Believers are called to release their anxieties to God.

e. Biblical Example:
David found peace in God even when surrounded by enemies (Psalm 3:1-5).

3. PEACE COMES THROUGH THE FINISHED WORK OF CHRIST

The peace Jesus gave was based on His completed work on the cross.

a. Reconciliation with God (Romans 5:1)
Justification brings peace with God.

b. The Gift of Peace (John 14:27)
Christ gives peace that the world cannot give.

c. The Blood of the Cross (Colossians 1:20)
Peace was made through the sacrifice of Jesus.

d. Rest for the Soul (Matthew 11:28–29)
Christ invites believers into His rest.

e. Biblical Example:
After the resurrection, the disciples’ fear was replaced with joy and peace when they saw the Lord (John 20:20).

4. PEACE EMPOWERS BELIEVERS FOR THEIR MISSION

After declaring peace, Jesus sent His disciples on their mission.

a. Commissioned with Peace (John 20:21)
Peace prepares believers for service.

b. Boldness Through Assurance (Acts 4:31)
Peace gives confidence to fulfil God’s calling.

c. The Role of the Holy Spirit (John 20:22)

CONCLUSION

The words “Peace be unto you” are a powerful reminder that Christ offers peace in every situation. His peace calms fears, restores hearts, and brings assurance even in uncertain times.

Believers are called not only to receive this peace but to live in it daily. When we trust in Christ and rely on His finished work, we can walk in peace regardless of circumstances and boldly fulfil our divine purpose.

WHY SEEKEST THOU THE LIVING AMONG THE DEAD?

WHY SEEKEST THOU THE LIVING AMONG THE DEAD?

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: John 20:1-18

Key Verse: “Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.” (John 20:15)

Supporting Texts: Luke 24:5-6; Matthew 28:6; Romans 6:9; Colossians 3:1-2

Description: This message reveals the resurrection power of Christ and challenges believers to seek the living Christ rather than remain in dead situations.

INTRODUCTION

In John 20:15, Mary Magdalene stood weeping at the tomb of Jesus, believing that His body had been taken away. In her grief, she failed to recognise that the One she was searching for was already alive and standing before her.

This moment reflects a common spiritual reality; seeking life in places of death. Often, people look for hope, joy, and purpose in things that cannot give life. The resurrection of Jesus reminds us that life is not found in the grave but in the risen Christ.

The question, “Why seekest thou the living among the dead?” challenges believers to shift their focus from dead works, past failures, and worldly systems to the living and active presence of Jesus Christ.

1. THE REALITY OF THE RESURRECTION

Jesus is alive, and His resurrection changes everything.

a. Christ Is Risen (Matthew 28:6)
Jesus conquered death and rose from the grave.

b. Death Has No Dominion (Romans 6:9)
Christ lives forever, having defeated death.

c. The Power of Resurrection (Philippians 3:10)
Believers experience the power of His resurrection.

d. The Foundation of Faith (1 Corinthians 15:14)
The resurrection is central to the Christian faith.

e. Biblical Example:
The angels declared that Jesus was not in the tomb but had risen, confirming the resurrection (Luke 24:5-6).

2. SEEKING LIFE IN DEAD PLACES IS FUTILE

Mary initially looked for Jesus in the tomb, a place of death.

a. Dead Works Cannot Give Life (Hebrews 6:1)
Religious activities without Christ are empty.

b. The World Cannot Satisfy (Ecclesiastes 2:11)
Worldly pursuits cannot give lasting fulfilment.

c. Past Failures Hold No Future (Isaiah 43:18-19)
God calls believers to move beyond the past.

d. Sin Leads to Death (Romans 6:23)
Only Christ offers true life.

e. Biblical Example:
The prodigal son sought fulfilment in a far country but found emptiness until he returned to his father (Luke 15:13-17).

3. THE LIVING CHRIST REVEALS HIMSELF TO SEEKERS

Jesus revealed Himself to Mary when she truly encountered Him.

a. Personal Encounter with Christ (John 20:16)
Jesus called Mary by name, and she recognised Him.

b. Christ Knows His Own (John 10:3)
The Shepherd calls His sheep by name.

c. Spiritual Recognition (Luke 24:31)
Eyes are opened when Christ reveals Himself.

d. Intimacy with Christ (James 4:8)
Drawing near to God brings revelation.

e. Biblical Example:
The two disciples on the road to Emmaus recognised Jesus when He broke bread with them (Luke 24:30-31).

