AFFLICTION MUST DIE
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: Psalm 107:20-21
Key Verse: “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Let them praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men.” — Psalm 107:20-21 (KJV)

Description:
God’s redemptive purpose is to destroy affliction; through the Word, the Spirit and the power of the cross every form of suffering must bow and die.
INTRODUCTION:
Affliction is an assault, it comes as sickness, sorrow, delay, oppression or persistent setbacks intended to degrade destiny and steal joy. Yet the Bible is profoundly clear: affliction is not the final word for the child of God. Our God specialises in breaking every rod of the oppressor and converting seasons of trial into platforms for testimony. This sermon insists, with biblical confidence, that affliction must die.
Affliction often appears convincing because it presses hard, lingers long and affects many areas of life simultaneously. It tests faith, exposes hidden fears, and tempts the heart to settle for less than God’s best. But the very intensity of affliction becomes the theatre in which God displays His glory when we refuse to yield and call upon Him in faith.
This message is a summons to a militant hope: to deploy God’s weapons: the Word, prayer, praise, covenant truth and the blood of Jesus until every chain of affliction is broken. Expect practical strategies and sharp spiritual clarity; God intends not merely relief but total, irreversible deliverance that results in praise.
1. AFFLICTION DIES WHEN THE WORD IS SPOKEN WITH AUTHORITY
The Word of God is not a sentimental text; it is creative, sovereign and surgical, it cuts through the root causes of suffering and pronounces life. When the believer speaks Scripture in faith, heaven answers and affliction begins to unravel.
a) The Word is the instrument of healing — Psalm 107:20
The same Scripture that created the world issues forth power to heal and to deliver; speaking it aloud activates heaven’s response.
b) The Word exposes root causes — Hebrews 4:12
God’s Word discerns the thoughts and intents of the heart and brings to light hidden iniquities or agreements that sustain affliction.
c) The Word displaces tormenting words — Matthew 4:4
Jesus overcame the tempter by quoting Scripture; the spoken Word cancels the enemy’s assertions against your life.
d) The Word establishes God’s promise in place of pain — Romans 4:20-21
Faith holds fast to the Word even when the body or circumstances disagree, until redemption manifests.
Biblical Example: Jesus spoke to the fever in Peter’s mother-in-law and it left instantly; His word released health where sickness had reigned (Matthew 8:14-15).
2. AFFLICTION DIES WHEN THE BLOOD OF JESUS IS APPLIED
The atonement secured by Christ is not merely theological; it is practical and effectual. The blood speaks, cleanses and severs legal rights that the enemy claims over families, bodies and destinies.
a) The blood wipes out guilt and opens the door to healing — 1 John 1:7
By the blood we are cleansed; a cleansed conscience and life attract restoration rather than judgment.
b) The blood cancels legal ground for affliction — Colossians 2:14
Where a legal charge has been levied against a life, the cross has already erased the signature of condemnation.
c) The blood releases angelic ministry — Hebrews 1:7; Psalm 91:11
The enforcement of divine protection is often linked to covenant claims, and the blood secures that claim.
d) The blood secures continuous deliverance — Revelation 12:11
Believers overcome by the blood and the testimony; the blood is the believer’s testimony against affliction.
Biblical Example: The Passover was a literal demonstration: blood on the doorposts prevented the destroyer from entering the homes of Israel (Exodus 12:13).
3. AFFLICTION DIES WHEN THE SPIRIT OPERATES IN HOLINESS AND POWER
The Holy Spirit is the executor of Jesus’ ministry on earth; He anoints for healing, breaks yokes and empowers the Church to enforce heaven’s decrees.
a) The Spirit brings immediate, sovereign change — Acts 10:38
Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit to heal the oppressed; that anointing continues through His Body.
b) The Spirit convicts and repositions the heart — John 16:8-11
Spiritual darkness that sustains affliction is expelled when the Spirit brings conviction and renewal.
c) The Spirit gifts for practical ministry of deliverance — 1 Corinthians 12:9, 10
Gifts such as healing, discernment and miracles are deliberate means by which the Spirit dismantles affliction.
d) The Spirit produces perseverance and testimony — Romans 8:26-27
Even when we lack words, the Spirit intercedes; affliction’s grip loosens as heaven prays through the believer.
Biblical Example: At Pentecost the release of the Spirit birthed bold miracles and transformed communities formerly under various oppressions (Acts 2:1-4; Acts 4:31-33).
4. AFFLICTION DIES WHEN THE CHURCH ENGAGES IN UNITED, STRATEGIC INTERCESSION
Individual prayer is vital but corporate warfare multiplies authority: unified intercession aligns the Church with God’s will and breaks entrenched strongholds.
a) Unity intensifies heaven’s response — Acts 1:14; Acts 2:1
The early Church’s unified posture created an atmosphere for breakthrough and deliverance.
b) Persistent corporate prayer overturns national afflictions — 2 Chronicles 7:14
When God’s people collectively repent and pray, God responds with restoration to the land and people.
c) Prophetic intercession targets territorial powers — Daniel 9:20-23
Strategic, informed prayer engages with angelic dynamics to release territorial healing.
d) Agreement in prayer releases miraculous outcomes — Matthew 18:19-20
The authority of two or three agreeing in faith is a spiritual force that the enemy cannot withstand.
Biblical Example: Elisha’s prophetic word to Samaria broke a famine and delivered the city in a single night; a God-ordained corporate turnaround (2 Kings 7:1-17).
5. AFFLICTION DIES WHEN PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING ARE USED AS WEAPONS
Praise is not mere sentiment; it is a spiritual weapon that changes atmosphere, intimidates the enemy and invites God’s manifest presence to overthrow affliction.
a) Praise provokes God’s intervention — 2 Chronicles 20:21-22
Jehoshaphat’s worship positioned the army for victory as God caused their enemies to self-destruct.
b) Praise breaks spiritual stalemates — Acts 16:25-26
Paul and Silas’ midnight praise triggered an earthquake that opened prison doors and loosed chains.
c) Praise displaces heaviness and ushers light — Psalm 22:3
God inhabits the praises of His people; His presence dissolves the atmosphere of affliction.
d) Praise sustains faith until deliverance arrives — Habakkuk 3:17-19
Even in the lack, worship secures the soul and prepares for supernatural reversal.
Biblical Example: The walls of Jericho fell after days of corporate praise and obedience; affliction in the form of an impenetrable barrier was removed by worship (Joshua 6:20).
CONCLUSION:
Affliction is temporary because the purposes of God are permanent. The God who raised Jesus from the dead, whose Word created the heavens and the earth, and whose Spirit quickens the believer, forbids affliction to have the final say. Through the Word, through the blood, through the Spirit, and through concerted corporate action, affliction must die.
Beloved, do not negotiate with suffering as if it were invincible. Arm yourself with Scripture, apply the blood, invite the Spirit, engage with others in intercession and worship, and refuse to bow to despair. Your testimony will be the accusative evidence that affliction was defeated by a faithful God.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, thank You that affliction has no legal right to remain in my life.
2. Father, by Your Word, command every sickness and sorrow to leave now.
3. O Lord, apply the blood of Jesus over every area of my home and destiny.

5. Lord, strengthen the Church to wage united spiritual warfare for deliverance.
