INTRODUCTION
Faith is one of the most powerful forces in the life of a believer. It is the channel through which we access God’s promises and experience His power. However, not all faith is passive—there is a kind of faith that is bold, persistent, and unwilling to be denied. This is the faith that produces extraordinary miracles.
In Luke 5:17-26, we see a remarkable demonstration of such faith. A group of men, determined to see their paralysed friend healed, refused to be hindered by the crowd. Instead, they broke through the roof and lowered him before Jesus. Their actions showed a level of faith that went beyond words; it was practical, determined, and unstoppable.
This passage teaches us that when faith is combined with determination, it can overcome any obstacle. True faith does not give up easily; it presses through barriers until it receives what God has promised.
1. TRUE FAITH IS DETERMINED AND PERSISTENT
Genuine faith does not give up in the face of obstacles.
a) Refusing to Be Discouraged (Luke 5:19)
The men could not enter because of the crowd, yet they refused to turn back. Determined faith finds another way.
b) Pressing Beyond Barriers (Hebrews 10:36)
Patience and endurance are required to obtain God’s promises.
c) Faith That Acts (James 2:17)
Faith without works is dead. Their faith was demonstrated through action.
d) Expectation of Results (Hebrews 11:1)
Faith is the substance of things hoped for. They believed something would happen.
Biblical Example: The woman with the issue of blood pressed through the crowd to touch Jesus and was healed (Mark 5:25-34).
2. FAITH OVERCOMES OBSTACLES
Every genuine act of faith will face opposition, but faith breaks through limitations.
a) The Crowd Could Not Stop Them (Luke 5:19)
Obstacles are inevitable, but they are not insurmountable.
b) Creative Faith Finds Solutions (Luke 5:19)
They opened the roof and made a way. Faith is innovative and solution-driven.
c) Obstacles Test Your Resolve (1 Peter 1:7)
Trials refine faith and make it stronger.
d) God Makes a Way (Isaiah 43:19)
Where there seems to be no way, God creates one.
Biblical Example: Bartimaeus cried out persistently despite opposition and received his sight (Mark 10:46-52).
3. CORPORATE FAITH CAN PRODUCE MIRACLES
Faith is not only personal; it can be strengthened through collective agreement.
a) “When He Saw Their Faith” (Luke 5:20)
Jesus responded to the combined faith of the group.
b) Power of Agreement (Matthew 18:19)
When two or more agree, God responds.
c) Supporting One Another (Galatians 6:2)
Bearing one another’s burdens strengthens faith.
d) Encouragement in Faith (Hebrews 10:24-25)
Fellowship builds and sustains faith.
Biblical Example: The early church prayed together for Peter, leading to his miraculous release from prison (Acts 12:5-11).
4. FAITH ATTRACTS DIVINE INTERVENTION AND TRANSFORMATION
When faith is exercised, God responds with power and transformation.
a) Forgiveness and Healing (Luke 5:20, 24)
Jesus forgave the man’s sins and healed him. Faith brings total restoration.
b) Immediate Results (Luke 5:25)
The man rose up immediately, showing the power of divine intervention.
c) Public Testimony (Luke 5:26)
The miracle caused amazement and glorified God.
d) A New Beginning (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Faith leads to transformation and a new life.
Biblical Example: Jairus’ faith resulted in the resurrection of his daughter, demonstrating God’s power over impossibilities (Luke 8:41-56).
CONCLUSION
Faith that breaks roofs is not ordinary faith: it is bold, persistent, and action-driven. It refuses to be limited by circumstances and presses through every barrier to reach Jesus. This kind of faith attracts divine attention and produces undeniable miracles.
As you walk with God, develop a faith that does not give up. Be determined, be persistent, and be willing to act. When your faith is active and unwavering, no obstacle will be able to stop your miracle.