4. SET YOUR AFFECTION ON THINGS ABOVE

Believers are called to focus on the risen Christ, not on earthly things.

a. Seek Heavenly Things (Colossians 3:1)
Believers are to seek things above where Christ is.

b. Renewed Mindset (Romans 12:2)
Transformation comes through renewing the mind.

c. Living in Resurrection Power (Ephesians 1:19-20)
The same power that raised Christ works in believers.

d. A New Life in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Believers are new creations in Christ.

e. Biblical Example:
Paul shifted his focus from earthly achievements to the pursuit of Christ (Philippians 3:7-10).

CONCLUSION

The question, “Why seekest thou the living among the dead?” is a powerful call to refocus our lives on the risen Christ. Jesus is not in the grave; He is alive and active, offering life, hope, and purpose.

Believers must turn away from dead works, past failures, and worldly pursuits, and seek a living relationship with Christ. In Him, we find true life, transformation, and eternal hope.

1. Father, open my eyes to see the reality of the risen Christ, in Jesus name.

2. Lord, help me to seek You in the right places, in Jesus name.

3. Father, deliver me from every dead work in my life, in Jesus name.

4. Lord, give me a deeper revelation of Your resurrection power, in Jesus name.

IT IS FINISHED

IT IS FINISHED

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: John 19:28-30

Key Verse: “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” (John 19:30)

Supporting Texts: Isaiah 53:5-6; Hebrews 10:12-14; Colossians 2:14-15; 2 Corinthians 5:21

Description: This message reveals the completed work of Christ on the cross and the victory secured for believers.

INTRODUCTION

In John 19:30, Jesus uttered one of the most powerful statements in history: “It is finished.” These words were spoken at the climax of His suffering on the cross, signifying the completion of His redemptive mission.

This declaration was not a cry of defeat but a proclamation of victory. Everything required for the salvation of humanity had been accomplished. The debt of sin was paid in full, and the barrier between God and man was removed.

For believers, this statement carries profound significance. It means that the work of redemption is complete, and we now live in the benefits of what Christ has already finished. Our salvation, victory, and reconciliation are rooted in this finished work.

1. THE COMPLETION OF THE WORK OF REDEMPTION

Jesus completed the mission for which He came into the world.

a. Fulfilment of Prophecy (Isaiah 53:5)
Christ’s suffering fulfilled the prophetic scriptures concerning the Messiah.

b. The Perfect Sacrifice (Hebrews 10:12)
Jesus offered Himself once and for all for sins.

c. The Removal of Sin (John 1:29)
He took away the sin of the world.

d. Obedience to the Father (Philippians 2:8)
Jesus fulfilled the Father’s will through His obedience.

e. Biblical Example:
The sacrificial system of the Old Testament pointed to Christ, who became the final and perfect sacrifice (Leviticus 16:15-16).

2. THE PAYMENT FOR SIN WAS FULLY MADE

The declaration “It is finished” signifies that the debt of sin has been completely paid.

a. The Cancellation of Debt (Colossians 2:14)
The record of our sins was nailed to the cross.

b. Redemption Through His Blood (Ephesians 1:7)
Forgiveness comes through Christ’s sacrifice.

c. No More Condemnation (Romans 8:1)
Believers are free from condemnation in Christ.

d. Justification by Faith (Romans 5:1)
We are declared righteous through faith in Jesus.

e. Biblical Example:
The Passover lamb symbolised deliverance, fulfilled in Christ as the Lamb of God (Exodus 12:13).

3. VICTORY OVER THE POWERS OF DARKNESS

Through His death, Jesus defeated Satan and the forces of evil.

a. Triumph Over Principalities (Colossians 2:15)
Jesus disarmed spiritual powers and authorities.

b. Destruction of the Works of the Devil (1 John 3:8)
Christ came to destroy Satan’s works.

c. Authority Given to Believers (Luke 10:19)
Believers share in Christ’s victory.

d. Freedom from Bondage (Hebrews 2:14-15)
Jesus delivered those held captive by fear of death.

e. Biblical Example:
David’s victory over Goliath symbolises Christ’s victory over the enemy on behalf of His people (1 Samuel 17:49-50).

4. ACCESS TO GOD WAS RESTORED

The finished work of Christ opened the way for direct access to God.

a. The Veil Was Torn (Matthew 27:51)
The barrier between God and man was removed.

b. Bold Access to God (Hebrews 10:19)
Believers can now approach God with confidence.

c. Reconciliation with God (2 Corinthians 5:18)
Christ restored our relationship with the Father.

d. A New Covenant Established (Luke 22:20)
Jesus inaugurated a new covenant through His blood.

e. Biblical Example:
The high priest could enter the Holy of Holies once a year, but now all believers have access through Christ (Hebrews 9:6-8).

CONCLUSION

The words “It is finished” declare the completeness of Christ’s redemptive work. Nothing more needs to be added; everything required for salvation and victory has already been accomplished.

Believers are called to live in the reality of this finished work—walking in freedom, victory, and confidence. Through Christ, we have been redeemed, justified, and given access to God.

2. Lord, help me to walk in the reality of my redemption, in Jesus name.

WHAT IS TRUTH?

WHAT IS TRUTH?

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: John 18:28-40

Key Verse: “Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.” (John 18:38)

Supporting Texts: John 14:6; John 17:17; Psalm 119:160; 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Description: This message explores the nature of truth, revealing that Jesus Christ is the ultimate truth and the foundation for life.

INTRODUCTION

In John 18:38, Pontius Pilate asked one of the most profound questions ever recorded: “What is truth?” He asked this question while standing face to face with Jesus, who had already declared Himself to be the truth. Yet, Pilate failed to recognise the answer standing before him.

This moment reflects the confusion that often exists in the world concerning truth. Many people seek truth in philosophy, human reasoning, or personal opinion, yet true and absolute truth is found only in God.

For believers, understanding truth is essential because it shapes our beliefs, decisions, and way of life. Truth is not merely an idea or concept; it is revealed in the person of Jesus Christ and in the Word of God.

1. TRUTH IS FOUND IN JESUS CHRIST

Jesus is not just a teacher of truth; He is the embodiment of truth.

a. Christ Is the Truth (John 14:6)
Jesus declared Himself to be the truth and the only way to the Father.

b. The Full Revelation of God (Hebrews 1:1-2)
Jesus reveals the nature and will of God.

c. Truth Made Manifest (John 1:14)
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

d. Unchanging Truth (Hebrews 13:8)
Jesus Christ remains the same forever.

e. Biblical Example:
Pilate stood before Jesus, the embodiment of truth, yet failed to recognise Him (John 18:37-38).

2. THE WORD OF GOD IS TRUTH

God’s Word is the standard by which all truth is measured.

a. Scripture Is Truth (John 17:17)
Jesus declared that God’s Word is truth.

b. Inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16)
Scripture is given by inspiration of God.

c. A Guide for Life (Psalm 119:105)
The Word directs believers in the right path.

d. Eternal and Unchanging (Psalm 119:160)
God’s Word stands forever.

e. Biblical Example:
The Bereans searched the Scriptures daily to confirm the truth of what they were taught (Acts 17:11).

3. TRUTH SETS PEOPLE FREE

One of the greatest benefits of truth is freedom.

a. Freedom from Sin (John 8:32)
Knowing the truth brings liberation.

b. Freedom from Deception (Colossians 2:8)
Truth protects believers from false teachings.

c. Freedom from Fear (2 Timothy 1:7)
Truth establishes confidence and boldness.

d. Freedom to Live Righteously (Romans 6:18)
Truth leads to a life of righteousness.

e. Biblical Example:
The prodigal son realised the truth about his condition and returned to his father, finding restoration (Luke 15:17-20).

4. BELIEVERS MUST LIVE BY THE TRUTH

Knowing the truth is not enough; it must be lived out daily.

a. Walking in Truth (3 John 1:4)
God delights in His children walking in truth.

b. Obedience to the Word (James 1:22)
Believers must be doers of the Word.

c. Speaking the Truth in Love (Ephesians 4:15)
Truth must be expressed with love.

d. Standing Firm in Truth (Ephesians 6:14)
Truth is part of the believer’s spiritual armour.

e. Biblical Example:
Daniel stood firmly in truth and refused to compromise, even under pressure (Daniel 6:10).

CONCLUSION

The question “What is truth?” remains relevant today. In a world filled with conflicting ideas and beliefs, the answer is clear: truth is found in Jesus Christ and in the Word of God.

Believers are called not only to know the truth but to live by it. When we embrace Christ as the truth and align our lives with His Word, we experience freedom, direction, and purpose.

1. Father, reveal Your truth to me daily, in Jesus name.

2. Lord, help me to recognise Jesus as the ultimate truth, in Jesus name.

3. Father, guide me to live according to Your Word, in Jesus name.

4. Lord, deliver me from every form of deception, in Jesus name.

5. Father, let Your truth set me free in every area of my life, in Jesus name.

6. Lord, give me the grace to walk in truth always, in Jesus name.

7. Father, strengthen me to stand firm in truth despite opposition, in Jesus name.

8. Lord, help me to speak and live the truth in love, in Jesus name.

POWER AGAINST NEAR SUCCESS SYNDROME

Why do some people come so close to success, yet never seem to fully enter into it?

INTRODUCTION

John 17 records what is often called the High Priestly Prayer of Jesus. This prayer took place shortly before His arrest and crucifixion, making it one of the most intimate and profound moments in His earthly ministry. In it, Jesus lifted His eyes to heaven and prayed to the Father on behalf of Himself, His disciples, and all future believers.

This prayer reveals the heart of Christ for His people. As our High Priest, He intercedes for us, presenting our needs before the Father. It shows His desire for our protection, sanctification, unity, and ultimate glorification.

For believers today, this prayer provides deep assurance. It reminds us that Jesus not only saved us but continues to intercede for us. His prayer covers every aspect of our spiritual journey and reveals God’s plan for our lives.

BE OF GOOD CHEER; I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD

BE OF GOOD CHEER; I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: John 16:25-33

Supporting Texts: Romans 8:37; 1 John 5:4-5; Psalm 34:19; 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

Description: This message reveals the believer’s victory in Christ and the assurance of peace despite life’s challenges.

INTRODUCTION

In John 16:33, Jesus gave His disciples a realistic yet reassuring message. He did not hide the fact that they would face tribulations in the world. Trials, opposition, and challenges are part of the Christian journey.

However, alongside this reality, Jesus gave a powerful encouragement: “Be of good cheer.” This command is rooted in His victory over the world. Through His death and resurrection, He overcame sin, Satan, and every force of darkness.

This means that believers do not fight for victory but from victory. Even in the midst of difficulties, they can remain confident and joyful because Christ has already secured the ultimate triumph.

1. TRIBULATIONS ARE INEVITABLE IN THE WORLD

Jesus made it clear that believers would face challenges.

a. The Reality of Trials (John 16:33)
Tribulation is part of life in a fallen world.

b. Many Are the Afflictions (Psalm 34:19)
The righteous face many afflictions, but God delivers them.

c. Persecution for Righteousness (2 Timothy 3:12)
Those who live godly lives will face opposition.

d. Pressed but Not Destroyed (2 Corinthians 4:8–9)
Believers may be troubled but not defeated.

e. Biblical Example:
The apostles faced persecution yet continued to preach boldly and rejoice in the Lord (Acts 5:40-42).

2. CHRIST HAS ALREADY OVERCOME THE WORLD

The foundation of our confidence is Christ’s victory.

a. Victory Over Sin (Romans 6:14)
Sin no longer has dominion over believers.

b. Victory Over Satan (Colossians 2:15)
Jesus triumphed over principalities and powers.

c. Victory Through the Cross (John 19:30)
“It is finished” signified complete victory.

d. Victory Through Resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:57)
The resurrection confirmed Christ’s triumph.

e. Biblical Example:
Jesus overcame death by rising from the grave, securing eternal victory for believers (Matthew 28:5-6).

3. BELIEVERS SHARE IN CHRIST’S VICTORY

Through Christ, believers become overcomers.

Believers are victorious through Christ’s love.

b. Faith Overcomes the World (1 John 5:4)
Faith is the key to overcoming.

c. Authority Over the Enemy (Luke 10:19)
Believers have been given spiritual authority.

d. Strength Through Christ (Philippians 4:13)
Christ empowers believers to overcome every challenge.

e. Biblical Example:
David overcame Goliath through faith in God, demonstrating victory through divine confidence (1 Samuel 17:45-47).

4. THE CALL TO BE OF GOOD CHEER

Jesus commanded His followers to remain joyful and confident.

a. Peace in Christ (John 16:33)
True peace is found in Christ, not in circumstances.

b. Joy in the Midst of Trials (James 1:2)
Believers are encouraged to count it all joy.

c. Confidence in God’s Presence (Isaiah 41:10)
God’s presence removes fear and brings assurance.

d. Hope That Sustains (Romans 15:13)
God fills believers with hope, peace, and joy.

e. Biblical Example:
Paul and Silas sang praises in prison, demonstrating joy and confidence in God despite their situation (Acts 16:25-26).

CONCLUSION

Jesus’ declaration, “I have overcome the world,” is a powerful assurance for every believer. Though tribulations may arise, they do not have the final say. Christ’s victory guarantees our victory.

YOUR SORROW SHALL BE TURNED INTO JOY

YOUR SORROW SHALL BE TURNED INTO JOY

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: John 16:16-24

Key Verse: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.” (John 16:20)

Supporting Texts: Psalm 30:5; Isaiah 61:3; Romans 8:18; 1 Peter 1:6-8

Description: This message reveals God’s power to transform sorrow into lasting joy through Christ.

INTRODUCTION

In John 16:20, Jesus spoke to His disciples about a coming season of sorrow. He knew that His death would bring grief and confusion to them, while the world would rejoice. However, He also assured them that their sorrow would not last forever, it would be turned into joy.

This promise was fulfilled in His resurrection. What seemed like defeat became victory, and what brought sorrow became the source of everlasting joy. Jesus used this moment to teach a deeper truth: God has the power to transform every sorrowful situation into a testimony of joy.

Believers today still experience seasons of sorrow: loss, disappointment, trials, and pain. Yet, the promise of Christ remains sure: sorrow is temporary, but joy is coming. God specialises in turning painful situations into testimonies of glory.

1. SORROW IS A REAL PART OF LIFE

Jesus acknowledged that His followers would experience sorrow.

a. Seasons of Weeping (Psalm 30:5)
Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

b. Trials and Afflictions (1 Peter 1:6)
Believers may go through various trials for a season.

c. The Reality of Pain (Ecclesiastes 3:4)
There is a time to weep and a time to laugh.

d. Temporary Nature of Suffering (2 Corinthians 4:17)
Afflictions are light and momentary compared to eternal glory.

e. Biblical Example:
Job experienced deep sorrow and loss, yet his story did not end in despair (Job 1:20-21).

2. GOD HAS THE POWER TO TURN SORROW INTO JOY

Jesus promised transformation, not just relief.

a. Divine Exchange (Isaiah 61:3)
God gives beauty for ashes and joy for mourning.

b. Restoration After Loss (Joel 2:25)
God restores what has been lost.

c. Joy That Follows Suffering (Romans 8:18)
Present sufferings are not worthy to be compared with future glory.

d. God’s Intervention Changes Situations (Psalm 126:1-2)
The Lord turns captivity into joy and laughter.

e. Biblical Example:
Joseph’s sorrow in slavery and prison was turned into joy when God elevated him (Genesis 41:41-43).

3. JOY COMES THROUGH CHRIST’S VICTORY

The disciples’ sorrow was turned into joy through the resurrection of Christ.

a. The Victory of the Resurrection (Matthew 28:6)
Jesus rose again, bringing hope and joy.

b. Joy in Salvation (Psalm 51:12)
The joy of salvation sustains believers.

c. Peace That Produces Joy (John 16:22)
Jesus promised that no one would take away their joy.

d. Rejoicing in the Lord (Philippians 4:4)
Believers are called to rejoice always.

e. Biblical Example:
The disciples were filled with joy after seeing the risen Christ (John 20:20).

4. BELIEVERS MUST HOLD ON TO FAITH IN DIFFICULT TIMES

Faith enables believers to endure sorrow until joy comes.

a. Trusting God’s Timing (Habakkuk 2:3)
God’s promises will come to pass at the appointed time.

b. Standing Firm in Faith (1 Corinthians 16:13)
Believers must remain steadfast.

c. Hope That Sustains (Romans 15:13)
God fills believers with hope and joy through faith.

d. Endurance Leads to Joy (James 1:2-3)
Trials produce patience and spiritual maturity.

e. Biblical Example:
Hannah endured years of sorrow before God answered her with the joy of a child (1 Samuel 1:10-20).

CONCLUSION

Jesus’ promise that sorrow shall be turned into joy is a powerful assurance for every believer. Though seasons of sorrow may come, they are not permanent. God has the power to transform every painful experience into a testimony of joy.

As believers trust in Christ and hold on to faith, they will experience divine turnaround. Joy is not just an emotion; it is the result of God’s intervention and the victory of Christ in every situation.
